I WISH YOU WERE MINE
Oxford #2
Lauren Layne
Releasing on February 2, 2016
Loveswept

Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

Lauren Layne is a newer author for me and after loving Irresistibly Yours, the first book in the Oxford series, I was excited to have the chance to read I Wish You Were Mine.
I have to admit that I cringed a little bit when I read the blurb for this book. It sounded like a complicated love triangle between two sisters and one of their ex husbands. Thankfully, this is a case of the blurb not doing the book justice.

Jackson is an interesting hero. He's had the career he loved ripped from him by an accident, his marriage imploded, and he's trying to rebuild his life in a city he's not sure he likes. He was fun to watch, especially as his new life begins to grow on him almost without him realizing it.

Mollie is the younger sister of Jackson's ex-wife. She and Jackson were friends and she had a crush on him for years - she is the last person he should get involved with. I loved Mollie! She's sweet and genuine and doesn't play games. She's one of the few people who tried to keep up with Jackson as his life was changing. She doesn't reconnect with him intending for their relationship to change, but she's all in when it does. I appreciated the fact that even though Madison, Mollie's sister and Jackson's ex, doesn't treat her well, she still tries to maintain their relationship.

Jackson and Mollie were fun to watch together. Not only did they have great sexy time, but they also had real relationship moments. Madison throws a wrench into things and Jackson's desire to have his old life back doesn't help either. I loved watching Jackson figure out what he really wanted and go for it.

The supporting cast in I Wish You Were Mine are great! The gang from Irresistibly Yours is back as are the ladies from Stiletto. They add humor and friendship that help move the story along as well as support when Jackson and Mollie need it. I Wish You Were Mine is another hit in the Oxford series and I am looking forward to seeing what is next from Lauren Layne.
