Beautiful Mistake ~ Vi Keeland

The #1 New York Times Bestselling author Vi Keeland is back with a brand new standalone, Beautiful Mistake releasing on July 17th and we have the amazing cover for you today!

Model: Lucas Barbosa Gil
Photographer: Chuando & Frey
Cover designer: Sommer Stein, Perfect Pear Creative
The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend--smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant. Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant. I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking. Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West. This was going to be interesting… ADD TO GOODREADS

Holy cow!
In Love My Way, we meet 22 year old Emerson as she is at a crossroads in life. To fully understand her story, We have to go back and see how she met and found her first "everything" at 10 and then at 17/18 when their relationship evolved.
This is a well written and emotional story. Emerson is a character that you want to just cuddle - even when some of older Emerson's choices don't make sense or make you want to scold her.
While we get to know Emerson's love interests, this is really her story. About over coming a hard childhood, finding the good, and then facing the unimaginable. The big question is, how do you deal with the outcome of tragedy when your true support system is so very small? This book has the mother of all curveballs - one that I didn't see coming at all - and made me love it that much more.
When you get ready to read Love My Way, make sure you have some free time. Once you get started, you won't be putting it down.

Only With Me ~ Kelly Elliot ~ New Release and Review

only-with-me_smashLife was great. I loved my bachelor life and working my dream job with the Colorado Springs SWAT team. That all changed the day I stepped into her bakery. Her smile swept me off my feet, and her panna cotta was heaven. Cue my very traditional Greek family. Then all hell broke loose. The woman I was falling in love with was Italian, and my mother was hell-bent on proving to the world she was the better cook. If my meddling family wasn’t bad enough, for the last six years Gabi had been on the run from a past she tried desperately to escape from. Between a beautiful woman on the run, and a crazy family constantly in my business, would I be able to show her I’m the only one who can keep her safe … or will her past steal her away from me?

My eyes swung over to look at my mother standing there with my aunt Maria and Aunt Agnes. “Shit,” I whispered. “Oh God. This is not happening. This is it!” Gabi exclaimed as she covered her mouth. I placed my hands on her shoulders and leaned in closer. In a whispered voice, I asked, “What is wrong?” Her eyes met mine. “This is her challenge! I thought it was that day in the bakery. That was a merely a test! She’s here to take me down!” I laughed. “My mother is not here to take you down.” She slowly shook her head and asked, “How did she know?” Then we both turned to look at Liza. She took a step away. “You didn’t.” Liza’s eyes were everywhere. Me, my mother, back to Gabi, back to my mother. “I might have mentioned it that day in the bakery when she was there. But she saw the registration form and asked if you had entered! I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to say.” “Nicholaus, don’t be rude. Introduce your Gabriella to your Aunt Maria and Aunt Agnes.” Gabi took in a slow deep breath before turning and facing my mother and aunts. With my hand on her back, we walked closer. “Mama, this is a surprise to see you here.” She looked taken aback. “Why? I love to cook, this is a cooking competition. Why wouldn’t I be here?” “Because you’ve never entered one before.” The three of them laughed. “Please. Your mama has won more cooking competitions than anyone in this room.” Gabi swayed, and I tightened my grip on her. When my mother turned to look at Gabi, she wore a wide smile. “So, with you being a part of our family, I want to make sure you come in second so I’ve brought you some help.” Oh for shits sake. “Help?” Gabi asked with a strained voice. And before our eyes appeared my cousins Sophia and Angie, and just when I didn’t think it could get worse, cousin Maria walked up carrying a giant bag with some rat looking dog in it. “Um, I don’t think you can have a dog in here,” Liza said. Everyone turned and looked at cousin Maria. “Are you shitting me? I don’t go anywhere without my Nikky.” “Gabriella, this is Aunt Maria and Aunt Agnes.” Gabi reached her hand out to theirs. “Ahh! You made it!” my mother called out as her best friend came walking up. I couldn’t help but groan. “Gabriella, this is my very dear friend, Maria.” I didn’t think Gabi could look any more confused. “Oh, um, another Maria! That’s a lot of Maria’s under one roof.” They all stared at her like they didn’t get it. They fucking got it. “All right, well now that the gang is here, Mama you should be heading on over to your station.” “You’re not coming over there with me?” Gabi’s head jerked to the side to look at me. Oh shit. What the hell do I do? I did the only thing I knew to do. I looked for guidance from Liza. My eyes were wide as she motioned to Gabi. Right. Right. I needed to stay with Gabi. “Well, Mama, I was planning on helping Gabi and being here for moral support with this being her first competition and all.” Gabi glared at me. Shit, what did I do now? Then my mother turned back to Gabi. “First, huh?” My heart dropped in my chest. That’s why Gabi shot me a dirty look. “Well, I better let you get going then. Good luck.” With a full-on smile, Gabi nodded. “Thanks! You too. And may the best cook win.” Tossing her head back and laughing before looking back at Gabi, my mother said, “Oh, I will.”

Gabi has secrets and Nic has an overbearing mother who insists that he marry a good Greek girl. They are the last person the other should fall for, but sparks fly the second they meet.
Both Gabi and Nic are well written characters that are easy to like and root for. The secondary cast, especially Nic's family add a strong humor element to the story.
This is a fast paced story and Gabi's secrets add suspense and create an organic conflict that is unique.
I haven't read a lot by this author, but this humor filled, romantic outing had me wanting more.

This was a really cute story..... based on misunderstandings, misconceptions, crazy life plans and the idea that life gives you want you need when you aren't looking.
Definitely well written and enjoyable - this is a book that I wanted to give a full 4 stars, but.... it seemed a little on the long side.
This is a book that the end was kind of a given, the only real questions being how would they resolve the different view points on their relationship. I genuinely liked both Cord and Dana, but there was more than one point when I could have skipped sections because they felt a bit repetitive.
Ms. Mabie is an author I haven't read much of and this made me curious to read more of her work!

The Rebellion ~S.L Scott

Title: The Rebellion
Series: Hard to Resist #5
Author: S.L. Scott
Genre: STANDALONE Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 18, 2017

Blurb

I met my muse at fifteen. I’d just gotten busted for smoking behind the school gymnasium. She inspired me with her laugh and nonjudgmental attitude and, before I knew it, we were inseparable. Then I left to pursue my rock star dreams—dreams she encouraged.

I got over Jaymes Grenier no problem. I never think about that little bow at the top of her pink lips, or the way her green eyes admired mine. Nope, I barely recall the way she fit so perfectly in my arms when I held her at night. The sweet way she would whisper she loved me has long faded from memory.

These are the lies I regularly tell myself in hopes of believing them one day. Yeah, I was told I’d get over my first love.

I didn’t.

Derrick Masters marked me the moment we met back in ninth grade. He called me over—all bravado and bad boy mystery wrapped in a James Dean-esque package. Dark hair and blue eyes with a rebel without a cause charisma. He was everything I was warned about, but I couldn’t resist. I was his from that moment on.

His career took off almost as soon as he did. I knew it would. I just thought I would be beside him as his partner in crime, best friend, and lover. That’s what we had always been … before he left me behind to fend for myself.

Fend? Fight is more like it.

I’ve been fighting ever since.

Fighting for survival.

Fighting for a better life in a world determined to keep me down.

I don’t have the luxury of letting my head live in the lure of La La Land. His dreams may have come true, but mine were extinguished. These days I fight for something bigger than me, bigger than we were ever meant to be.

When his dreams come crashing back into my reality, is this a second chance at that fairy tale ending or another heartbreak in the making?

Trailer

Excerpt

On the front porch, leaning against the wood column in all his newfound glory, stands the most breathtaking man I’ve ever seen. As a teenager, I thought he was the best-looking boy I’d ever seen, and based on how I’m struggling to breathe just from looking at him now, I think he still holds the title. But now he’s a man.
Ace is talking about what some kid named Shiloh got in trouble for today at school, but I’m still staring at Derrick Masters.
Derrick Masters.
My very own Perseus, though right now I’m thinking he was more my Achilles heel in the grand scheme of things.
Derrick Masters is standing on my mother’s front porch like he belongs there. A smile that shines like the star he’s become appears and he waves. Not sure if it was the grin on his face or the wave that sends me tripping flat on my face into the grassy lawn, but I’m cursing the curb when I lift up and look right into the dark blue eyes I’ve tried to despise.
“Are you okay?” he asks, trying to help me up. His voice is deep, the timbre the same one that always made my heart beat a little faster. It’s not that thought that runs through my mind. It’s his hands on me, grappling to help me to my feet.
He’s touching me.
Derrick Masters is touching me and I consider lying there longer just to savor the feel of his calloused fingers again. Ace tugs at my ankle like that will help me up. “Mommy, you fell.”
Mommy.
Mommy.
Derrick knows I’m a mommy.
Oh my God. What does he think?
Does he hate me? Disappointed in me? Happy for me? Or not care at all?
I would care if I found out he has kids.
Maybe he already knew . . .
Maybe I’ll just lie here as long as I can until he goes away.
Ace lies down next to me and rests his face on my hand. Looking at me with wide eyes, he asks, “Are we playing a game? This is fun.”
“Yes, I quite like it here.”
I hear Derrick chuckling just above me, enough to feel his warmth covering my body like sunshine as I lie in the cool grass. I might be mistaken but it sounds like he’s behind me now. On the ground with me.
Ace’s eyes look over my head. “My friend is here too.” He giggles. “See? Right there.”
Lying like a dead fish, I smile at my cute son not quite ready to face Derrick Masters. “What’s your new friend’s name?”
“Derrick. He plays a guitar like you, Mommy.”
After a tap on the back, Ace’s new friend speaks, “Hi.”
I miss Derrick’s hands on me, even if it was just helping me up. Ace is a ball of laughter and gets up. I watch until he runs behind me. “I’m here now. We’re all here. This is fun. Oh look, the moon.”
I can’t avoid him forever and the grass is grounding, literally, and settles my anxiety over just this kind of thing happening. I’ve embarrassed myself and he’s found out I’m a mother in the course of one sexy smile and a wave. I shake my head and close my eyes annoyed with myself for acting so foolishly in front of him. He was once my everything. When I roll onto my back, the top of our hands meet in an innocent touch that neither of us bothers to retreat. Finally building enough nerve, I turn my head and look straight into his eyes again. “Hi,” I whisper.
That devastatingly charming smile reappears, and he says, “It’s good to see you, Jaymes.”

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

If I had to use just a few words to describe Stand, they would have to be: devotion, self forgiveness, heartache, and love.
Zee and Alexis are both individuals that have dedicated themselves to the good of others - to their own detriment at times. It seemed ordained that they would find each other and go on the journey that they did.
Their relationship can easily be compared to a yo-yo or a rollercoaster, so don't go into this if you aren't in the mood for angst.

I enjoyed Stand and getting to read Zee and Alexis's story, but I think the fact that I have missed several of the books in the series hindered some of that enjoyment for me. Since this is the last book in the series, the fellow members of Sunder appear in this a lot and without having read all of their stories, I occasionally felt like I was missing a few things.

Excerpt

It’s impossible not to smile that he remembered my drink of choice. It’s also hopeless to pretend that the boyish grin he’s flipping me doesn’t melt away some of the ice around my heart.
Still, I don’t want to play nice.
“I already had coffee today. But thank you,” I say politely.
“No offense, but you are kind of irritable this morning. Maybe you could use another shot of caffeine.”
“You think I’m irritable now? Keep it up.”
“You never were a morning person,” he laughs. “Some things never change.”
“And some things do,” I point out, giving him a look. “Seriously, why are you here?”
“I have business with Violet. Remember?”
“That’s bullshit anyway, but she’s not here. You’ll have to come back later.”
“Is that an invitation?” he laughs.
“Did it sound like one?” My arms cross over my chest and I’m aware it makes my boobs look bigger. As his eyes drop and catch the top of my cleavage, his gaze burns a trail on the ascent back up to my eyes.
Satisfaction paints a smug look on my face and desire burns in the apex of my thighs. As discreetly as possible, I clench my legs together to quell a bit of the ache that’s beginning to throb under his observation.
When our gazes meet, his is crackling. He lifts a single brow. “I damn sure hope that’s an offer to come. If it’s not, we have a problem on our hands.”
“No, you have a problem on your hands,” I say, shrugging. “It has nothing to do with me.”
“It could.”

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Author

This is a solid entry in the Landry family series and as much as I liked Ford and Ellie, this really felt like a transitional story to me.
In Swear, we see Ford reunite with his high school girl friend Ellie after a 10 year separation. I loved that Ellie initially stood up and tried to resist, but i felt like she really could have made Ford work a little harder/explain a little bit more about why he left true way he did.
Big chunks of Swear are spent with Ford's siblings- and while they are important to him and therefore the story, it felt like a little too much time was spent catching up with the brothers already in love and the sister whose book is next.
I really wanted more Ford and Ellie time!
