When I am looking for something unique to read, RC Boldt always delivers!
When Lies Unfold is a multi-layered book where the characters live in the grey area between right and wrong. Satinago is a Costa Rican narco and Lola is the local house cleaner in the wrong place at the wrong time. It took me a little bit to like these characters, but I was initially invested in them. The struggles they had to find their way to a peaceful coexistence (and more) were entertaining to watch.
This book needs to be experienced, so I won't go into too much detail about what happens. Just understand that Ms Boldt will take you on a bit of a ride and there are twists you won't see coming. The overall cast of When Lies Unfold is relatively small in terms of key players, so the others we do see are important. There are a couple of people that I would be curious to learn more about if they were to pop up in future stories.
I debated making this a 5-star read. The only thing that kept me from doing so was a couple of loose ends that nagged at me. They were small things that did not truly impact the story, so are probably personal preference things, but they were kind of like pebbles in the shoe of reading.
