3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up The Love in Sunsets, but I enjoyed it!
Eloise is an early 20-something who returns to her hometown for the summer. Keil is a college grad at loose ends on vacation with his family.

Overall, this is a sweet read with a touch of spice. Both Keil and Eloise are at a point where they are trying to figure out what comes next in their lives. Do they go right, go left, or take a massive detour? It was endearing to see them lean on each other to navigate these choices with the background of family support.

While I enjoyed this book and appreciated seeing Eloise and Keil navigate a summer romance, the potential for more, and figuring out life, I had a little bit of a hard time connecting with the story. I think some of it was pacing, I was well past the 40% mark before the main characters made a connection. Another piece of my struggle with connecting may also have to do with the fact that I am just not in the young love mindset - my kids are closer to Eloise's age and it created a weird vibe for me.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good book and well worth a reader's time. I'd just recommend knowing what you are in the mood for!

We met Tuck and Maren in the first book of the Harbor Village series and new sparks were gonna fly between them, but I never expected the ride that I Wish You Were Mine was going to take us on!

Tuck is an early 30's single dad with baggage. Maren is an early 20s graduate student at a crossroads when she comes to work for Tuck as his nanny. These two are likable characters on their own, especially once you get past Tuck's gruffness, but together they set the e-reader on fire! Ms Peterson does an excellent job creating a friendship and building tension until it boils over. The emotions that ebbed and flowed through this story felt real, both the good and the gut punches, and made these people feel authentic.

One of the things I appreciated most about I Wish You Were Mine was that Ms. Peterson avoided some of the obvious sources of conflict in the story. The path the story took was slightly unexpected, but it revealed a side of Tuck that we hadn't seen before. This revealed cracks in the foundation and provided an opportunity for growth.

While this is the second book in the Harbour Village series, it is a stand-alone read. Parts of the timeline overlap with the first book in the series reading in order to adds to the depth of the experience, but is not necessary.
