Oh, my Graham!
Football Super Bowl hero Graham has an unforgettable ending to his season. It upsets the orderly balance of his life and sends him looking for something, even if he doesn't know what. This intersects neatly with Emmy having the worst of the worst days and tips the dominos of fate.
The setup of My Darling Bride could only happen in fiction. Even knowing that the crafting around Graham and Emmy pulled me into the story, I found myself rooting for them to find the emotional healing that would allow them to explore their growing attachment. One of the things I appreciated about My Darling Bride was that Ms Madden Mills avoided one of the most clear avenues for conflict. She gave us enough clues that we know how that piece of the plot resolved, but she explored a less obvious route that let the core of the characters show through.
As Graham plays for the New York Pythons, there are familiar secondary characters, but this is a true stand-alone. Emmy has a wonderful family and their presence adds so much to the story, including helping knock sense into our lead characters when needed. I am hoping that there may have been clues about a future story in the interactions between Jasper (Graham's teammate) and Jane (Emmy's sister) because I enjoyed this world and would like to spend more time here!
