Blocked by L.P. Dover ~ New Release and Review

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t rest until I score.

Blocked returns us to the Charlotte Strikers where we get to spend time with Dallas Easton, the Goalie, and his love interest, Callie. Dallas is a character that is one you almost love to hate when you first meet him, but he eventually grew on me. Callie was easy to like from the beginning.

I enjoyed watching the dynamic between these two change as they began to get to know each other and Dallas had to work to get Callie’s attention. The conflict was realistic based on Dallas’ history and I appreciated how it played out.

Blocked has a large secondary cast. Some are key to Dallas and Callie getting things figured out, others are present more to build the background for future books in the series.
As the second book in the series, this does stand alone fairly well. It gives readers a chance to catch up a little bit with characters from book one, but you can easily start the series here

Crank ~ Adriana Locke ~ Cover Reveal

Title: Crank
Series: The Gibson Boys #1
Author: Adriana Locke
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Design: Kari March
Release Date: November 10, 2017

Blurb

This is one mistake Sienna Landry can’t buy her way out of.

As Walker Gibson looks at her, then at the damage to his precious truck (that she may or may not have accidentally inflicted), she knows she’s in trouble. It’s not the busted headlight and dented grill that’s sunk her though. It’s the downright sinful man in front of her that’s the problem.

The small town mechanic is broody. Rough. Smells like engine grease and gasoline and Sienna isn’t sure why that’s so sexy, but it is. It so is. She’s ready to peel off her panties at the drop of his wrench.

He wants her too. She can feel it when he brushes against her. Experience it as he presses her against the wall of the shop. It’s thinly veiled in his deep, brown eyes when he looks at her like she’s everything he’s ever wanted. So why won’t he give in?

The damage to Walker’s truck is the first of many mistakes between the two of them, ending with truths that rock Sienna’s world. Nothing can fix her broken heart except the love of a man that won’t, maybe even can’t, love her back.

Crank is a standalone romance in a new small town, blue-collar series from USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke. Join readers everywhere as they fall in love with the delicious Gibson Boys.

REVIEWS!

It's been an awesome reading week - so here we are getting caught up on reviews!

  SACREDSACRED by S.L. Scott

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

Review Copy provided by author

Wow!
After meeting Cruise in the Savage and Savior books, I had a feeling his story would be interesting, but I never imagined I would genuinely like him as much as I did!
Sacred let us get to know the man behind the friend we’ve seen in the prior books and we start to understand that what we’ve seen to date is more of a shell he uses to protect himself than anything else.
Ms Scott has created characters that are easy to like and easy to become invested in - I was supposed to be getting ready for company and instead was sneaking chapters because I JUST had to know what came next.
Cruise and Clara and fabulous together and I loved their journey, even if it wasn’t a smooth one.
This is technically a standalone, but it works much better if you have read Savage and Savior and have the back story- the need to have read the other books to fully appreciate Cruise is the only reason this is not a 4.5 to 5 star book.

Wicked Envy (The Wicked Horse Vegas, #3)Wicked Envy by Sawyer Bennett

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

Review Copy Provided by Author

This is a slightly different take on the Wicked Horse Vegas Books, in that the couple doesn’t meet at the club, but it is still very much a Wicked Horse Book.
Dane and Avril (and Andrew) have been friends since college. A bad breakup leads Avril to visit the club and that changes everything for these three.
All of the characters are easy to like and root for them to find a happy ending. Their relationship is well written and Ms Bennett does an excellent job with their dynamic.
It’s was interesting to read a Wicked Horse book were friendship played as large or larger part than tha the physical relationship.
A complete standalone, this is an excellent addition to the series and leaves you hoping for more.

This was a cute, fun read.
Matt and Kelsey are characters that first appeared in Bossed, but come into their own here. Their relationship centers around the physical, but there are several touching emotional moments as well.
The author’s style seems to allude to the relationship building vs letting the reader see it, but it works for these characters.
My only complaint comes toward the end of the book. There is a conversation between Matt and Kelsey that alludes to her feelings about something, but the issue had never been addressed earlier in the book. It worked for the conclusion of the story, but seemed a little awkward at the time.
Overall, this was an entertaining read and a perfect escape story.

EXCERPT

Holy shit.
I see pink.
Bubblegum pink.
Curvy ass under a fitted skirt. Tight as fucking—good God almighty. Like a flame, I’m drawn to her. I stand, not even sure why, but I’m moving before I can stop myself following a bubblegum pink skirt that just so happens to be attached to a killer little body and a head of brown hair that flows to the middle of her back.
“Hey?” What the fuck? Why’d I yell that?
Damn. I stumble. She reaches as if she’s going to catch me before I fall. I’m falling all right, but not to the ground. I stop, standing tall and straightening my shoulders. Real smooth. I actually fucking stumble when she looks back and our eyes meet.
A halo of yellow sunshine surrounds her, an angel sent from the heavens to save me. The beauty asks, “Are you all right?”
“Me?”
A smile that rivals the heavens appears. “Yes, you.”
“I’m good, so great.”
That pretty smile grows, and a sweet giggle follows. “I’m glad.” The longer we hold eye contact, the more her composure falters, an unease entering her pretty hazels. “Okay, I should go then.”
“No.”
“No?”
“No. Stay.”
“Stay?” she asks in the same confused tone as the last question.
“Yes.” Stepping closer, I hold out my hand. “I’m Cruise. What’s your name?”
Her hand slips into mine and I’m tempted to not just shake it, but never let it go. “Nice to meet you, Cruise. If you’ll excuse me—”
That’s when I notice the books held to her chest with her other hand. “Are you a student?”
“No.” Her reply comes fast with a look of horror filling wide eyes. “I’m not. Are you?”
“No.”
The relief between us is palpable as our sighs fill the space. Her eyes glance down to our adjoined hands, my hold on her still just as firm. “May I have my hand back, Cruise?”
“Yes,” I reply, then reluctantly release her.
“I’m late for an appointment.”
I don’t want her to go. I like looking at her. I like talking to her and I really like holding her hand. She has fine features, but I can’t stop staring at her cherry-kissed lips. She turns to walk away too soon, so I call out, “Hey, I never got your name.”
“Maybe I’ll see you around.”
She’s not showy when she saunters off, but I watch rapt by every sweet sway of her hips. I find myself tugging at the collar of my shirt, that all-wrong-itchy feeling returning.
Fuck it.
I run after her.
Sidling up beside her, I keep her pace, and ask, “Why won’t you tell me your name?”
“Because you don’t need to know it.”
“I want to know it.”
She stops, and looks at me. “Just because you want it, doesn’t mean I owe it to you.”
Feisty. Getting a woman’s name isn’t usually a problem for me, but I respect her argument too much to counter with one of my own. “You’re right. Absolutely right.” This time I notice how the white sweater hugs the front of her body. Damn. I invade her personal space, captivated by her defiance. “I’ve been rude. My apologies.”
“I don’t need an apology, but I do need to go. I’m running late.” She takes a few steps away from me, but says, “Have a good life.”
My hands rise in the air, exasperated with this outcome. “You’re really not going to tell me?”
Her laughter splinters the air. “Unfortunately no. I can tell you’re the kind of trouble I should definitely walk away from. Name intact.” Quick stepping with determination, I watch as she crosses the parking lot.

This was a fun and unique story.
Sienna has turned her bad dating history into an unorthodox, but successful business when she starts getting emails from someone who obviously knows her, but won’t reveal himself.
It was neat to watch these two get to know each other with the physical not being a part of it. I loved how the reveal happened and appreciated Sienna’s very honest reaction to being blindsided by just how close her texting buddy was.
The supporting cast was small, but they really did help get these two where they needed to be and they also gave Sienna and Ryan chances to show their true selves. I hope Carmen and Coop have a book sometime soon!
This book had a great premise, interesting characters, and a fast pace that kept me hooked!

Prologue

"We're hit! We're hit!" Navy pilot Ryder Westbrook heard the panicked words of his copilot, Michael Valdez, but he was too busy trying to regain control of the SH-60 Seahawk helicopter to reply. They were coming back from a humanitarian mission—having dropped food, water and medical supplies into the rugged and remote villages of Afghanistan—when they'd taken enemy fire. They weren't going to make it back to the carrier in the Persian Gulf. They were going to have to set down somewhere, hopefully far from the rebel forces that had just shot at them. His heart pounded against his chest, but he remained calm, his training playing through his head as he went through every option to retain control of the twin-engine helicopter. Flying was in his blood. The helo had always felt like an extension of his own power, but now that power was crumbling, and he was being forcibly reminded of just how fragile life could be. But he couldn't quit. There had to be a way out. Unfortunately, his optimism was dampened by the fact that the ground was getting closer by the second, and his crew was depending on him to get them down safely. His copilot had a wife and a baby back in the States. Colin Forbes, the sensor operator, was getting married in a month. And he…well, he still had things he wanted to do. He had to keep them all alive. Searching the ground for a viable landing site, he spotted what appeared to be a flat, open rural area. Not only did he want to protect his crew, he didn't want to hurt anyone on the ground. Glancing over at Michael, he saw his friend making the sign of the cross. "We're not going to die," he said emphatically, drawing Michael's gaze to his. "Not today. Not this time." He could see the hope in Michael's eyes. His friend wanted to believe him. Hell, he wanted to believe himself. He'd been in tight spots before, and he'd always come out on top. It had been that way his entire life. Growing up in Eagle's Ridge, he'd been the golden boy—the one who set new records, who made things happen, who achieved whatever he went after. But this was real life. This was happening now, and he was the only one who could save all their lives. In ten years of naval service, he'd never encountered a situation exactly like this. He'd never felt so worried that his number might really be up. He shook the negative thought out of his head, squaring his jaw, tightening his hand on the controls, as he rode the bird down to the ground. The impact was harder than he'd expected, the helicopter shattering into pieces of fiery metal. And when everything went black, he fought against the idea that this might be it. He had more he wanted to do, people he should have made peace with a long time ago, a home that beckoned to him—the Blue Mountains, the Snake River, the people of Eagle's Ridge—a life still to be lived. He needed more time… He just didn't know if he was going to get it.

Review Copy provided by Author

This was such a fun read!
Bailey and Ryder each return to their home town of Eagle Springs for different reasons, but once they are there they find themselves connecting in unexpected ways.
This is a short book, so there isn't a ton of world or character building, but there is just enough to embrace and enjoy the experience. Both of the main characters are likeable and easy to root for. The secondary cast isn't huge, but they are all impactful to the story. This is part of a "world" environment, where several authors are writing the whole series, so we see the beginnings of the leading men for future works.
Short and sweet, I enjoyed getting to visit with Bailey and Ryder. I think it speaks to the author's skill to pull off such a complete story. I am looking forward to getting to know the other soldiers in the series.

About the Author

USA Today Best Seller, Nana Malone's love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she "borrowed" from her cousin. It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters. While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

This is a cute "Siblings best friend" romance.
Emma is a young woman determined to spread her wings and get her Master's degree away from home. Zach is the wrong side of the tracks friend of her older brother's who has done very well for himself in the big city. Add in an unfufilled mutual crush and we have a fun story of two people trying to get it right.
I liked both Emma and Zach. She was a bit naive, but it fit her character and the life she'd led up to that point. Zach was a bit of a tortured soul, most of it self inflicted, but it actually made him more relatable. To see that he would care enough to take on guilt that wasn't his.
This wasn't a long book, but it was just right for the story being told. Emma and Zach's story is fairly simple, especially once he gets out of his own way. Well written, this was a perfect little escape read.

Cuffed ~ K. Bromberg ~ New Release and Review

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them. “I hate you. I never want to see you again.” Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again. Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it. What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?
*** I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves. That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up. Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story. I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

Could you reconnect with a friend who is intimately tied to the hardest time in your life? How do you move past that connection to forge a new relationship?

Ms Bromberg asks and answers these questions in Cuffed. Emerson and Grant were childhood friends when tragedy separated them at 8 years old. Fast forward 20 years and life brings them back together, but it isn’t easy for either of them.

I appreciated the fact that Ms. Bromberg didn’t brush the history or Emerson’s trauma under the rug. It was almost a 3rd main character to the story - as it should have been. The issues were out there to see, but were handled with grace and compassion.

Yes, this is a romance and follows the expected story arc of connection, deepening relationship, someone screws up, redemption, happy ending. But, Cuffed is also more than that. It’s a friendship story and a survivors story. We also get a glimpse of the ripple effects tragedy can have - and how true heros refuse to let it happen again.

Emerson is an atypical heroine, but I liked her and loved the back and forth she had with Grant and her friend Desi. Grant is an alpha hero with a heart of gold. Getting to meet him makes me look forward to his brother’s stories!

I would offer a word of caution as this might be a trigger book for some people as there are sensitive issues discussed. But, if you are looking for a dynamic, well written couple this would be a good place to start.

Book Blurb:

Sienna Mills knows her alpha males. They brood. They growl. They love the word “mine”. After spending her early twenties in and out of relationships with alphas, Sienna used her knowledge to found Alpha Mail, a booming business that allows women to sign up for emails, letters, and texts from their own brooding, red-blooded man. Her star is on the rise and Sienna is attracting the interest of investors when a mysterious man starts messaging her about the true nature of an alpha. She’s got it all wrong, he says, and he’s willing to show her how a real man makes women respond. The more Sienna hears from him, the more aggravated she becomes. Who does this anonymous, supposed alpha think he is, anyway? And yet…she can’t deny his messages are becoming the best part of her days. Commitment-phobic Sienna finds herself wanting more from her sensei of seduction. But is she willing to trust her heart to an alpha again?
