Born with the ability to see spirits, immortal Yuri Sokolov avoids making contact with them, because such has always yielded negative results...until lovely Cat Seddon begins haunting his home and his dreams. As a new threat rises against the Immortal Guardians, Yuri disregards all the rules so he can be with Cat, even though the consequences are substantial.

For centuries, Catherine Seddon has been alone. When her brother is forced to join the Immortal Guardians’ ranks, she haunts the primary home of the powerful warriors to keep an eye on him, and soon finds herself captivated by Yuri. The handsome Russian immortal swiftly banishes her loneliness as friendship grows between them and deepens into love.  But can two people who are unable to touch find a future together?

Thank you, Elizabeth, for helping me celebrate the release of my Immortal Guardians novella PHANTOM EMBRACE.  I’m very happy to be here at E-Reading After Midnight.

Do you get to write full time or do you also have a “day” job?

I mostly write full time.  I do still occasionally take independent film jobs.  It’s something I enjoy.  And the talented actors and filmmakers with whom I’ve worked have helped me produce some great trailers for my books.  J  But now—instead of working all three stages of production as I used to do—I usually only do special effects make-up, special effects, and film editing.

Who are your favorites to read?

Laurann Dohner, Gena Showalter, J.R. Ward, Christine Feehan, and Stephen King.  Stephen King is a favorite of mine from both a reading and a writing perspective.  I enjoy his fiction novels.  And, as a writer, I like to listen to his audiobook On Writing periodically as a refresher.  It covers areas of writing that my creative writing professors in college never even mentioned, and always leaves me eager to write my next story.

One piece of advice to an aspiring writer?

Never stop looking for ways to improve your writing.  Even if you hit all of the bestseller lists and go on to sell millions of copies, keep searching for ways to make your next book better.

How do you come up with character names?

The immortals in my Immortal Guardians series range in age from just over a century to thousands of years old.  So I start with their country of origin, then look up names that were in use there around the time of their birth. While I’m combing through the records, usually one name in particular will leap out at me and just feel perfect for that particular character.  (The same holds true for the characters in The Gifted Ones series.)

For the mortals in my Immortal Guardians series, a name will often come to me as soon as I create the character.  If it doesn’t, I comb though baby name lists until I find one that I think suits the character.

Do you cry if you have to kill off a character?

If it’s one of the good guys, yes.  (A lot of bad guys have been slain in my Immortal Guardians series, and I didn’t shed a tear over any of them.  LOL)  There have also been times when no character died, but I still cried when I wrote the scene.  I always hope that’s a good sign, that the scene will evoke a similar emotional response in readers.  So I’m always weirdly happy when a reader tells me this or that scene made her cry.  J

A parallel story to that of Night Unbound. I loved the story of Yuri, a character we have seen in previous books. It was fun to get to know him more and I really enjoyed the direction the author took with this story. She keeps surprising me with her ability to keep the Immortal Guardians fresh.

  3. Good morning. I've had this series on my to be read list for a while now, always meaning to read it. I usually like to read a series in order but the excerpt has me sucked in and I am going to start with Yuri & Cat. So excited to finally be able to read your books.
