That Was Yesterday by HJ Bellus ~ New Release & Review

Title: That Was Yesterday
Author: HJ Bellus
Genre: Contemporary Romance (standalone)
Release Date: December 4, 2018
One call. That’s all it took to change everything. The sweet voice on the other end of the line delivered a blow I never saw coming. Fighting for our country’s freedom and staring death in the eye was nothing compared to this news. History has one hell of a way repeating itself. Kate Wilson’s voice didn’t waver once as she turned my worst nightmare into a reality, and her words weaved a cruel poetic justice.
I hadn’t been back home in over two years. Once I pulled into the one-horse town, I was greeted by the gorgeous blonde.
Kate extended her hand and offered me a warm smile. The connection was made. The innocent beauty has no idea that she just flipped my life upside down.
She’d unearthed secrets that can never be buried.

When you read this book, be prepared for a fast paced ride!
Max is a young man who has made a lot out of himself despite a rough start (if you have read book 1 of this series you will recognize his adopted parents). A shocking call brings him full circle, not only back to a town he doesn’t like, but to his emotional roots.
I loved Max. From his quiet strength as a teen, to his understanding of his own heart in college, to his determination to do the right thing as an adult.
Kate (our heroine) was equally awesome. We don’t know as much about her and what has shaped her, but it’s obvious she’s a wonderful woman and the perfect compliment to Max.
There is a lot that happens in this story and Ms Bellus does an excellent job of maintaining the pace of the story without things feeling rushed. While we don’t get deep dives into certain aspects, everything feels complete. There is an art to telling such a complex tale in a fairly short read and Ms Bellus has mastered it here.
Not only is this an enjoyable read, it highlights the dangers of a closed community where people can turn a blind eye to trouble as well as the impact one or two special people can have on the life of a child. The cast of characters here is wonderful and I can’t wait to see what is in store for them.

HJ Bellus is a small-town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shot gunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
