Kiss Me - Susan Mallery - New Release

New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery creates the small-town destination for romance in charming Fool's Gold, California—where a loner cowboy finds the one woman who can capture his heart... After Phoebe Kitzke's kind heart gets her suspended from her job in LA, she swears off doing favors—until her best friend begs for help on the family ranch in Fool's Gold. Unfortunately, sexy cowboy Zane Nicholson isn't exactly thrilled by the city girl's arrival. Thanks to his brother's latest scheme, Zane has been roped into taking tourists on a cattle drive. What Phoebe knows about ranching wouldn't fill his hat, but her laughter is so captivating that even his animals fall for her. One slip of his legendary control leads to a passionate kiss, but she's exactly the kind of woman a single-minded loner needs to avoid. In his arms, Phoebe discovers she's a country girl at heart. Yet no matter how much the small town feels like home, she can't stay unless Zane loves her, too…but is this cowboy interested in forever?

In Kiss Me, Susan Mallery takes us back to Fools Gold, CA this time to meet rancher, Zane Nicholson. Zane has appeared in other Fools Gold books, but he is still pretty much an enigma. It was a lot of fun getting to know him through the course of the story.
We also meet Phoebe. She is friends with Zane’s former step sibling, Maya, and comes to the Nicholson Ranch to escape the trouble in her life back in L.A. Phoebe is incredibly sweet and a little naïve, she definitely leads with her heart.
Phoebe’s view of the world and her outsiders view point, helps shed a lot of light on what is going on with Zane and it helps make him much more likeable. The overall story in Kiss Me, is very sweet. Several of the characters experience heartwarming personal growth and you get a front row seat for these forming relationships.
Zane and Phoebe’s relationship seems to move more quickly than I would have expected, but it worked for them and the story being told. I am curious to see more of them in future Fools Gold books.
Kiss Me is a solid entry in the series, but other than Edie and Gladys, you don’t see too much of the Fools Gold community. If you are new to Fools Gold, this book would definitely be a good place to start. If you have come to visit before, you will enjoy the visit and getting to know a little more about the ranches around the town.

~ Excerpt ~
He looked at me and extended his hand. "We have to dance. Bride's orders."
I blew out an exasperated sigh, my hand hovering over his. Electricity literally snapped between us. "Well, if the bride says, then I guess I'll do as I'm told."
Kade's face cracked a smug smile, as if to say 'oh, you'll do as you’re told, all right,' and his hand curled around mine. The electricity ran up my arm, causing me to shudder.
Knock it off. I chastised myself for letting him get to me.
The other groomsmen found their bridesmaids, and we all made our way to the checkered dance floor. Livy looked so pleased with herself; I shot her a discreet scowl. She was the only person who knew about my brief history with Kade Ford, and that was only because she tricked it out of me after one too many tequilas last year.
Kade wrapped me in his strong arms and started swaying us to the music. "You look so damn fuckable in that dress."
My head snapped up to meet his hooded stare. He looked like he wanted to devour me. Shit, Jameson... PULL IT TOGETHER. I gave Kade my best fake smile and said, "Does that line actually work, Ford? Because I've heard better."
The smug smile he was wearing slowly transformed into a lazy grin only making him sexier—if that was possible. He dipped his head into the crook of my neck and whispered against my skin, "Maybe, but have you ever had better?"
The guy was a walking, talking jerk. I'd known some douches in my time, but Kade Ford was—and always would be—douche canoe number one. The kind of douche that left a mark, but a douche nonetheless.

Meet the Author - Isabelle Richards

Today we are chatting with one of my favorite new authors of 2015, Isabelle Richards.
Welcome Isabelle!
Published Work:
When Fates Collide Series (When Fates Collide, When Fate Isn’t Enough, When Fates Align Hate To Love You, Love To Hate You (I should really come up with a series title for these two!)
What are you working on now?
At this very moment, I’m working on two manuscripts. I’m rewriting the end of Love to Hate You and I’m also reworking the beginning of a book that is currently untitled that will release in December. And I’m writing bonus chapters to go in the Fates Box set
Do you get to write full time or do you also have a "day" job?
I work as an advocate for persons with disabilities.
Favorite part of being an author?
There are so many things! Meeting people I would never otherwise have had the privilege to meet. I LOVE hearing what people think as they are reading my books. But I think the very best part is hearing from readers that my book helped them in some way. I write romance, so I never expected my books would change anyone’s life or anything. But so many people have told me that they dove into my book during a particularly challenging time in their life and it gave them respite from all the troubles in their life. For a few hours, they could escape it all and that little bit of downtime gave them the strength to keep going. Hearing that meant the world to me.
Scariest part of being an author?
The scariest part for me is the fear I won’t break even. Publishing is very expensive. I know people think self-publishing must be cheap, but to do it right can be costly. My family has invested a lot in me and had to sacrifice so that I can explore this dream. I would be devastated if I can’t at least break even. Not so much because of the financial impact, but I’d feel like I let them down.
Who are your favorites to read?
OMG Too many to list!! When I get the chance to read, I devour books and I read all genres. I read everything I can get my hands on in contemporary romance. I’m a huge paranormal reader, and suspense/thrillers, legal dramas, non-fiction.
If you had $1 Million to giveaway, what would you do with the money?
I would divvy the money up in a few ways. I’d give part of it to local organizations that work with families with special needs. The people that are on the front lines every day trying to make the lives better for persons with disabilities and their care givers. A portion of those funds would go to parent education. I’d also create a scholarship fund to help teachers get their masters in special education. And finally, I’d give a portion of the funds toward a work force development initiative that would teach employers about hiring and working with persons with disabilities. So many employers are afraid to hire a person with a disability simply out of fear of not being able to communicate and manage him or her. With more education those fears can be eliminated.
One Piece of advise to an aspiring writer:
Write every day. Even if you think its crap. The only way you’ll get better is by working on your craft. Someone may be inherently a good writer, but that’s just the starting point. Just like with any other skill, if you challenge yourself, push yourself, and nurture those innate abilities, you have no idea how far you can go. Find an editor your trust and listen to him/her. The editor’s job is to make your work better. To help sand down the rough edges and pullout the beauty that lies beneath. A good editor won’t try to change the work, only help make the work better. The editing process can be emotional, but if you check your ego at the door and focus on bringing the work to higher level, your story and characters will really come to life. And since I’m on my soap box, one last thing, all feedback is good feedback. Even the worst review could be the most helpful because you can see areas you can work on. Don’t let it get you down, let it boost you up and push you to make your next story better.

His Diamond Queen - Lena Hart

In this seductive series, four lives collide in a riveting tale of secrets, deception, betrayal, and revenge...and this story is about... the forbidden gem... Rachelle Silva is used to getting what she wants. As the beloved secret daughter of a ruthless crime boss, she wants for nothing--except freedom from her overprotective father. But when her identity is compromised and her life is threatened, Rachelle is given the one thing she's always hated most: an escort. Former fighter Jay Price stays connected with Vegas's criminal underbelly, and for the right price he'll take on any job. But when he's hired to babysit self-centered "princess" Rachelle, he finds himself captivated by the beautiful, spoiled socialite--and annoyed by his sudden attraction to her. Confused by her own attraction to the tattooed "thug," Rachelle sets out to make Jay as aware of her as she is of him. Unfortunately the threats to her life are all too real, and Jay is forced to bring her into "his world" until the threat is...dealt with. But he has an even bigger fight on his hands--his desire for the one woman he's forbidden to have.

Review Copy provided by Reading Deals

Rachelle is a spoiled mobster’s daughter who has been called home to Vegas by her protective father. Threats against him have led him to hire Jay to protect his little “diamond.”
Rachelle and Jay are like oil and water to begin with and it’s hard to like either of them at first. A night out leads them to finally admit that they are attracted to each other, but they insist on egging each other on. After Jay saves Rachelle from a kidnapping attempt, we finally begin to see them both act like real people and develop a relationship. As much as I didn’t like early Rachelle and Jay, I really liked them as a couple.
The author does a great job of moving the story along in both the romance and suspense departments. Both story lines are interesting and entertaining. One of the things I liked most was how Rachelle and Jay seemed to bring out the best of each other and help each other grow.
Part of me really wanted this to be a 4 star book, but I had a couple of big issues. One – the complete dismissal of safe sex. In all the times the author depicted Rachelle and Jay being intimate, there is only one mention of a condom and that is after they have been together. Two – editing issues. None are big, but there are several small misspellings and grammar issues that caught my attention and distracted from the story.
Overall, a good story and I would be interested in reading other work by this author.

Prologue

December 2012
It’s been three months since my life changed in the blink of an eye. I was planning a wedding to the most amazing man – a man who I already thought I’d lost once. Fortunately, he hadn’t given up on us and he had found me again. In the short time we were together, he taught me to trust – to trust in love, to trust in him and to trust in us.
I was an up-and-coming, government editor at the Washington Post – partly because of Rich and partly because of my hard work, perseverance and dedication. I loved my job. It was my dream come true.
Rich had also given me the best gift possible when I found out that I was pregnant. At the time, I didn’t know I even wanted children of my own. It wasn’t really something I thought too much about. I was over thirty and hadn’t been in a committed relationship for a number of years, but once I saw those two little pink lines – I wanted nothing more than to be a mom.
We were planning a Christmas wedding. I knew I would be showing by then, but I had always dreamt of getting married surrounded by glowing evergreens. In fact, Rich and his best man, Blake, had already used their connections and secured the Weather Room on the sixty-seventh floor of Rockefeller Center. Typically, the room was only available from January through mid-November, but Rich and Blake were quite a team and once they batted their eyelashes a few times, the event coordinator caved and allowed us to rent the private space for December 15.
It would have been beautiful, overlooking the magical tree that Rich had taken me to a year earlier. I was so stubborn at that point. If only I had opened my heart to him then, maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here alone now – on the same day that was supposed to be the happiest day of my life.
Just as the first of the day’s tears started trickling down my cheeks, I heard a light knocking on my door. Seriously, I feel like I’d been crying since that day in September. I didn’t think it was possible to have so many tears stored in the human body. I was hoping that eventually they would just dry up, but I was starting to believe that would never happen.
Rising from the couch, I padded my way to the front door. Looking out the peephole, I saw Cassidy waving at me from the other side. I was relieved to know I wouldn’t have to spend the afternoon alone. Earlier, I had insisted that my father go out for the afternoon even though he reassured me time and again that he would cancel his plans.
I had moved back to Michigan right before Thanksgiving. I tried to make it work in Washington D.C. and at the Post, but it was just too difficult. The memories, idle curiosity and constant condolences proved to be too much. I knew everyone meant well, but I just needed to grieve my loss on my own.
I opened the door to my best friend’s outstretched arms.
“Awww, honey, you should have called me earlier. I would’ve been here hours ago,” she said, as I buried my head in her chest.
“This was supposed to be the happiest day of my life, Cass. What happened? Why did I let this happen?”
“It’ll get easier, Brookie – you’ll see,” she added reassuringly, as she ran her fingers through my tangled hair. “Why don’t we pop in a movie – I just so happened to grab Magic Mike out of the Redbox on my way over,” she said with a wink. “If Matthew McConaughey’s voice alone can’t make you ‘O’ then we have more serious issues than I thought.”
“Ohmigod, I think you have officially lost your damn mind,” I giggled. “But, thank you. You always seem to know what I need. And, a naked Channing Tatum is just what the doctor ordered.”
Just as I was setting a bowl of popcorn on the table and getting myself comfy on the couch, my phone rang. I startled from the sudden noise and reached out for it. Looking at the caller ID, I just stared at it for a few more rings.
“Cass, you need to answer it. I just can’t take this right now – especially not today.”

Cowboy, Remind Me - Danita Cahill

FAIRY TALE WEDDING... Leah Poole never wanted a fairy-tale wedding, so when she finds herself smack dab in the midst of planning her own big, over-the-top wedding she starts to shut down. Nothing feels right. She can’t even find a suitable wedding dress. HE LOVES ME...HE LOVES ME NOT... Leah loves her fiancé, Colton Rafferty. She’s been fond of him since they played together as children. Leah can’t believe he’s chosen her to spend his life with – Colton is a handsome, successful, wealthy businessman, while Leah’s a full-figured, low-income, hometown cowgirl. But as Colton and Leah’s wedding date draws nearer, it feels less and less like they’re a match made in heaven, and more and more like they’re a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces. THE COWBOY BROTHER… Colton’s brother, Clay, is a rodeo cowboy, an Oregon ranch hand, and a temporary maintenance man at Pine Creek, Montana’s grand old Milton Motel – the venue where Leah and Colton plan to exchange their vows. Bumping into Clay over and over surfaces a flood of buried memories, and Leah starts questioning herself. Is she marrying the right brother? And will she figure out the answer before she’s exchanged vows with the wrong man?

Elizabeth's Review

Review copy provided by ReadingDeals.com

What would you do if you were engaged and trying to plan a wedding you have no interest it? That is the situation of heroine, Leah, finds herself in.
Leah was orphaned at 18 when she and her parents were in a horrible care accident. The Leah who emerged from the accident was not the same person she was before. The new Leah is terribly insecure and has memory issues from PTSD. The beginning of Cowboy, Remind Me find Leah working with her two best friends to plan the wedding her fiancé wants, even though nothing feels right to her.
This is a well written book and I could understand Leah, but I had a hard time connecting with her. It was obvious from the very beginning that she had zero desire to actually plan her own wedding. She was letting her friends, one of whom was her future sister-in-law, do all of the work. The portrayal of Colton, Leah’s finance, made it very clear that these two were not headed for happy ever after.
When Clay, Colton’s brother returns to town, the sparks between him and Leah just confirm how wrong it is that she is planning to marry Colton. As the story moves along, we see Leah struggle and she finally makes a difficult decision. When Leah reaches this point, my respect for her ramps up.
As I learned more about Leah, why she made some of the choices she did made more sense, but it was still difficult to relate to her. It was also difficult to like her friend Marnie, but I wonder if some of that was because the book is part of a series and there is information I didn’t have. It seemed as if there might be backstory I was unaware of.
This was a good book, but I didn’t love it.

Meet The Author - J.C. Hannigan

We would like to welcome author J.C. Hannigan to our debut "Meet the Author" feature. We are hoping to bring some of our wonderful author friends in to say hello on occasion. Hopefully, you enjoy hearing from them as much as we all enjoy their work.

Welcome J.C.!

Name: J.C. Hannigan

Published Work:
Harlow Jones has a troubled past, and a questionable future. Surrounded by death, tragedy, and intrigue, she is forced to mature long before her time. Plagued by anxiety and depression, she hides her inner turmoil with spite and sarcasm. Her thick skin is impenetrable…or so she thought. Until she becomes involved with her grade twelve English teacher. In this exclusive entry into the new adult genre, with raw style that is as dark as it is poignant, Collide presents the ultimate choice: forbidden love or doing the right thing.
Jax Walker is a hard man to resist. He’s tall, dark, and delicious. Harlow didn’t plan on falling for another, with her heart still stuck on Iain. But it’s so hard with him gone. And she’s been aching since they last touched. Two whole years of silent wondering; of desperate sleepless longing. Fate, however, may have other plans. Just as Harlow’s ready to open herself to new love, her whole world is pulled into a twisting and painful spiral. In this new adult novel, readers are consumed by the collision of past and present. Raw and dark, this emotional minefield is the perfect second book in the continuing story of Harlow Jones.
CONSUMED is rereleasing July 1st through Booktrope!
What are you working on now?
I’ve got a lot going on right now – on July 1st, CONSUMED is being re-released through Booktrope. It’ll have a new look and be available in paperback for the first time ever!
In September, the first book in a new, two-part series called The Damaged Series is releasing. The first book in this new series is called DAMAGED GOODS. I’ve also finished writing the sequel – RECKLESS ABANDON. RECKLESS ABANDON will release in early 2016.
I’ve also finished the third and final book in the Collide series – COLLATERAL, also releasing in 2016. I’m working on a couple of new projects as well, all in the new adult romance genre.
Do you get to write full time or do you have a "day" job?
I am currently at stay-at-home mom, so I balance that between writing. Once my youngest goes off to school in September I will be writing full time!
Favorite part of being an author?
Getting to write! I LOVE writing and have loved writing since I was a little kid!
Scariest part of being an author?
Publishing my work! It’s a lot like striping naked – LOL. I put so much of my heart and soul into my works, and having other people read that can be REALLY intimidating.
Who are your favorites to read?
J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series is always at the top of my list. I love anything written by Ginger Scott, K.A. Tucker, and Whitney Barbetti. I’ve discovered some new favorites too – like Karla Sorensen. Can’t wait to read her future works!
If you had $1 Million to giveaway, what would you do with the money?
I would give back to a lot of charities, actually. Local dog rescues, Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, local food banks and I’d want to help the homeless community as well. There is so much suffering in the world that I’d want to focus my attention on the causes that are near me.
One piece of advise to an aspiring writer?
Keep writing! Even when it’s scary or difficult.

In a Buckhorn Summer, Lori Foster takes us back to Buckhorn, KY to catch up with our favorite family. The set includes to novellas and both are perfect summer reads.
The first story focuses on Lisa and Gray. They had a one night stand in Chicago and a month later they find themselves reunited in her hometown of Buckhorn. This is a sweet story following them as they begin to know each other and establish a real relationship versus just sexual chemistry.
The second novella follows Garrett and Zoey. They had mutual crushes on each other in high school, but never acted on it. She left town amid a scandal involving her boyfriend and has returned to town to help her mother and start her own business. I loved how Garrett kept finding ways to be around Zoey and their flirty behavior that was just too darn cute.
Both novellas are pretty light, but they are complete and tell wonderful stories. These are part of the Buckhorn series and characters from other books are present, but you don’t have to have read the series to appreciate these stories.

One Wish - Robyn Carr

Today's review is a book I borrowed from the library that was originally published in February 2015. Robyn Carr is an "Auto Read" author for me.
Grace Dillon was a champion figure skater until she moved to Thunder Point to escape the ruthless world of fame and competition. And though she's proud of the quiet, self-sufficient life she's created running a successful flower shop, she knows something is missing. Her life could use a little excitement. In a community where there are few eligible singles, high school teacher Troy Headly appoints himself Grace's fun coach. When he suggests a little companionship with no strings attached, Grace is eager to take him up on his offer, and the two enjoy…getting to know each other. But things get complicated when Grace's past catches up with her, and she knows that's not what Troy signed up for. Faced with losing her, Troy realizes Grace is more than just a friend with benefits. He's determined to help her fight for the life she always wished for but never believed she could have—and maybe they can find real love along the way.

Robyn Carr takes us back to Thunder Point to spend time with Grace and Troy and catch up with a few of our other series favorites.
We have met both Grace and Troy previously, mainly in The Homecoming as they were both connected with Iris. In One Wish, we get to know both a little bit better as they move from casual acquaintances to friends to lovers. The transition in their relationship takes place over time, but the author does an excellent job of advancing the story and the time line so that you don’t feel like things are dragging out. The relationship feels like a natural progression and is very relatable.
Grace finds out that her mother, whom she was estranged from, is ill and Troy proves what a great guy he is by being with her and she deals with both the relationship and the illness. They have the typical curve balls when a couple of things come out about Grace’s family and an unexpected change to their relationship. How both handled the curve balls also seemed very understandable and caused me to respect both of them just a little bit more.
To be honest, I had a really hard time deciding how to rate this book. It is a totally solid entry in a great series, but it didn’t really pull me in and make me want to stay like other books in the series and by this author have. The main characters and their relationship, while completely relatable, seemed a little flat to me. I can’t put my finger on why exactly, but I just didn’t click as well with this particular story. I still love Thunder Point and am looking forward to coming back to see what happens next.

When You Are Mine by Kennedy Ryan

Celebrating the anniversary of When You Are Mine's Debut! Happy Debutversary to Kennedy Ryan
Forever is a heartbeat away . . . Kerris Moreton knows how to make things work. Bounced from foster home to foster home as a kid, she adapted; when opportunity arose, she thrived. Now, about to open her own business and accept a marriage proposal, Kerris is ready to build the life she's always wanted. The only thing missing? A passionate connection with her would-be fiancé, Cam. Kerris wants to believe that sparks are overrated-until Walsh Bennett lights her up like the Fourth of July. . . . but what about love? As one of the East Coast's most eligible bachelors, Walsh enjoys financial independence, fulfilling work with his family's nonprofit, and plenty of female attention. But lately he's been distracted by the one woman he can't have. Lovely to look at and even sweeter to know, Kerris is the soul mate Walsh never thought he would find. The problem is, his best friend found her first . . .

I’ve been hearing about Kennedy Ryan for a while and have always heard good things about her books. I had them on my “Buy these when they go on sale” list, but that hasn’t happened. When the opportunity to participate in the “Debutversary” for When You Are Mine, the first book in her Bennett series, came up I had to jump at the chance.
In When You Are Mine, we meet Walsh just as he falls into insta-lust with a complete stranger as he watches her help someone out. He discovers later that his mystery girl is actually his best friend’s girlfriend. As the story moves forward, we discover that Kerris is attracted to Walsh as well, but she doesn’t believe they’d work out. She sees a future with, Cam, the best friend. I don’t want to give anything away if you haven’t read the book, but let’s just say that things don’t go as smoothly as anyone would hope.
I am normally not a fan of the love triangle, but the Walsh/Kerris/Cam triangle is more of an unrequited love. Walsh goes out of way to avoid being with Cam and Kerris and she repeatedly confirms her choice. What makes the situation so difficult is that most everyone around them knows the truth. Throughout the book, I respected Walsh. He recognized his feelings, but also realized how they would impact others and tried to avoid them. I found myself frustrated with Kerris. I understood where she was coming from, but I could not relate to the idea of moving forward with a relationship when there is such a big secret at the heart of it. I’m still not sure how I feel about Cam. On one hand, he’s a great guy who deserves to be happy. On the other, part of me can’t help but wonder how much he really loves Kerris and how much of it was having something he knew Walsh wanted.
Now that I have read When You Are Mine, part of me is really glad that I didn’t come across it when it first released. I think if I had, I would have been frustrated by how the book ends, but knowing that there are at least 2 more books gives me hope that there will have a happier resolution.

Adriana Locke's new book, The Connection, comes out next Friday (June 26th). We are proud to bring you the exciting cover reveal for her new work.
The Connection is a novella that bridges The Exception and The Perception, so you must read The Exception first, but The Perception can be read as a stand alone.

He was the bad boy she didn't need. She was the exception to his rules. When Jada Stanley and Cane Alexander met, it was lust at first site. As much as they fought it, it became so much more. Now that they've stopped fighting it and made their own rules, a little respite is needed. Las Vegas is the destination of choice. Despite what they say, not everything that happens in Vegas stays there.
