TAKING THE SCORE
Tall, Dark and Texan #2
Kate Meader
Releasing February 15th, 2016
Entangled Brazen
His office temptation is now his full-blown fantasy…
Paying down her sister’s debts has left Emma Strickland with little more than the thrift store suit on her back. And as if the suckfest couldn’t get worse, she’s forced to moonlight as a waitress to support herself and her cat. At a strip club. Her uptight, sexy-as-hell boss Brody Kane can never find out.
Texas property tycoon Brody Kane hired Emma for her spreadsheet skills, but her prim and proper demeanor sealed the deal. There’s no room in his life for a sexy distraction … and yet, he can’t stop lusting after the delicious Ms. Strickland. And then he takes an important client to a Chicago strip club and gets the worst lap dance in adult entertainment history. From Emma.
Now that he knows his office good girl has a naughty streak, Brody makes it his mission to uncover her secrets, one steamy, illicit, over-the-desk encounter at a time. But Emma is hiding more than her side job, and her final secret could end up destroying them both.

Who are your favorite authors to read?
I love romantic comedies from authors like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Julie James, Lauren Layne, and Jill Shalvis. But I also like it a little bit more angsty as well. Victoria Dahl is one of my favorites – amazing sex-positive heroines with funny, potty mouths.
What is your favorite part of being an author?
Being able to come up with the snappy comeback that I wish I could say in real life. My characters are always such witty smart asses!
What is the scariest thing about writing?
That something you put your heart and soul into won’t find an audience or people might not love it or your characters as much as you do. I’ve figured out that I can’t please everyone, so those tough reviews don’t make quite as much impact as they once did.
Do your ideas come from "real life" situations or pure imagination?
Mostly my imagination. I wish I knew a sexy chef or a hard-bodied firefighter or a Texan tycoon. Of course, I do steal a few things from real life. My current hero, Brody from TAKING THE SCORE is a cat-loving, Dr. Who-adoring, Star Wars-quoting geek—just like a certain man in my life.
Of the places you have traveled, what is your favorite?
Italy, without a doubt. It’s been ten years since I’ve been but the last time was really special. I got married in the hills above Florence! Read all about it.
What advice would you give an aspiring author?
It seems obvious but write every day, even it’s a few words. The writing brain is a muscle and it needs exercise.
Do you have writing rituals?
Not really. I pretty much need quiet, but other than that, I don’t have any rituals.
You've written several series, do you have a favorite?
I usually love whichever series I’m writing right now. I most recently finished the last book in the Hot in Chicago series—Wyatt’s book, so that’s my current favorite. It centers on a kick-ass group of firefighting foster siblings, the family you make rather than the one you’re born into.

When you settle down to read Taking the Score, be prepared to enjoy meeting Brody and Emma. Both were very likable characters. Brody appears to be straight laced and uptight at first, but the more we get to know him the more we discover he has several interesting personality quirks. Emma is funny and strong; I enjoyed watching her stand up for herself.
The circumstances that lead from Emma being Brody's assistant to them establishing a relationship is almost cringe worthy, but it's potential for awkwardness is what made it work for these two. Ms. Meader does a fantastic job of letting us get into the characters heads a little bit and giving us a chance to understand why Brody went around Emma to fix her problem and why Emma reacted as harshly as see did.
Brody's romantic gesture to win Emma back is definitely cute and shows the sweet moments that Brody slips into throughout the story.
Taking the Score is the second book in a series, but it works very well on it's own. There is some character cross over between this book and the first, but not so much that you have to read the first book to enjoy this one.

Originally from Ireland, Kate
Meader cut her romance reader teeth on Maeve Binchy and Jilly Cooper
novels, with some Mills & Boon thrown in for variety. Give her tales about
brooding mill owners, oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron or a
fire hose, and she’s there. Now based in Chicago, she writes sexy contemporary
romance with alpha heroes and strong heroines who can match their men quip for
quip.
