It's always interesting when an author whose work you enjoy tries something new. I went into Drowning knowing that I like Gia Riley's work, but not sure what to expect over all.

I liked Andi and Adrian - both characters were interesting and selfless in ways that you wouldn't anticipate, especially from someone who is an elite athlete. It's almost like going to the bottom of the barrel gave them a connection that may not have existed otherwise.

As much as I liked Andi and Adrian, I struggled a little bit with the story. I felt like Adrian's situation was given the gravitas it deserved, but that the situation Andi was trying to leave behind was minimized. It seemed like Andi was able to bounce very easily from a traumatic past to a relationship with Adrian and the emotional connection wasn't there for me to understand how that could happen in the space of hours.

While there are pieces of the story that I would have changed if I could, it's a solid effort from a new writing team. The work that went into creating one voice was obvious and enjoyable. Andi and Adrian are definitely worth getting to know, they are a wonderful example of how having the right person in your corner to believe in you can make a world of difference.
