Hot Under the Collar ~ Roxanne St Claire ~ New Release

We are thrilled to be bringing you the release of HOT UNDER THE COLLAR, the first book in New York Times bestselling author Roxanne St. Claire's new Dogmothers series. Between the hot firefighter and the adorable dog sidekick, you can't go wrong with this new romance. Be sure to grab your copy today!

About HOT UNDER THE COLLAR

Firefighter Braden Mahoney is devastated when his beloved Weimaraner, Jelly Bean, fails the canine arson investigator test. Faced with the challenge of raising the money for advanced training, it’s Braden’s sweet grandmother and her best friend who suggest he use the services of the new event planner in town. Not that he needs a push in Cassie Santorini’s direction. Ever since she arrived, Braden has had his eye on the sassy Greek goddess…and can’t stop thinking about getting the rest of him on her, too.
Cassie has spent years putting family first, even moving to Bitter Bark when her mother falls in love with the local veterinarian. Having a huge new extended “family” is fun, especially when one smokeshow of a firefighter attends the gatherings, but Cassie has no plans to remain in this small town. She’s ready to pursue her big city dreams. But when Braden asks for an assist for his precious pup, Cassie agrees to help him set up a town-wide scavenger hunt. It isn’t exactly a hardship to be around those blue eyes and brawny shoulders, especially since they both agree everything – even the undeniable sparks that crackle between them – is temporary.
But when temporary gets complicated by feelings that might lead to forever, Braden and Cassie start to question the direction they're headed. Should they follow their dreams…or their hearts? It’ll take a dog with a bad nose and a sweet soul, two particularly meddlesome grandmas, and some help from the clan that loves them to make sure Cassie and Braden follow the clues and find their way to each other’s arms.

3.5 Stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Author

This is my first Ava Harrison book and I’m still trying to decide what I really think.
I liked Deceit, but I struggled a little bit with our female lead, Addison. I wonder if some of my struggle with her is because of not having the full back story of who she is and why she’s important to the author.

Olly, our main male character is another character that while I liked him, I didn’t fully connect with. Some of his actions in the second half of the story felt repetitive and didn’t necessarily advance his cause.

In terms of plot and conflict I’m, well, conflicted. Part of this comes from my struggle with Addison and Olly as characters. Deceit is well written and I did enjoy it. It definitely has me curious about the author’s back list.

TBR READS

Marry Me for Money (Forever After, #1)Marry Me for Money by Mia Kayla

3.5 Stars - Worth a Readers's Time

It’s always interesting going back to read a debut novel after finding an author when they are several books down the road.

Marry me for Money has been lingering on my TBR for ages and I enjoyed finally getting to read it.

Bethany was a character that I liked getting to know, but some of the situations she found herself in were a bit far fetched. Her interactions with Brian and Kent were intriguing and I would have appreciated seeing things from their point of view as well.

Overall, this was an entertaining debut novel and I am curious about the books that follow in the series.

Amazon

Checkmate Duet Series, #2: Drew & CourtneyCheckmate Duet Series, #2: Drew & Courtney by Kennedy Fox

My rating: 3 of 5 stars - Average Read

Okay - this is a perfect example of why I dislike the duet concept. The need to fill two books took an interesting concept and turned it into something over done and frankly a little boring towards the end.

I liked Drew and Courtney and liked the set up for their story. Friends/roommates who gradually realize there is more to to their relationship. Add a crazy ex and a dangerous job for some drama, siblings and friends for a good secondary cast and you have the makings of one good book.
When stretched to two books, we ended up with a lot of filler that just left me flat. The sexy time even got old, especially once it started getting a little too creative.

I also struggled with the fact that several plot points were introduced, but never fully resolved. Combined with the heavy continuation of Travis/Viola’s story and the lead in to the next books and this was just too much.

There is so much potential here, I wish the authors behind the pen name would stop writing duets and focus on telling the story without the extras.

Baby Yours: Hunter & Lennon, #2 by Kennedy Fox ~ New Release and Review

The worst day of my life happened when Brandon died.
We had our entire future mapped out.
Careers, marriage, kids—in that order.
Then the universe threw a curveball and ended it all.

As I come to terms with everything, I learn I’m carrying his baby. Now I’m living with his roommate, the guy who’s made my life a living hell the past two years. Hunter’s now the one to hold me up when all I want to do is fall.

Knowing my religious parents will never accept the pregnancy out of wedlock, Hunter offers to be my fake husband. While I think he’s gone crazy, it’s the only plan that’ll keep them in my life. So I do whatever it takes to make our relationship believable—kissing, touching, even letting him hold me when we sleep. The lines are so blurred neither of us want to admit we’re no longer pretending.

The guilt of what we’re doing eats me alive as I struggle to deal with my emotions. I push him away, but he pulls me closer, showing me how he’s always felt.

Just as I begin to follow my heart, I learn Hunter’s been keeping secrets.
And I’m left to make the hardest decision of my life…

**This is book 2 in the Hunter & Lennon duet and must be read after Baby Mine. Recommended for ages 18+**

I saw her first.
Blonde. Gorgeous. Feisty.
I was smitten.

But it didn’t matter because she chose him and he was my best friend and roommate. I’d never be able to compete with that, so I pushed her away instead. It was easy when she lived hours away, and I didn’t have to see her every day, but then she moved in with us.
Now, I’m screwed.

To her singing in the shower every morning, dancing in the kitchen while she makes coffee, and doing yoga in our living room, I can’t stop thinking about her in all the wrong ways. She’s not mine and never will be, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to push her against a wall and claim her mouth.

She’s constantly on me for making messes, bringing chicks home every weekend, and being a smartass when their PDA gets on my nerves. Considering neither of them know how I feel, it’s not fair for the way I act toward them. I should move out so I can get over her for good; however, the selfish part of me can’t let go.

But then the unthinkable happens...
When my best friend dies in a motorcycle accident, the two of us are left to grieve our loss together. Instead of pushing her away, I pull her closer.

Just as we come to terms with our new reality, she finds out she’s pregnant with his baby.
And I’m left to make the hardest decision of my life...

Elizabeth's Review

My rating: 3 of 5 stars - Average Read

Review Copy provided by Author

Okay - I feel a little bad labeling Baby Yours “average” because in its own, it’s a decent read. The less than awesome rating come from the fact that this is another example of two books that really had no business being a duet.

The overall story arc of Baby Mine and Baby Yours is interesting and a good concept, and really, of the two books Baby Yours was actually more interesting. But I feel like in the effort to make this story two books, we got bogged down in details that weren’t needed.

I don’t want to give anything away, so I won’t highlight the places where I felt we had extra, but I will say that the heavy prepping for the next set of books left this one feeling unfinished to me.
I really wish the authors would consider making a slightly longer book to tell the story vs dragging things out over two books. This is purely personal opinion, but I do think the story telling would be stronger if they could focus on key plot points vs filler.

Defelcted~Jami Davenport ~ New Release and Review

It's dislike at first sight... Deflected by Jami Davenport is available now!

Alexander “Rush” Markov has been given an ultimatum by his team—shape up or ship out. Alex is celebrating his biggest season in professional hockey, and he’s enjoying every minute of it—perhaps a little too much. He’s been non-stop partying like a rockstar since his team won it all, and management isn’t pleased. Next thing Alex knows, he’s been exiled to a remote island with orders to lay low, stay out of trouble, and avoid one-night stands. Rosalind Newcomb is the quintessential good girl, and she’s fine with her role. Sure, she gets lonely and wishes for a special someone, but the choices on Madrona island are slim to none. When a panty-melting mystery man disrupts the peace and quiet in her bookstore, it’s dislike at first sight. The infuriating man turns her ordered life upside down and inside out and has her thinking about hot summer nights and tangled sheets. Only Alex isn’t who she thinks he is, and love isn’t all hearts and roses. As Alex battles who he pretends to be and who he really is, he also resists falling in love for the first time in his life. His intense feelings have him ready to bolt, and only he can decide if love is worth fighting for.

This is a sweet romance featuring a hockey star needing to clean up his image. If you have followed Ms Davenport's work, you will see some familiar faces in this stand alone effort.

I really liked Alex and appreciated his emotional journey from hockey bad boy to someone who was ready to open his heart and explore a real relationship. Rosalind was a sweet, slightly feisty heroine that was also easy to like.

From a plot standpoint, Deflected is a quick read. This means that the story is entertaining, but is not a super deep dive into the issues impacting our characters. The skimming of the surface is the main thing that kept this from being a 4 star read for me.

Alex and Roz were entertaining, their relationship was sweet, and the Island/town was almost a third primary character. I found myself wanting more of their story!

Excerpt:
“Hollis?” I startle at the male voice calling my name. When I turn, I find a guy about my height wearing a button-down shirt beneath a sport coat and a pair of pressed slacks. He regards me with a mixture of surprise and recognition while I have no idea who the hell he is. He steps closer with a smile. “Sorry to catch you off guard,” he apologizes and holds out his hand to me. “Grant Stevenson.” I shake his hand warily. “Hollis Barnes.” I pause before adding, “But somehow, you already knew that.” He grins, and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t detect any douchebag vibes. “I recognized you from one of the photos Magnolia has in her room of the two of you.” It takes all my control to suppress the jolt that zigzags through me at his words. She still keeps a photo of us? His eyes crinkle at the corners, and he lifts his chin to gesture to me. “Although I have to be honest, the ink and beard initially threw me off.” A surprised laugh escapes me, and I slide my hands into my pockets. Grant steps closer and glances around before lowering his voice. “I’m actually glad you’re here. I know you and Magnolia haven’t seen one another in a while, but you’re her oldest friend…” Oldest friend. Not best friend. I don’t miss the phrasing. Although I don’t feel it’s intentional, it cuts deep just the same. “I’m nervous as hell, and I’m hopin’ you can tell me if she’d like this.” It takes me a moment to realize what he’s pulled out of his pocket. A velvet ring box and a packet of Pop Rocks. Fuck, fuck, fuck. I resist the urge to rub at the center of my chest, where searing pain radiates. He flicks open the box to reveal a ring with a large diamond that’s fancy as hell. Something Mrs. Barton would love and deem appropriate. But Magnolia? Hell no. “Her mom helped me pick it out.” Exactly. “And I know she loves Pop Rocks since she always has a pack.” Not the strawberry flavor. But he’s trying. I can see the nervousness in his expression. The hope. The excitement. I can’t crush this guy. He’s exactly what her parents have always wanted for her. The kind of guy who doesn’t get his hands dirty. The one with money and connections. The one who can give her the future her parents expect her to have. The one who won’t come home with rough hands, callused to hell and back from working on a project that’s for a high-end client or due to be auctioned off to a car collector with more money than they know what to do with. The man who wears button-downs like they’re second skin. Designer clothes. So caught up in my thoughts, I don’t immediately realize that he’s pocketed the items and is gazing in another direction. When I turn and follow his focus, catching sight of her weaving through the crowd, I take advantage of the moment and let my eyes drink her in. She’s…so goddamn beautiful. Her long blond hair spills down her back, and even beneath the shapeless graduation gown, her sleek, tanned legs peek out from the bottom hem, her heels accentuating her toned calf muscles. When she catches sight of Grant, her entire face lights up, and…goddammit. I can’t do this. This was a fucking mistake. It’s like someone’s performing open heart surgery and just cracked my chest open without anesthesia.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars - One of the Best

Review Copy Provided by Author

When I read the blurb for Choose Me it reminded me of a country song, “She wants to get married” and I was curious to see what approach Ms. Boldt would take to the story.

Choose Me introduces us to Hollis and Magnolia when they are 8 years old and become neighbors. The story that follows let’s us see them grow up and that friendship solidify even though everyone seems against them.

The slow build creates characters that are easy to like and root for to find their happily ever after. The whole story tugs on the heart strings from beginning to end. In addition to being a truly sweet and romantic story, there are a few unexpected twists that keep the reader on their toes (and from going into pure sugar overload)

Hollis and Magnolia go on journeys (both literal and emotional) to find where they are meant to be and what is truly important to them. The supporting cast is small, but all play a key role in influencing the direction our friends take. These influences are both positive and negative; they ring true to the small town Southern experience.

This is a unique story that is a true pleasure to read. We see true friendship, obstacles overcome, and the best kind of love.

“Whoa. Undeniable is one of my top reads! Sizzling chemistry, off the charts sexual tension and all the feels I’ve come to expect with a Melanie Harlow romance!”- Ilsa Madden-Mills, Wall Street Journal bestselling author

Undeniable, an all-new sexy standalone second chance romance from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is available now!

Undeniable AMAZON.jpg
When we were eleven, Oliver Ford Pemberton dared me to jump off a barn roof. He said you couldn’t break a leg from a 12-foot-jump.
He lied.
(You can also break a collarbone, which served him right as far as I was concerned.)
I wish I could say it was the last dare I ever took from him, the last bet I ever made with him, the last time I ever trusted Oliver Ford Pemberton.
But it wasn’t.
Because he had the nerve to grow up gorgeous, charming, and sexy. And as we got older, the dares only got dirtier—and the betting stakes higher—until finally, he left me in pieces. I swore I’d never talk to him again.
But twenty years after I took that flying leap, he’s back in my life, daring me to risk everything for him: my job, my self-worth, and my heart.
How many chances does true love deserve?

Excerpt:

Fueled by pent-up lust and scotch, we stumbled into Oliver’s room and tore at each other’s clothes. It was hot and rough and a little bit violent, as if we were furious we hadn’t been able to keep our hands to ourselves and wanted to take it out on one another’s bodies. We pushed and pulled and growled and grasped. We called each other names and cursed viciously. We knocked over a lamp and ripped Oliver’s shirt. When we finally exploded together, Oliver had me up against the door, and if our yelling didn’t wake the entire floor, then the pounding must have. I’d have bruises for days. Afterward, we collapsed on the bed, naked and sweaty and exhausted. “Oh my God,” I said. “I can’t believe we did that.” “I know. Me either.” “I think I pulled a muscle.” “I think you bit me. Am I bleeding?” I laughed. “No, but I hope you’re not seeing anyone. If you are, she’s going to wonder about all those scratches on your back.” “I’m not seeing anyone.” He paused. “Are you?” “No.” Neither of us moved for several minutes. When I caught myself falling asleep, I sat up. “I should go.” “Why? Just stay here.” I looked down at him. “You want me to stay?” “Yeah.” He opened his eyes. In the low light, they almost looked black instead of blue. “Spend the night with me.” I waited for it—the dirty joke, the excuse, the subtle dig—the reason he’d toss out for asking me to stay. It couldn’t just be that he wanted me here. But he didn’t say anything more. He just reached out and covered my hand with his. I looked at our hands for a moment, and a thousand memories came rushing back. Some good, some bad, but all us. I felt close to him, and I didn’t want to leave. “Okay. I’ll stay.” “Good.” He took off his watch and put it on the nightstand.

Elizabeth's Review

3.5 Stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review copy provided by author

Undeniable is the second book in the Cloverleigh Farms series and focuses on the next to youngest Sawyer sister, Chloe. We met Chloe briefly in the first book of the series, but get to know her better here along with her love interest, Oliver.

I enjoyed Undeniable and appreciated the emotional fire/frying pan moments that Oliver experienced, but I don't know that it is the strongest book I have read from Ms. Harlow. I know that comment makes it sound like there is something wrong with the book, but there isn't.

Chloe, Oliver, and their back story are interesting and made me what to know more. I think where I struggled a little bit is that the past is almost a third main character. We spend time with Chloe and Oliver at various ages in the past where they have had close calls emotionally/romantically and the aftermath leading them to where they are now. That back story is important to the modern day characters, but it keeps us from getting to know them and their current motivations as well as I would have liked.

As much as I enjoyed Chloe and Oliver's story, I really wanted to know them better. As always, this was very well written and had a strong element of family relationships and humor. I am hoping to see more of Oliver and Chloe in future Cloverleigh stories.

About the Author: Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She’s never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she’d probably choose the west coast. Kat’s a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max). When she’s not writing, she’s either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach. Kat has been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article–a review of a rock concert–for $10 in 1985. Since then she’s been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles. As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There’s something enticing about hockey players and romance…

Choose Me by R.C. Boldt ~ New Release and Review

release blitz banner-2.jpg
Choose Me, an all-new standalone coming-of-age romance
by RC Boldt is LIVE!
Choose Me, RC Boldt cover 1.jpg
Wearing the nicest suit I own, I stand in the very back with a flask full of whiskey in my inner pocket. I put on a brave face as I watch her walk down the aisle.
Because it’s too late.
I refuse to be the bastard who makes her cry on her wedding day, but I’m dying to tell her what I’ve always known. She’s my best friend, but she doesn’t realize she owns my f*cking heart and soul, too.
Each step down that aisle takes her farther away from me and brings her closer to him, forcing me to face the truth: I’ve fallen in love with someone who can’t be mine. If she’d just turn around, maybe she’d realize I love her more than he ever could.
I won’t ruin her perfect day, but my broken heart begs me to try and convince her.
Choose me.
