It was supposed to be fun. A mutual use of each other's bodies. To be a ruse to the world around us. I wanted to be free from my ex, and he wanted to escape his. One drunken night turned a joke into a life-changing moment. He warned me not to fall for him, and I should've listened. He intoxicated me. He made me crave him. He ruined me. In the end, I'll never be the same.

I'm a fan of Ms Sloane's Corps Security series and this is part of the Hope Town spin off. I haven't read the previous Hope Town books, but that didn't keep this from being an enjoyable read.
Nikki and Shane have been in each other's orbit for a couple of years, but never really connected until one steamy encounter leads to drunk texting.
The set up of the story is cute and the characters are easy to like. Shane is very much an Alpha male character, very much in the spirit of Corps Security. Nikki is a fun and sassy heroine that has a nice balance of leaning on her man, but also standing up for himself.
If ample sexy time and rougher language bother you, then this would not be for you. Ms. Sloane does an excellent job of walking the line of what works for the story and character, but not going over into "too much" and having those features just for shock value.
This has made me curious about the previous books of the Hope Town series.
