A Few new releases and TBR Reads

Misconduct (Birmingham Rebels, #4)Misconduct by Samantha Kane

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Publisher via Net Galley

I think this may be my favorite of the Rebels series.
Technically, this is a stand alone, but a lot of the character development takes place in the books that come before. If you are new to the Rebels books, this is an issue you should consider before diving in.

Like the previous books in the series, Ms Kane packs Misconduct with plenty of racy sexy time, but it's not the core issue that it has been previously. The budding Tom-Danny-Carmina relationship definitely has more of an emotional component than we've seen in the series before.

If you have been following the series from the beginning, you will get to see early friends make an appearance as this book seems to encompass at least a portion of all the couples we've met to date.

This also touches on the difficulties that returning veterans can face, this is handled in a way that shows Carmina's strength, but also the vulnerability of her character.

This is a must read for Rebels fans!

Frisk Me (New York's Finest, #1)Frisk Me by Lauren Layne

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Free Paperback from Publisher

This was a cute read featuring a dedicated NY cop and the reporter tasked with telling the tale of America's hero cop.
Luca and Ava are both entertaining characters and I enjoyed their journey from antagonists to friendly to lovers. Both Luc and Ava had demons to battle and while that led to crossed swords, it also took them on a journey of self discovery.
This is the first book in Layne's New York's finest series and as such introduces a fun secondary cast that I look forward to getting to know better.

Naughty Prescription: A Bad Boy Medical RomanceNaughty Prescription: A Bad Boy Medical Romance by Tia Lewis
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

oh boy....
This story had potential to be cute. Older, successful doctor "meets" young nurse at his hospital via an online dating app not realizing they work together. A relationship develops, they get caught, and eventually get back together.
The cute idea died on the operating table and was killed by poor execution. The dialogue is incredibly stiff and stilted and the characters are underdeveloped and hard to connect too.
Even if the conflict and eventual resolution are semi realistic, that is blown out of the water by the "twist" in Anna's background revealed at the very end.
This just wasn't a good read for me.
