Forgot to Say Goodbye ~ S L Scott ~ New Release & Review

 Forgot to Say Goodbye

 Release Date: October 19, 2023

Audible -

Noah Westcott should come with a warning: TOO HOT TO HANDLE!

He Falls First/Surprise Pregnancy/Office Romance/Enemies to Lovers/Second Chance

Noah Westcott should come with a warning: Too Hot to Handle!

The man is stunningly handsome with his embracing brown eyes and lips that make me want to kiss that smirk right off his face.

How could I resist?

Spoiler: I didn’t.

That was my first mistake.

I blame him for the second. It should have been easy and fun. No strings attached. No feelings. As if he commanded it like he did me in the bedroom, I did exactly what I said I wouldn’t. I fell for him.

Two years later, the same man walks into my life. Again. A lot has changed. Not his devastating good looks, or that smug grin, but for me everything.

Now that Noah’s back—in my office and hanging around after hours—I can’t get distracted. I must protect my secret—the one who calls me Mommy.

What happens when a one night stand turns into the best thing that ever happened to you?
Find out with Olivia (Liv) and Noah as they reconnect two years after an unforgettable night!

There is a lot going on here - there is family drama, office drama, enemies (or are they) to lovers, and a couple of other surprises along the way. Ms Scott does an excellent job of weaving all of these things together for a story that I didn’t want to leave.

We’ve met Noah before - as a secondary character in his brother’s stories, so it was fun to see a more grown up Noah take center stage. He’s easy to like and easy to root for as he and Liv reconnect. She is a new character and a bit harder to get a read on, but I couldn’t help like her as the layers were peeled back.

I definitely appreciated the way Ms Scott handled this feel good story once our characters got through the first rough patches. I especially liked how the conflict was external to their interactions and not the most obvious path to take.

If I liked the story so much, why only 4 stars? To be honest, it was a series of small things. Most fall under personal preference so I won’t list them here - they really were just little issues that I found briefly distracting.

Overall, You Forgot to Say Goodbye is an excellent addition to the Westcott family stories. This is a sequential stand alone, so if you haven’t been reading in order there will be spoilers. I am curious to see if baby sister, Marina, will have a story.

Review Round Up ~ October 16

New(er) Releases:

In Puck Yes, Ms Blakely returns us to the world of San Francisco hockey and the hunky players who have a thing for sharing. This book connects to previous stories but is a complete stand-alone.

We meet Hayes, Stefan, and Ivy in this fun, sexy adventure. All are interesting characters and I found myself enjoying and rooting for them. While their unusual relationship plays a big part in the story, there are also sweet moments and we see growth in them.

Puck Yes is a book you can take at face value, but goes deeper if you are willing to look a little bit. Definitely a winner on and off the ice.

I've been a John Grisham fan for a long time, ever since reading The Firm. I admit to getting away from some of his more recent work but I was thrilled to have the chance to read "the sequel" to The Firm when it came up on Net Galley. Now that I've finished The Exchange, I am really confused. I've read the book and am really trying to understand the point.

We know going in that Mitch and Abby McDeere are at the center of The Exchange and are expecting an action-packed episode of intrigue similar to what happened in Memphis 15 years before. What is delivered is a bit disjointed and reads more like a travel diary than a legal thriller. Told from the third person point of view, there is a dispassionate element that makes it hard to connect to the characters. The sequence of events also leaves the reader a bit at a loss. There is a thriller/travel element that might play out well in a screenplay, but not on the written page. The amount of bouncing from place to place is distracting and a bit boring.

The biggest issue for me though - I reached the end of the book and really didn't know what had been accomplished or what the overall point of the story was. I understand the sequence of events and what was accomplished at the surface level, but what is the deeper meaning? What wrong was righted or what was contributed to the greater good?

“Heart-searing, sensual, and life affirming.” ―EMILY HENRY, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Soledad Barnes has her life all planned out. Because, of course, she does. She plans everything. She designs everything. She fixes everything. She’s a domestic goddess who's never met a party she couldn't host or a charge she couldn't lead. The one with all the answers and the perfect vinaigrette for that summer salad. But none of her varied talents can save her when catastrophe strikes, and the life she built with the man who was supposed to be her forever, goes poof in a cloud of betrayal and disillusion.

But there is no time to pout or sulk, or even grieve the life she lost. She's too busy keeping a roof over her daughters' heads and food on the table. And in the process of saving them all, Soledad rediscovers herself. From the ashes of a life burned to the ground, something bold and new can rise.

But then an unlikely man enters the picture—the forbidden one, the one she shouldn't want but can't seem to resist. She's lost it all before and refuses to repeat her mistakes. Can she trust him? Can she trust herself?

After all she's lost . . .and found . . .can she be brave enough to make room for what could be?

Broken Dreams ~ Corinne Michaels ~ Cover Reveal

Corinne Michaels has revealed the gorgeous covers for Broken Dreams!

Releasing: December 1, 2023

Cover Designer: Sommer Stein

Photographer: Michelle Lancaster

Model: Chad Hurst

What could possibly go wrong fake dating the gorgeous single dad in a small town?

The answer, you fall for him.

It started out perfect. Grady Whitlock needed a plus one for his business meetings, and I needed a date for a wedding.

We had a plan. It was a good one.

Until it wasn’t.

I was not supposed to have feelings for him. I was not going to let my heart race when his soulful blue eyes stared into mine. No way should I have noticed his smile or the dimple on his right cheek or his strong arms when he held me close. I especially wasn’t going to melt when I saw him play with my daughter.

Most of all I was not going to sleep with him.

Nope. None of that was supposed to happen, but it does.

Now I find myself dreaming of him every night. Wishing we were really a couple because the way he kisses me doesn’t feel as if it’s pretend.

But we’ve both watched our dreams shatter, and I can’t handle another broken heart.
