5 Stars - One of the Best I've Read

Word of caution - to get the full impact of this book, you really need to back story that is book 1 in the duet, Low Over High. This can be read as a stand alone, but wouldn't have the emotional impact that comes from reading it as a set.

That said-I would have to call this more of an emotional read vs traditional romance read. Ms. deRouen takes Marlo, a secondary character throughout the series, and forces her really face a pivotal moment from her past and truly deal with the results.

When Ever finds Marlo after an 8 year separation, they have wounds to heal and walls to scale. I appreciated the fact that while the characters dealt with their issues they didn't dwell on them.
It was interesting to read adult Marlo knowing her history and what made her feel the way she does. It also made me root for her and Ever as they faced the past to see if the foundation for a future could exist.

Ms. DeRouen specializes in books that make the reader stop and think. Love is at the core of all her stories, but sometimes she makes you wonder if that is enough. This is a fabulous duet. If you haven't read this author yet, Low over High and Ever Over After would be a good place to start.
