Synopsis: “Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.” — Dale Evans
A week before Christmas, Jeseca Reed sets off for Blue River, Oregon—her childhood home and a vault of tender memories. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when she’s left stranded in the mountains’ vast, untamed wilderness. Desperate and alone, she seeks shelter at a cottage and finds herself in the arms of a mysterious stranger. Dr. David Drake was once a renowned cardiovascular surgeon. But a devastating tragedy has left him scarred both inside and out, unable to use his hands to operate again. For the past five years, his Blue River cottage has been his sole escape—a safe haven where he can shut out the world, bury himself in his grief, and reunite with his son’s memory. Together they are summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet a poignant connection forms between them. Jeseca awakens David and thaws his heart with a romance hot enough to melt snow. But before David and Jeseca can fully embrace each other, they must wade through darkness and confront the ghosts of their pasts …
Equal parts steamy and heartfelt, A Kindled Winter brings the spirit of the holidays to life with a passionate story of second chances and healing love

EXCERPT
David’s enchanting voice swelled the darkness, surrounding Jeseca, gripping onto her senses with a thousand beckoning fingers. They held her captive—and she readily surrendered her freedom.

“We’re like day and night. Summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet something about you whispers my name and echoes inside me …” His mouth found her pulse point. Damp, hot lips nibbled on her skin and sent her wits reeling. “You should have never come in here. It was a mistake.”

“Then tell me to leave and I’ll go,” she replied through a breathy whisper. Her voice sounded thick with desire, hoarse … she hardly recognized it as her own. “And I don’t believe we’re complete opposites,” she said, her words husky and guttural. “I think the real you is hiding.”

Impenetrable silence took hold. Only the howling wind and David’s heavy breathing breached the quiet.

 “Should I leave?”

More silence. “No. I need you … I need you to stay with me.” The words emerged from the darkness and wrapped around Jeseca’s heart with the force of a lasso.

He plunged a hand beneath the bathrobe, which had fallen halfway open, and a jarring whoosh of air slammed against her skin. His tongue swirled along her collarbone, branding her flesh with slick, wet shapes. Her heart hammered, and she clutched at the bedsheet as his mouth ventured lower … lower … skirting across the V-line of her plush pajama top. Then his fingers were working the buttons, quickly undoing them and sweeping the soft material aside. Cold air tightened her naked breasts, causing gooseflesh to prickle her skin.

“Stop me if I’m going too fast,” he breathed against her.

Yes, she should stop him. This was wrong. Totally wrong. Instead, all rational thought melted away and she found herself arching against his mouth and tongue. She wanted more—not less. And she wanted him to go faster—not slower …

Elizabeth's Review

3 Stars - Average Read

Review Copy provided by author

A Kindled Winter is a novella length read that I really have to rate in two different pieces.

The story - 3.5 stars - worth a readers time.
I loved the story. Jeseca is hurt in a car accident during a storm and finds her way to David's isolated home. He takes her in and cares for her. A relationship develops while they wait for the weather to clear enough for her car to be repaired. They discover that they both have deep emotional wounds that connect them on a much deeper level than just physical attraction. I truly enjoyed watching the relationship develop and watching both characters work on their issues and begin to heal.

 Execution - 2.5 to 3 stars - below average/average read
This is really subjective, but the style in which parts of the story were told just didn't sit well with me. The biggest issues I hard were the times when Jeseca and David were having intimate or sexual moments. The level of detail used in these scenes was over the top for me and I found myself skimming through them. Overall for me, this is an average read. I enjoyed Jeseca and David and watching them find their way through their emotional issues to develop a new and lasting foundation.

ABOUT ANNABEL

Biography

Annabel Fanning is a British-born, Australian-based writer and full-time cat enthusiast. When she's not indulging in her love of writing, she likes to paint her nails, shop and wander off into nature — not necessarily in that order. She began writing songs as a child, the most memorable of which was entitled: "Tropical Night in Switzerland". Throughout her teens, songwriting was the most rebellious form of expression that she was willing to partake in (no tattoos, drugs, or biker boys) and her love for storytelling developed. There was just one problem: music wasn't her passion. A month before her 20th birthday whilst sitting under the Californian sun a few deck chairs down from Robert Pattinson, inspiration struck, and Annabel began writing her first novel. The years flew by and now at 26, Annabel has written a handful of novels, which she plans on releasing throughout 2015/16. She'd really like it if you read them.

Freya Nissan grew up knowing that she was different. A free spirit, an outsider, a maverick who sees beyond the confines of her human world. She’s the soulful, idle daydreamer of her sleepy English village, who no one believes will ever amount to much…until the day she does. Her visionary beliefs spark in her a passion to bring to life the dreams she has at night — dreams of journeying to other realms (entire worlds that exist alongside and even intertwine with the Earth we live on now). And as this story embarks, Freya disappears from her village in search of a discovery that will change her forever. Christian Delaney died a long time ago. From that day to this he has been waiting for a love that seems determined to elude him…until the day Freya appears. The inter-dimensional love story that unfolds between them proves to be as unique as it is troublesome, for not all are enchanted by Freya’s capabilities and for daring to be different she and Christian might just pay the ultimate price. This series debut from bestselling author Annabel Fanning delivers a thrilling and compelling tale of adventure, love, and believing in your dreams.

 Extract

“So, where am I?” I ask nervously, walking forward and hoping that this awkward feeling will disappear very soon. But before I can get an answer, I stumble over my own feet and fall forwards. He catches me in his arms without moving backwards. My hands are splayed on his chest. I remove my left one immediately, but the right one stays where it is. Over his heart. We stare at each other. There’s a moment’s silence, which feels like hours. Then understanding comes pouring into me. Oh my God! I look into his eyes, my own now flooded with a mixture of panic and accusation. He stares sadly back, obviously I’ve reacted the way he feared I would. I feel nothing under my hand. There is no heartbeat. “Am I dead?” I whisper. Images flash through my mind — my parents, Felix, my home…can this place really be where I am safest? He looks down, then back into my eyes. The back of his hand brushes softly over my bruised cheek, but I pull it away. This is no time for him to be seducing me. “Am I dead?” I ask again, a little more firmly. He gently takes my hand off of his chest and places it over my own heart. I feel its quickened pace and sigh in relief. “No, Freya, you’re not dead,” he says, seriously. “But I am.”

 ‎Story Time

This is The Portal Opener's brush with someone famous (Robert Pattinson). In 2008 I lived in LA, writing and recording music. I was staying in a huge apartment complex and when I first arrived I took the bus everywhere. I was just outside the complex coming back from the bus stop when an old beat-up black BMW coupe (I remember it because it was SO cool) drove past and I did a double take at the driver. Being a HUGE Harry Potter fan I immediately recognised Cedric Diggory was driving. I thought that was cool, then forgot all about it. In July(ish) I went to the cinema and one of the trailers before the film was this darkly-lit indie-looking thing which didn't make a very good first impression on me. Twas the trailer for Twilight. By mid-September I had began writing The Portal Opener. I was 19 and didn't have a fake ID, so had to spend every night in the small apartment I shared. And because I was cooped up all night, I spent everyday sitting on a lounger by the pool, in the beautiful Californian late-summer sun, my computer on my lap, writing, writing, writing. Everyday Mr. Edward Cullen himself showed up and sat by the pool too. This went on for about six weeks. Me writing, him reading scripts/books or doing I don't know what. Sometimes we were on opposite sides, sometimes right next to each other. Over those weeks, I saw his anonymity disappear. There used to be no one at the pool during the day, but quietly more and more girls appeared the closer Twilight came to being released. At the end of October, on the same day, I flew home to Perth and he started the press junket for Twilight. I finished writing The Portal Opener two weeks later. A month later still I was sat in the cinema watching Twilight, thinking...if only I'd said hello!

 SHE SERIES

 Descriptions

 PART 1

“LOVE and SEX at once, is a powerful combination.” Escape into Annabel Fanning’s feel-good bestselling erotic debut. She Part 1 is a contemporary and humorous look into the lives of two people who are on the precipice of true love. The novel uniquely crosses several genres, mixing first-grade erotica seamlessly with women’s lit and breathtaking romance. The story unfolds over sixteen thrilling and erotically-charged days, during which the reader is thrust into the heart of Paris, the novel’s backdrop, and into the daily lives of the construction world’s elite. Logan Leary is a reformed bad-boy who moved to the city of love fifteen years ago to start his life over. Now he owns one of Paris’s most successful companies and leads as seemingly charmed life. There’s just one thing missing: Gemima Samuels. Gemima Samuels moved to Paris with her down-on-his-luck boyfriend eight years ago. She coasted through life (in that annoying way we sometimes do) until her boyfriend cheated on her and life dealt her a wake up call. Choosing to start afresh, Gemima ends her relationship and quits her job before being hired by the most prestigious interior design firm in the city. A supposedly inconsequential lunch date turns out to be the start of something phenomenal that will change both of their lives forever. Set in picturesque Paris, She Part 1 is an erotic tale about falling madly in love. Combining sex, passion, and romance, these two high-flying professionals will leave you saying, “Oh, la la!”

 PART 2

“LOVE and SEX at once, is a powerful combination. LOVE and SEX in Paris, is better.” In this sequel Annabel continues to effortlessly marry several genres. From laugh-out-loud comedy to steaming erotica to heart pounding romance, She Part 2 has it all. Picking up where Part 1 left off, Gemima and Logan escape Paris for the weekend to indulge in all manner of pleasurable things on the French Riviera. Relaxation, sightseeing and sex — it’s a perfect combination! Once back in Paris, life hands out a few surprises, from troublesome ex-boyfriends, to changes at work, to a heartwarming best friends confession. But the lead up to Logan’s birthday brings one event that Gemima must conquer (and try her best not to say anything inappropriate which, you know, is hard for her!) She must meet Logan’s parents, and his bastard of a brother… Taking place over thirteen electric days, She Part 2 continues to explore love, sex and a relationship unlike any other you’ve ever read. This smart-talking duo will leave you saying, “Oh mon dieu!”

Part 1 is 115,000 words and Part 2 is 150,000 of "oh, la la" goodness. For readers 18+ over only. Contains explicit sexual content, a hero that will make your heart flutter, and a heroine who will make you laugh out loud. To experience the full scope of their relationship, this series is designed to be read in its entirety.

Tempting by Alex Lucien

His body climbing over mine.

My teeth biting his neck.

His scent on my skin.

My nails carving a path down his back.

His commands whispered in my ear.

All of my senses filled with him.

I knew it was bad. But I craved more.

It had begun innocently enough, bumping into one another in a crowded Boston bar. What followed that night had been anything but innocent.

Because I'd known, even as he'd slid inside of me, that he was my professor. I'd pursued him, a predator stalking its prey.

And he didn't know I was his student.

But he would.

As I sit to write this review, I still don't really know how I want to rate this book. I enjoyed the story, but didn't love it. Tempting is a story of a college student, Adele, who enters into a relationship with her professor, Nathan. For the first half of the book, I really didn't like Adele. She came across as manipulative and as the type of girl who was more interested in the chase of getting the unattainable man than someone looking to establish a relationship. As we got to know both Adele and Nathan better, I started to like them more. They both have certain emotional issues in common that make them a good fit for each other. Adele gradually revealed that she was much more than the sex kitten she portrayed herself to be initially. Nathan was a bit of a roller coaster ride, but I loved his grand gesture(s) when he drove Adele away the final time. I guess my complaint about Tempting is that I just didn't really see or feel the transition between two people who were sneaking around to have sex and two people developing a relationship. Most of the interactions between Nathan and Adele were sexual encounters and it would have been nice to have seen additional relationship building. I also had an issue with the appearance of Nathan's former brother-in-law. It seemed like his character didn't really have a purpose. I'm still not really sure where I want to put this book in terms of rating. I am curious to see where the series is going.

Pulled ~ AL Jackson

Melanie Winters and Daniel Montgomery shared a love most only dream of, a love they believed bonded them together for life. When their world is shattered by the tragic loss of their daughter, overwhelming grief and misguided guilt distorts the truth, and their relationship ends in uncertainty and unanswered questions. For nine years, they drift through life, each unable to forget the one who holds the strings to their heart. In an attempt to escape the pain of her past, Melanie finds herself trapped in a loveless marriage, while Daniel loses himself in a career that means nothing without Melanie by his side. Now, when their lives again intersect, neither can deny the connection they felt so long ago. But will the power that drew them together be enough to heal the wounds from their past, and will they have the courage to overcome the insecurities and fears that threaten to keep them apart? Pulled is a story of attraction and separation, of destiny and duty, of a love so strong it refuses to give up even when all others have. "Okay, this one did it for me in a big way. I'm an angst-lover. And by that I mean, I'm a Thoughtless, Beautiful Disaster, Love Unscripted, Slammed, Fifty Shades of Everything, kind of reader. But there's gotta be an HEA. And not a half-done HEA but a real yeah-this-story-has-been-agonizing-but-look-it-was-all-worth-it HEA. So, that said, I earnestly recommend this book. If you're like me, you'll like this. Enjoy!" Keep Me ~ Faith Andrews

Sexy, tatted up, underwear model Marcus Grayson is every girl’s dream—or more likely worst nightmare. He’s a player, a self-proclaimed bachelor for life, and he’s got no problem living up to his man-whore status. But when his older sister’s friend comes back from the past, he may just have the chance to turn some of his adolescent fantasies into reality.

Tessa Bradley is a self-sufficient, take-no-bull, single mother—well, now she is. Finally rid of her abusive, alcoholic ex, she’s making a new life for herself and catching up with old friends; the ones she was forced to break ties with because of her controlling husband. When she runs into Marcus, her friend Riley’s once-adorable turned smoking-hot little brother, she has no idea how he’s about to rock her world.

Elizabeth's Review

4 Stars ~ Would Recommend to a Friend

This is another win for the "Group Read" book. Faith Andrews has been an author on my TBR list for a while and a group read of Keep Me finally got me going and I am so glad I did.
At first I didn't think I would like the self proclaimed man-whore/model, Marcus. He went through women like most people go through Kleenex and wasn't at all picky as to whether or not they were already spoken for.
As much as I wasn't sure I could like Marcus, I loved Tessa almost as soon as she was introduced. And I liked these two together from the time they ran into each other in the coffee shop; there was a sense that they could be good for one another.
Ms. Andrews did an excellent job of showing us how Tessa and her son gentled Marcus and made him want to be a better person. I found myself liking the quiet times between them and seeing how they both grew both individually and as a couple.
My one complaint was Marcus' sister (and Tessa's friend), Riley. I got her desire to protect her friend, but really felt like she went over board in running her brother down.
Both Marcus' past behavior and Tessa's ex husband surfaced to cause problems for the couple, but it seems that the adversity just brought them closer together. Ms. Andrews crafted a story that was both sexy and romantic and I am curious to see if she was able to do the same thing for Riley in Keep Her.

The Highlander's Accidental Marriage ~ Callie Hutton ~ NEW RELEASE and REVIEW

This was a fun and entertaining read.
Sarah and Braeden have an unusual meeting when he comes to her rescue after a road side accident. Mishap after mishap lead to her making a statement that they were married, not understanding that was enough to make the marriage real.
We get to know both Sarah and Braeden during the journey to her sister's home and I have to admit that I liked both characters. I found Sarah to be unusual for a heroine of her time period in that she was much more progressive than expected. I really think my favorite part of the book was the journey. The interactions between Sarah and Braeden showed their fantastic personalities and led to some funny moments and some fraught with sexual tension.
Once they reached their destination, both of their personalities seemed to change and they lost some of their sparkle. I did love the ending, where both characters realized what was really important to them wasn't the dreams they had been pursuing, but the people in their lives. The Highlander's Accidental Marriage was definitely a fun, light historical romance.

Meet The Author ~ Celeste Grande

We are so excited to welcome Celeste Grande to our Meet the Author spot this week! We loved her debut novel, Live Me!

Published work:
Live Me ~ a Pieces of Broken novel : Book 1

Find it on Amazon

Promise You Forever (short story in the Hot For The Holidays box set)
Find it on Amazon

What are you working on now?
Book Two in the Pieces of Broken series, where we follow Blake and Eva’s journey

Do you get to write full time or do you also have a “day” job?
Ugh…day job, unfortunately. I’d so love to do nothing but write all day long, but my days consist of tax returns and other accounting duties.

Favorite part of being an author?
Hearing from people how much they love the story and the characters. It always blows my mind that they’re enjoying and feeling my words. I mean, for real?

Scariest part of being an author?
Rejection. Putting my heart and my insides out there to potentially be ripped to shreds or laughed at. It was my biggest fear before I published. That’s why it took me so long to do it.

Who are your favorites to read?
Gail McHugh, J Lynn, and Colleen Hoover if I have to choose.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?
I’d like to never have to sleep! Or, like the movie Limitless, be able to use 100% of my brain. Or both! Yes, that.

One piece of advice to an aspiring writer?
Don’t give up, but don’t be so quick to push the button. Take pride in your work. There’s no race to get out there. Your readers will thank you for it.

Then a moment of compassion turns intense dislike to breathless passion, and these two strong-willed, fiercely proud people are compelled to indulge in a brief affair. Each is convinced that they can satisfy their craving for the other without emotional risk. But neither realizes that a little dalliance can be a dangerous thing. Reader Advisory: This is an erotic historical romance and it contains frank sexual language and period appropriate sexual slang, frequent sexual scenes and descriptions and general bedchamber naughtiness. The characters discuss abuse issues from their backstories during the course of their developing relationship. For Adults 18 & Over Only.

King: Homeless. Hungry. Desperate. Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from. Tyrant: I. Remember. Everything. But the relief I thought I would feel never comes, and I’m more afraid now than I was the morning I woke up handcuffed in King’s bed. Because with the truth comes dark secrets I was never meant to know. I will put the lives of those I love most at risk if I let on that my memory has returned, or if I seek help from the heavily tattooed felon who owns me body and soul. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the magnetic pull toward King that grows stronger every day. He’s already saved me in more ways than one. Now it’s my turn to do whatever it takes to save him. Even if that means marrying someone else…

About the Author

T.M. (Tracey Marie) Frazier resides in sunny Southwest Florida with her husband and three feisty fur kids. She attended Florida Gulf Coast University where she specialized in public speaking. After years working in real estate and new home construction, she decided it was finally time to stop pushing her dreams to the back burner and pursue writing seriously. In the third grade she wrote her very first story about a lost hamster. It earned rave reviews from both her teacher and her parents. It only took her twenty years to start the next one. It will not be about hamsters.

The Truth About Him ~ Molly O'Keefe ~ NEW RELEASE and REVIEW

For fans of Christina Lauren and Jodi Ellen Malpas comes the next novel in M. O’Keefe’s breathtakingly sexy series about a woman called into a journey of the heart, body, and soul.
We played our roles, told each other lies.
But now Dylan is no longer just a mysterious deep voice on the other end of the line. We’re face-to-face and our relationship is very, very real.
We still have secrets—but so much is crystal clear:
The thrilling danger.
The raw, naked desire.
The need to keep feeling the way he makes me feel. Forever.
Dylan is putting up walls, trying to keep me safe, but he can’t shut me out. He has seen my darkness and rescued me. Now it’s my turn, if only he will let me.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait to long for this installment of the Everything I Left Unsaid Duet. We pick up exactly where the first book left off and dive right into the action with Annie and Dylan. These two have a lot to deal with now that they are physically together. In the first book, we watched Annie's emotional journey as she figured out who she was after an abusive relationship. In this book, we watch Dylan figure out how to deal with his new emotional life now that he is off his mountain. Ms. O'Keefe does a fantastic job of pulling us into the world of Dylan and Annie and making us care about what happens to these two. We learn more about Dylan's past and who he really is and I loved watching how his relationship with Annie also changed other aspects of his life. Physical danger is also present in this book, but the bigger story is Dylan's emotional growth. He and Annie both made mistakes, but you couldn't help but root for them. I wouldn't recommend reading this book on this own, there is too much of the story in book one. I would gladly recommend the Everything I Left Unsaid duet.
