Oh my, what a heart tugging sweet read!
Palmer is super mom! She’s had hard knocks and keeps picking herself up to protect herself and her son. Watching her navigate the trials and tribulations weighing on her makes me love her and want to just wrap her up in a big hug.
Cole is a recently retired pro baseball player with his own baggage. Once the issue he’s dealing with is revealed, it was hard not to like him even more and root for these two to find a happy ending.
Ms Locke does her typical excellent job of weaving real life in with a romantic, redeeming story. These characters face real issues, some of which Cole’s major league paydays can’t fix. Add in an excellent secondary cast, including a scene stealing 12 year old, and this is another Locke winner. I hope we see more of Bloomfield!

In Hard Luck, we return to the world of the St Louis Mavericks with somewhat new characters.
Lucy is the sister of Sawyer (a consistent secondary character) and she appears in town with a shadow hanging over her at the moment when Sawyer is really struggling. His good friend, Kon, is there is help both of them.

While some of the constructs around Lucy and Kon’s story are a bit far fetched, the story is fun enough that it’s easy to set those things aside. I genuinely liked both of these characters and rooted for them to resolve the issues around them.

Fans of the Mavericks will enjoy seeing previous main characters come in and out of the story. These catch ups are entertaining and it’s nice to see where everyone is now. Don’t worry if this is your first visit to St. Louis, this well written tale stands alone well.

Someone to Hold is a book that is hard to review. I want to recommend that everyone read it (and add a small disclaimer), but I want to be careful to not give anything about the story away.

This is the second installment in the Wild Widows series and focuses on group founder Iris as she makes the decision to take steps toward a romantic relationship in the “after.” Iris is a character that we originally met as a secondary in the first book of this series, but it was a pleasure to get to know her better here. She is someone that I would like to be friends with! She’s a wonderful combination of strong and vulnerable and is brutally honest about her grieving process and the highs and lows that come with it.

Ms Force does and excellent job of treating Iris and the whole cast with true grace as they navigate their grief journeys. The journeys portrayed here are mostly positive, but there is an element of honesty from the characters as they acknowledge hard days, struggles, and issues that trigger set backs. Some of the situations presented in Someone to Hold have a certain naïveté in regards to how people tangential to the events will respond, but I think the overall treatment of the situations works for the story being told.

This disclaimer I mentioned earlier has to do with the subject matter. This is definitely more of a “womens fiction book with a romantic story” vs a true romance that some might expect when the see who the author is. The reader’s life experience may make some of the subject matter here more impactful, so I would suggest that be considered before just diving in.

As the second book in a series, Someone to Hold is sequential in timeline. As such, there is a strong presence from the prior main characters. Someone to Hold is a standalone read, but I would suggest going in order for the best series experience.
