Steals and Deals ~ December 28-31
Review Round Up ~ December 28
New or Newer Releases:
Watch Over You is the final book in the series surrounding the McKenzie siblings and while I feel like the book “did it’s job” in giving Madison a story, I didn’t feel like it was as dynamic as the previous books in the series.
As the final book in the trilogy, Watch Over You also seemed to rely heavily on the previous two books for set up and backstory. The timeline here is sequential to the previous books and the assumption appears to be that if you are reading this book then you have read the others as well.
I enjoyed seeing a softer side to Madison. Her interactions with Crosby were entertaining and surprisingly sweet, but again, I felt like opportunities were missed in exploring the conflict between how they do things.
Overall, this was a book I enjoyed, but didn’t love. I would definitely suggest a reader start with one of the other books in this series before reading this one.

I have been on a mission recently to get caught up with the Jamison Valley series and was curious to see where Maisy’s story would take us. Maisy is a secondary character that had a fairly significant role in the first book of the series and has been a consistent presence since.
There are strong ties between the story here and Maisy’s past, so I do think this is a book best read if you’ve (at least) read the Coppersmith Farmhouse. If that isn’t possible, don’t worry - Ms Perry does an excellent job of pulling everything together for you!
I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that I enjoyed getting to know the more mature Maisy. There are twists and turns that I didn’t expect, including an air of mystery around her live interest.
If you are reading the series in order, you will be excited to see what old friends are doing now.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend
I have been curious about Kendall Ryan’s Hot Jocks for w while, so when this popped up as a free read, I jumped at the chance to dive in.
I was a little worried because this is book 5 in the series, but it totally worked as a stand alone. My guess is that the leads here (Landon and Aubree) have been secondary characters in previous books, but not knowing that going in didn’t detract from their story at all.
This was a fun and fairly quick read. Both main characters are easy to like and I appreciated the way the handled their unique situation. The secondary cast is fairly large, but it works - there is a good balance between the primary couple and their story along with the sub/friend plot lines.
Reading this has just made me more curious about the rest of the series!
My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend
When I realized that The Candle Palace was Sara and Milo’s story, I wondered how that was going to work - they have been consistent secondary characters in this series for a while. I loved the way Ms Perry pulled it off!
Milo and Sara have a great story about seeing past first impressions to the person with in and finding the right person at the right time. I loved getting to see their bond form and how it flourished even when things worked against them.
The Candle Palace was an excellent conclusion to the Jamison Valley series. My only regret is that the series is over!

Sawyer Bennett is a go to author and I am a big fan of the Jameson Force Security books, but I never expected to read Code Name: Disavowed in one day!
I liked Ladd and Greer as characters. They were fun to get to know and I enjoyed seeing their back story filter through to the present day. This was a great blend of real life, work related suspense, and a second chance at love. A certain young secondary character is a complete scene stealer- and those interactions with Ladd made me like him even more.
Greer is a unique leading lady and a different take on a “damsel in distress.” The balance of alpha characteristics between Ladd and Greer was a great dynamic to this story and definitely makes it stand out.
Of the Jameson books, this is probably one of the more stand alone reads as Ladd is a newer character to join the team and not as prominent in the previous books of the series. Loyal Jameson readers will be glad to see lots of familiar faces pop in, but new readers could easily join in the fun as well.

Resolution ~ Adriana Locke ~ New Release & Review
From USA Today Bestselling author Adriana Locke comes a workplace romance between a grumpy, alpha architect and his new client—who just so happens to have the blueprint to bring him to his knees.
Romance is not in Wade Mason’s portfolio.
This is tragic. It’s unfair that a man so maddeningly gorgeous—an architect with a deliciously squarish jaw, adorably dimpled chin, and the hottest black glasses that straddle the line between professional and provocative—rebukes all things love.
I knew this well before I walked into his office.
The man is a conundrum—a complicated, steel wall of a puzzle. On the one hand, he brushes against me in the conference room with a broodiness that sets me on fire. He demands in-person meetings about the house we are working on together. I catch him watching me out of the corner of his eye with a look that’s anything but platonic. But any talk of hookups, love, or relationships—even in general? Completely off the table.
I’m determined to peel back his layers until I get to the bottom of the mysterious businessman. But my plan is foiled by a surprise that leaves both of us reeling. Neither of us sees it coming, but it changes everything … forever.
Excerpt:
Much to my surprise and annoyance, she laughs as she walks by me. Her elbow grazes my stomach in a move that I think is intentional. Before I can react, she’s down the hall and standing in front of Eliza.
“That dress is stunning on you,” she tells Eliza as if we weren’t in a strained conversation five seconds ago. “Where did you get it?”
“Oh, for f*ck’s sake,” I grumble as I slam my door. The framed copy of the first building I ever designed shakes against the wall.
I lean against my desk and suck in a deep lungful of air. The scent of coconuts only intensifies my frustration.
I open a window and then sit down.
“Busy men always go through the motions and never have time to be creative. I’m not sure that fits my needs.”
What the hell?
Relational intimacy.
Loads of rubbish, just as it was ten years ago.
Instead of listening to spoiled, silver spoon-fed women who want their ridiculous projects handled, I have real work to do.
My heart pumps from the interaction with Dara, and I find myself replaying much of our conversation. It’s not until I get to relational intimacy do I realize how much time I’ve wasted—and am still wasting.
I put my phone on Do Not Disturb and get back to the only thing I ever want to know intimately—my work.

Wade Mason has been a consistent secondary character throughout this series and I am so glad that we finally got to see a little bit of the man behind the snarky attitude!
Dara was the perfect leading lady for our grumpy architect- I loved how she didn’t put up with his attitude and gave as good as she got!
This is probably the most emotional of the Mason family books. You get to read to find out why, but Ms Locke handled everything just right. I appreciated how she had the characters evolve and face key issues so that they could put demons to rest and see where things would lead.
If you have been reading the Mason family series, you will be thrilled to see the updates on the other brothers. But, don’t worry! While this is a great series conclusion, the “wrap up” doesn’t detract from the core story. There are even a few teasers for things that may be coming soon and I am definitely curious!

Review Round Up ~ December 9

I picked this up as a free read and I am so glad I did!
It’s a quick read, but Holly (and Nick) are super cute characters.
Her interactions with her sisters were hilarious and I would love to see where their stories go.

This is the 4th book in the Jamison Valley series that I’ve read in the last couple of weeks. Based on the ending of book three (the Lucky Heart), I had a rough idea of who the characters here would be and Ms Perry did not disappoint in her story telling.
I appreciated the emotional growth Sabrina went through over the course of her time at The Outpost. I also enjoyed the interactions she had with Beau as they became friends and decided if they should explore more.
This is a series I have grown to love and I am a bit disappointed that there are only 2 more books to go. Having read some of Ms Perry’s other works first, it was fun to see characters from those books pop up here.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars - Average Read
This is a box set that I picked up for free made up of first books in 5 distinct series.
To be honest, none of these really did it for me - I think some of it might be that this author just isn't my cup of tea.
Sir loin of beef - 2.5
There’s a story here? If there is, I had a hard time finding it. There is no character development and minimal plot, but lots of sexy time, esp given that this as a very short “book”
Montana Heat - 3
This was more my speed. I liked Jane and TY. Decent amount of intrigue and relationship building.
Mountain Darkness 2.5
Decent plot, but random cliffhanger ending! Very little character development. This is a ménage story and to be honest, I kept getting distracted by practical/legal issues. How would the community react to a triad relationship, how would they do some of the things they wanted to do (like get married and have kids).
Cowboys and kisses - 2.5
Ugh…. There is nothing historical about this book except the setting. The leading lady set my teeth on edge with her sheer bratty behavior.
Decent plot, but this is a modern/sexy times read set in the old west.
Ride me dirty-3
This story is similar to Sir Loin of Beef, but has much better story telling. I found the characters to be entertaining and the plot interesting if slightly unresolved.

Washed Away by R.C. Boldt ~ New Release & Review
“Do you know my name?”
Every muscle in my body goes rigid. “Excuse me?”
Her chest heaves, and the movement clearly causes her pain, but her lips flatten stubbornly. “What is my name?” Those blue eyes are troubled now, fear edging in, while distress practically oozes from her voice.
“You don’t…know your name?” I ask slowly, carefully gauging her reaction.
“No.” She swallows audibly, her eyes filling with tears. “I don’t remember anything.”
Fuck.
I scoot my rolling stool closer and take a seat beside her. Peering at her, I try to decipher whether she’s being completely honest.
I’ve learned to be suspicious over the years, especially with living in part of the denser, remote jungle areas bordering the coast.
“Well, what I can tell you is”—I lace my fingers casually—“you’re not pregnant, you have an IUD for birth control, and the panel I ran on you says you’re negative for any sexually transmitted diseases.
“You’re also blood type O, and your X-rays showed some broken bones—both previously incurred and current.
“Two of your ribs on your right side showed current hairline fractures, likely sustained during your…accident.”
I pause for even a flicker of acknowledgment but get nothing. Nothing, that is, except witness her expression bloom with stark terror.
“I removed two bullets from your shoulder and two more from your side near your hip. You also suffered a considerable stab wound.
“The X-rays indicated you most recently broke your index finger on your left hand. It’s since healed.”
She stares down at her hand, now trembling slightly, as if it’s grown a head of its own. I don’t bother informing her of the other bones in her body that indicated a previous break or fracture.
Broken left wrist.
Fracture near the base of her right elbow.
Fractures of most of the small bones in her right foot.
Broken nose.
Fractured jaw.
Straightening her fingers, she wiggles them before her eyes cut to mine. A thread of panic lines her tone. “I should remember something like that, shouldn’t I?”
I scan her features again for evidence of deceit but come up empty.
I’m dealing with a woman who has a severe case of amnesia.
Sonofabitch.

Are you looking for a read that’s going to keep you on your toes until the very end? Then Washed Away is right up your alley!
We start with a mystery and as we see the story told from the dual points of view; some of the mystery peels away while other aspects of the story are built up, mainly the relationship between the main characters.
I enjoyed getting to know both the leads here and found the balance between intrigue and romance to be well maintained. There was one piece of the story line that I found a bit confusing (hence the 4 star rating instead of 5), but I think that may be an issue with perception and challenging early ideas from the story. (Meaning an issue on my end, not the book itself).
Washed Away is on the darker side and definitely a bit edgy, but it’s so worth the time to get to know these characters and see where their adventures lead them.
