Synopsis
Some connections are so powerful they will not be denied. Despite doing everything in their power to fight their feelings, Chase and Arianna decide to give their love a second chance. This is a book that I have been excited about; I love Isabelle Richards and I wanted to see the conclusion of Hate to Love You. But, I’ve also been dreading a little bit because – well, Isabelle tends to have a “little” angst in her books and the title IS “Love to Hate You” so, I worried about where we were going. It turns out that I didn’t have anything to worry about. In Love to Hate You, Ari and Chase go on a roller coaster ride with an unexpected, but totally worthwhile ending. Love to Hate You picks up exactly where the previous book left off and the dual point of view storytelling was incredibly helpful because it allowed us to see inside both of their heads. Events that looked one way from Ari’s point of view had a completely different context when viewed through Chase’s experiences. Chase, Ari, and their new found relationship face several big obstacles right off the bat and they seem to handle them well at the time. Both seem to work hard to curb their natural inclinations and work at being together. Ari finally takes one hit too many and reverts to her natural instincts to run. The story that follows breaks your heart, then starts to put it together again. One of the interesting aspects of the story was an apparent role reversal for Chase and Ari. In Hate to Love You, Ari appeared to be the much more mature one even though they are exactly the same age. In Love to Hate You, Chase is definitely better equipped to handle the bumps in the road. The more mature Chase was wonderful to watch and I appreciated the steadfast approach he took to things. One things that I found telling was the fact that Ari was convinced Chase would leave because of mistakes that she had made. My heart hurt for both of them at multiple places as we moved through the story together. After I finished the book, I found myself thinking about some of the underlying issues in the story. What were Chase and Ari really dealing with? What happens to someone when the foundation they have built their life on is pulled away? When do you go after a loved one and when do you wait for them to come to you? How do you know the difference? How do we handle grief? Is there such a thing as a good secret? Is fast the best way to handle a problem or does it just create problems later? Can treatment for a problem cross a line and become a problem? Our super couple went through a lot together over the course of both books, but they had to in order to learn what was really important to both of them. When you sit down to read this book, be prepared for an emotional experience, but make sure you have read Hate to Love You first.
