Review Round Up ~ May 5

New Releases:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars - One of the Best

This is the feel-good read you didn’t know you needed!
Ms Rose brings us a baseball romance featuring “older” characters with an unconventional meet cute.

Silas and Rachel are fantastic characters from the get go and I loved getting to know them. I appreciated that the road blocks Ms Rose gave the couple are external to them and not related to either of them behaving badly.

Ms Rose gives her characters real life struggles and lets them navigated things with grace. Add in some spiciness and interesting secondary players and it was very definitely a book I couldn’t put down!

Let’s go back to Roseville, TN! We met this fun little town in a previous book by Ms Hart and we are back, this time with former high school sweethearts Wilder and Cass. These two had a wild reconnection and I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, so you have to read it!

There are really two stories here. On the surface, there is the second chance that Cass and Wilder have to find out who they are as adults and if the love they felt in high school is still there, thriving, and can expand to include a surprise child.
Deeper into the story is Cass and her journey to redefine herself. The reconnection with Wilder came shortly after a huge life event that left her reeling. The portrayal of her was real in a way that some female main characters aren’t. We were able to see the mental load she carried by taking on too much, something many women do, and how a good partner can mitigate that.

The only reason this wasn’t a 4 star read was the pacing. There were places where I found myself skimming. I enjoyed Cass and Wilder and seeing them craft a life together, but there were places that were a smidge repetitive. (This is completely subjective, so please don’t let me potentially dissuade you!)

The secondary cast was great and am so very curious about where Ms Hart will be taking our friends from Roseville!

Welcome to Peachtree Pass! We get to meet a group of new characters- primarily Christine and Tagger.
They are a mix of best friends little sister all grown up and a potential long distance relationship that shouldn’t work.
I enjoyed these two and I liked them together, but I also struggled with them a little. Part of my struggle was that I didn’t feel like I knew what was motivating the characters. Who Christine and Tagger were as people was pieced together throughout the story and there were times when it was a little fuzzy.
S L Scott is an author I genuinely enjoy reading and this is another entertaining book from her. It’s an interesting community with secondary characters that have me curious.
