Ambition. Revenge. Love.
RITA® Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the gripping conclusion to the All the King’s Men Duet.
Raised to resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.
Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we’re the pawns and players.
Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

Elizabeth's Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars - One of the Best

Review Copy Provided by Author

This 5 star review is for the duet that includes The Kingmaker and The Rebel King....

If you have followed me for any length of time, you know the I DO NOT like duets. I have been burned so many times by them that I actively avoid them. Why then did I read this one? Simple - it’s Kennedy Ryan. Not only has she been a favorite author for a while, she is a thorough researcher and uses her platform to challenge readers social conceptions/biases without “preaching.” Ms Ryan has a unique talent for bringing issues to the forefront while also making every reader feel seen.

This duet has a suspense/intrigue element that is best experienced first hand, so in an effort to not give anything away, I’m going to tell you why I don’t like duets and how this one changes the game.

1) Does it REALLY need 2 books? In this case yes. The Kingmaker has the history of Maxim and Lennix that starts when she is 13. It is the book that answers the question of “can these two be a couple?” The Rebel King’s time line is much shorter, but asks the question of “now that they found each other, can they make it work?”

2) Drawn out or overdone sexy times for filler. Yeah, that doesn’t happen here. There are plenty of intimate moments between Lennix and Maxim, but they all help drive the story and confirm the relationship between the two. Some of their most intimate moments aren’t in the bedroom and have them fully dressed. The emotional connection between the two radiates off the page.

3) Drama for the sake of drama. Yes, there is plenty of drama here, but it’s never feels gratuitous. There were some surprises and some things that I saw coming, but how they were handled help show the depth of relationships and emotional growth on multiple fronts.

If you are looking for a light, quick read then this is not the duet for you. If you are looking for complex, unique characters facing challenges and changing dynamics then dive right in! I will tease you a little bit - I loved the ending of The Rebel King. It was the perfect balance of resolution and “what happens next?” That leaves the door open for the reader’s imagination to spin the story out.... or maybe there is more to the story?
