Susan Mallery is an author whom I met through her romance works and have appreciated experiencing her evolution into a different type of storytelling.
Erica and Allison are women in vastly different places in life and have nothing in common, except that they share a husband/ex-husband. Erica's teenage daughter, Summer, loves her stepmother, and that connects them as Allison's life spirals out of control thanks to her husband's actions.
These are interesting women. I wasn't sure I liked them early on, but I respected them both. Erica had created an empire for herself. Allison worked just as hard but was more plodding along. I appreciated how Ms Mallery used Summer's role to bring everyone together and break down walls.
The fallout from Peter's (the husband) actions shakes everything up and leads both Erica and Allison on a journey where they face physical challenges, but also things that are hard emotionally. Watching their transformations was heartwarming and filled with hope for those that have been wounded, but keep trying.
Add in a small and interesting secondary cast and you have a great Summer read.

Surprisingly sweet read….
Monroe and Juliet are characters that we’ve met in secondary roles before, so it was fun to get to know them better here.
This connected stand alone focuses on co-workers with different views of love as they are put in an unusual situation. I loved their interactions and seeing the emotional evolution both characters went through.
The secondary cast here is fairly small, but plays a key role in holding up a mirror for our pairs feelings. Ms Blakely did an excellent job of helping our pair grow as individuals as well as together!
This was a fun read that I had a hard time putting down.
