The Ravishing is a slightly dark, redemption story focusing on Cassius and Anya.
On the surface, this is a story that I liked. It was easy to understand Cassius’ motivation and I appreciated his evolution as the story went on. Anya was a little harder for me to get a read on and it took me longer to embrace her as a character to root for. The intrigue elements of the story were entertaining and kept me on my toes as things progressed.
The more time I spent reading and thinking about The Ravishing, there were a couple of things that seemed inconsistent. The biggest of these was Anya herself. Her age and backstory were part of it. With the situation she was in, I had a hard time completely buying the maturity she displayed.
The inconsistency things may have been an issue caused by the fact that this was written by a duo vs a single author. Some of these were a bit distracting, but didn’t detract from the overall appreciation of Cassius and Anya’s evolution from enemies to lovers. The secondary cast was small, but interesting. There were a couple of pieces of that puzzle that I’d be curious to learn more about.
