Jasper Vale ~ Devney Perry ~ New Release & Review

Jasper Vale by Devney Perry is now live!

Eloise Eden's pride and joy is her family's hotel in Quincy, Montana. Her lifelong dream is to own The Eloise Inn. All she has to do is prove to her parents that she's the epitome of responsible. That her days of being duped and making reckless decisions are history. She's so close she can taste it.

Until after one weekend in Las Vegas, she comes home married to a stranger.

Jasper must have put her under a spell with those soul-deep eyes because after a single night together, they woke up husband and wife. Her only hope is to keep this marriage a secret until it's annulled. Then she'll pretend it never happened.

Except Jasper begs her to stay married. To fake it for three months so she can accompany him to a wedding. Maybe she's lost her mind to agree. But her brooding husband seems desperate. It's only three months, right? Then she'll say goodbye to Jasper Vale, and with any luck, hello to her new hotel.

Jasper Vale returns us to the Eden family of Quincy, Montana for the story of Eloise Eden. Eloise is paired with Jasper - a friend of her brother-in-law- and a mysterious secondary character we’ve met in the series before.

As this is the 4th book in the Eden’s saga, we’ve seen Eloise before. These books are sequential, so we’ve seen her mature and grow up a little bit too. I loved the meet cute for these two - they’d been each others orbits, but when they finally came together it was unexpected and fun.

Ms Perry did a wonderful job pulling these two together as they tried to pull themselves apart. Eloise and Jasper each grew emotionally throughout the story and these evolutions had me liking them even more and rooting for them to find a happy ending.

The Eden family made for a fabulous secondary cast. If you have been following the series, you’ll be glad to see some character updates. Part of the wonderful story telling here is the way this large family (some of whom have stories still to tell) are woven organically into the Eloise and Jasper story.

This installment of the Eden’s was a lovely visit and I can’t wait to come back!

Eye Candy ~ Jessica Lemmon ~ New Release & Review

Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon is now live!

Don't trust lust at first sight. A "bubbly and sizzling rom-com" with a light love triangle and an absolutely swoon-worthy hero.

Every morning, a gorgeous mystery man jogs by Jacqueline Butler's office window, tempting her to break her "no dating" rule. She's good with ogling him from afar, but her best friend-slash-colleague Vince Carson suggests she do more than stare--he wants her to ask the runner out.

Vince knows his best friend Jackie better than she knows herself, and the last thing she needs is a date with a pompous, swole jackass. But after being friend-zoned big-time, Vince can't exactly ask her out himself. Encouraging her to pursue a guy who is all muscle and no substance will not only get Jackie off the bench, but will also open her eyes to the fact that Vince is the right man for her.

Vince takes Jackie on practice dates, promising to help her hone her skills, but can't resist edging the fake romance into reality. After a ridiculously epic kiss, Jackie sees a sexier side of Vince, and suddenly anything is possible...

Elizabeth's Review

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Author

This was a cute story where each of the main characters get a second chance at Love.
Jackie and Vince are coworkers whose friendship carries over into their off hours. She was his hand to hold as he got over his divorce, but nothing more until...
Enter the hot guy who runs by her office everyday....
what happened next led to some cringe- worthy moments for me (and is a big reason this isn't a full 4 star read-it's personal preference, but I think it could have been handled differently)
The appearance of running guy and the fallout leads to Vince and Jackie finally acting on their feelings. The story that follows is sometimes sweet, sometimes sad, and sometimes frustrating as they both have to face demons and insecurities from their prior marriages to get where they are going.
The overall secondary cast is pretty small, but we spend a lot of time with Vince's friend, Davis, so I would expect to see him featured soon.
Overall, a good read - maybe not one of Ms. Lemmon's strongest, but definitely worth the time.

Promise Me Always ~ A L Jackson ~ New Release

Promise Me Always by A.L. Jackson is now live!

I should know better than to let Tessa McDaniels pretend to be my fiancée.

I'm a dark, dangerous disaster who leaves destruction in his wake.

But when she offers to pretend to marry me to help me get my kids back, I can't refuse. They are the one thing I have left to fight for.

Milo Hendricks found me at my lowest.

Battered and broken by my ex with no place to call home. When he insists I stay at his cabin with him, he sparks the feelings I've tried to suppress.

He's only supposed to be my friend, but every time he comes in the room, he makes my knees weak.

This gorgeous, tatted, mountain-of-a-man who's riddled with secrets.

Tessa is everything I crave but can't have.

I shouldn't touch her.

Shouldn't make it real.

But she's a red-headed flame I can't resist, and I can't help but take her to my bed.

Now we're falling into an abyss of passion and need.

Loving her is easy.

Only we're tied in ways we don't know.

I'll do anything to protect her, but it's my past that might destroy her in the end…

Make a Wish ~ Helena Hunting ~ New Release & Review

♥ NEW RELEASE ♥

With her signature charm and sense of humor, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting creates a novel about love, family, and second chances in Make a Wish…

Ever have a defining life moment you wish you could do over? Harley Spark has one. The time she almost kissed the widowed father of the toddler she nannied for. It was so bad they moved across the state and she never saw them again.

Fast forward seven years and she’s totally over it. At least she thinks she is. Until Gavin Rhodes and his adorable now nine-year-old daughter, Peyton, reappear at a princess-themed birthday party hosted by Spark House, Harley’s family’s event hotel. Despite trying to avoid the awkwardness of the situation, she can’t help but notice how unbearably sexy he looks in a tutu. Add to that a spontaneous hives breakout, and it’s clear she’s not even remotely over the mortification of her egregious error all those years ago.

Except Gavin seems oblivious to her inner turmoil. So much so that he suggests they get together for lunch. For Peyton’s sake, of course. It’s the perfect opportunity to heal old wounds. Or it could just reopen them. This is one of those times Harley wishes she could see the future…

Make a Wish (Spark House, #3)Elizabeth's Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars - One of the best

Review Copy Provided by Publisher via Net Galley

I normally would not give book 3 in a series a 5 star review. Usually, there is too much connectivity with the prior books for it to fully stand alone (and there is some of that here), but the story told in Make A Wish reached in a grabbed a hold of my heart in a way that I couldn’t give it anything less.

In Make A Wish, we get to spend time with the youngest Spark sister, Harley, as she reconnects with a single dad she used to nanny for. I genuinely like Harley and found her efforts to make a place for herself in the family business endearing. Gavin and his daughter Peyton are also characters that I found myself very much invested in.

The details of the story and evolving relationships are best appreciated by reading the story, but I will say that Ms Hunting approached delicate situations with grace and gentleness that made them relatable. She even managed to make the “villain” of the story someone that I could have empathy toward!

This final installment of the Spark House series delivers a whopper of emotions. Not only do we see Harley attempt to find her happy ending, we also see where Avery and London are now. This definitely wraps things up on a high note!

Keep This Promise by Corinne Michaels ~ New Release & Review

Keep This Promise by Corinne Michaels is now live!

I’m about to lose everything.

My home. My name. My future.

My husband was involved in something that could cost us our lives, and on his deathbed, he demands my daughter and I flee Britain.

I had no idea he found her biological father, Holden James, in Rose Canyon, and that’s where we’d start over.

The moment we see each other, feelings I’d long forgotten rush over me. Holden doesn’t hesitate to care for us. We find ourselves reaching for each other, even when we should hold back. His smile warms me, his arms protect me, and against my better judgment, I fall for him. All the possibilities of a future are threatened by a looming past.

I’m being hunted, and it’s just a matter of time before someone finds me guilty of crimes I didn’t commit. Whatever trouble my husband was involved in won’t evade me forever.

I am trying to keep my promise and stay for Holden, but I don’t know how long it’ll be before we have to run.

My name was Sophie Pearson, but I vanished, just like my hope to ever find love again.

Keep This Promise concludes the Rose Canyon series surrounding three friends who find themselves accidentally embroiled in a scandal and find love along the way. Given that Holden’s story wraps things up, I would caution readers to begin at the beginning and not try to read this book as a true standalone.

Now that I’ve gotten my disclaimer out of the way - can I say how much l love Holden and Sophie? Their meet cute is unique and I truly appreciated the way Holden dove right in to be what Sophie and her daughter needed while also respecting the boundaries Sophie set.

This is a fast paced book with a strong suspense element. Sophie and Holden are put in harrowing situations, but thrive with the help of a strong secondary cast. Not only do we see Spencer and Emmett (the heros of the first two books), but there are numerous cameos fans of Ms Michaels will appreciate.

While this ends the Rose Canyon series, we are teased a bit with what may be coming next for Ms Michaels and I am definitely looking forward to it.

Egan and Sophia have been secondary characters in previous books of the series and I enjoyed getting to know them better here.

When I picked up my advance copy of The Backup Plan, I was looking for a feel good read and Ms Shalvis did not disappoint.

We meet Alice, Knox, and Lauren when they jointly inherit a semi run down inn from Eleanor. Each of them has a their own history/relationship with both the property and Eleanor. Alice and Lauren have their own complicated back story.

I appreciated the way Ms Shalvis used Eleanor and her emails along with the work around the inn to peel back some of the layers encouraging all three characters to develop. Old wounds were poked, insecurities revealed, and relationships grew in the month that they were “forced” together.

We see each character face a hard thing and come out the other side as a better person. I enjoyed how the three partners supported each other and communicated so that they seemed to inherently know who the struggling person needed to talk to. The personal growth led to new friendships and romantic developments.

Add in Ms Shalvis’ classic humor and this is a well written must read set in the Tahoe area town is Sunset Cove. This is the third book in this series, but is a complete standalone.

After meeting the Jansen brothers in Noah and Grace’s story, I was excited to meet Wes and Hailey here in A Guide to Being Just Friends.

Both of these characters are intriguing. Hailey and Wes both come to their friendship with baggage and wounds from the past. This leads them to the idea that they can only be friends. Their journey to a developing friendship and growing connections was sweet and endearing.

I enjoyed getting to know both characters and seeing how knowing each other brought about their personal growth. Wes and Hailey were excellent offsets for each other. Add in small, but impactful secondary cast and this is a well written read.

Ms Sullivan is a newer to me author who is moving to my “must read” list and I am curious about going back to read Chris and Everly’s story.

Forbidden by Tia Louise ~ New Release & Review

FORBIDDEN by Tia Louise is now live!

FORBIDDEN
By Tia Louise

I have one job: Get close and take him out. The only problem is, I want him more.

I was barely five when I lost my brother; seven when my father was murdered.
Overnight, I was taken by my mysterious uncle, grafted into a world of crime I didn’t understand and couldn’t escape.

The first ten years, I did my best to blend in.
The next four, I reinvented myself, growing stronger, searching for answers.
Now I have one assignment—take down the man who knows our secrets.

Professor Dirk Winston is my target, and I’m expected to be a good soldier, disguised as a good student.
Only he’s not the passive bookworm I expect.
He’s ripped muscles, bedroom eyes, dirty mouth, and ready for a fight.

But I’ve got my plans of my own, and this hot teacher is going to do more than give me grades and take my panties.
He’s going to help me get revenge.

(FORBIDDEN is a five-alarm-spicy age-gap, student-professor romance with secrets, lies, and answers to all your questions. No cheating. No cliffhanger.)

Elizabeth's Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Forbidden is the final (?) installment of a series surrounding the fall out from a defunct Russian mafia family.
Dirk Winston is a character that we’ve seen in the back ground of other installments of the series, he’s been in a secondary role supporting his brother and friend as they saved their lady loves and found a happily ever after. Now, four years later he is moving on to make something of his life - he didn’t count on meeting Reanna.
Reanna is a complicated character, I wasn’t sure I liked her at first. Getting to know her created a more sympathetic impression.
Ms Louise did an excellent job of layering the intrigue elements along with the taboo aspects of a professor and student potential relationship. While this is technically a standalone, reading the series in order will go a long way to helping the reader understand the back story both Dirk and Reanna are working from.
I appreciated the fact that we saw both Dirk and a Reanna struggle with their relationship at different points. It helped frame the moral standpoints they were coming from and see who they really were. The fact that the conflict stemmed from those moral struggles, but wasn’t the simplest option added to the fun of this story. If this is the last time we see this group of characters, this was a great way to wrap things up!

One Little SecretOne Little Secret by Avery Maxwell

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Author

I was invited to read One Little Secret and had room in the schedule, so decided to give it a shot and I am glad I did because this book sparked my curiosity for this author and the Westbrook family.

In One Little Secret intoduces us to Ashton Westbrook and Nova Blain. When we meet them, Ashton is battling something and Nova needs help. It was interesting to meet them, see their interactions, and watch them evolve.

The large secondary cast of family and found family help these two navigate painful situations by providing support and mirrors for things that need to change when needed. I found myself invested and rooting for these two.

If I enjoyed the book, why the missing 1/2 star? Well, as I read One Little Secret I kept feeling like I was missing something. That large seconday cast that I mentioned also contributed to the fact that I felt like there were pieces to the puzzle that I should have and don't. Based on the number of couples in the secondary cast, my guess is that Ashton has been a secondary character in those books and having read them before would have helped here.

This was well written and entertaining, so I am defintely curious to read more from Ms Maxwell, including more from the Westbrook family.

This is a book I picked up for free knowing it would be a fun, entertaining read and Ms Vale did not disappoint.
Jed and North are interesting characters in a plot driven story. There is enough from them that I liked both characters and found myself rooting for them to be successful. This is a fairly quick read, so the while the plot drives the story, its at a high level.
I would have enjoyed a little deeper dive on both the characters and story, but this was still a nice light weight read. North's brothers are the primary secondary characters here and I am curious about them.

The Muse by Emma Scott ~ New Release and Review

The Muse by Emma Scott is now live!

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Emma Scott, comes an emotional paranormal romance about sacrifice, redemption, and the power of true love.

Cole Matheson didn't expect the road toward being a successful painter would be paved in gold, but he hoped there'd be a few less potholes. Insidious self-doubt that whispers that he's no good, talentless, hopeless has him on the brink of despair. Maybe it would be better to just give up.

A midnight visit by a beautiful creature of darkness changes everything...

Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch surrendered to the underworld centuries ago after knowing only pain and suffering during his short life. Now, Ambri makes humans dance on his strings, feeding on their desire for his own pleasure. But his liege lord questions his loyalty and commands him to bring a pure soul into their dark realm.

Cole Matheson seemed like an easy mark, but Ambri didn't count on his goodness or the depth of his generous spirit that wants Ambri just as he is. And Cole never expected to find in Ambri a muse who unlocks his talent and who might also be what his lonely heart has been searching for. Something fragile yet powerful grows between them, and the possibility of soul-deep love hangs in the balance, if only they have the courage to reach for it.

But fairy tale endings don't come without a price. The dark forces Ambri answers to have been promised a soul, and they're coming to collect...

The Muse is book 2 in the Angels and Demons series but can be read as a standalone.

Oh wow- Ms Scott has done it again!
The Muse follows demon Ambri as he attempts to wiggle his way out of the fall out from actually helping someone else. This brings him into the life of Cole.
What follows focuses on the power of love to redeem us and what’s really important.

Ms Scott employs the journey of Cole and Ambri to delve into the emotional demons that threaten each of us as we strive for fulfillment and happiness.

This is a powerful, well written story that pulls the reader in and doesn’t let go to the very last page. Both Cole and Ambri are interesting characters that had me rooting for them to find the ultimate success and a happily ever after.

The Muse is a standalone read that closely follows the events in The Sinner. As these books are related, having read The Sinner will add to the enjoyment and experience here.

I'll do anything to protect her, but it's my past that might destroy her in the end...

Review Round Up ~ January 4

TBR Reads:

Game On (Out of Bounds, #1)Game On by Tracy Solheim

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review copy purchased for free

This is a slightly older book that I recently picked up for free and it’s by a newer to me author. I enjoyed Carly and Shane but I felt like Carly didn’t quite live up to her tough girl persona.

Shane had an excellent emotional evolution, but I felt like it took a lot for him to get there and it bothered me a little what Carly was willing to except in the meantime. It spoke to her generosity, but I would have appreciated a little more back bone.
While this was a decent blend of intrigue, angst, and romance, there were places were it felt repetitive.

This is the first book in the series, but the world building around the Blaze was somewhat limited. I am slightly curious to see where the series might go.

Wood You Knot (Cinnamon Bay)Wood You Knot by J.C. Hannigan

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

J C Hannigan is an author I have read and enjoyed before, so I was excited to see a new book from her.
Wood You Knot is a sweet story about finding yourself and making new connections with old friends.

Sage and her daughter, Daphne, move to Cinnamon Bay to start over with help from extended family. This brings them into the path of Sage’s teenage crush, Nix.

All of the characters here, including the town, are likeable and people I would want to spend more time with. I appreciated the way Sage and Daphne were adopted by the whole community. Told in dual point of view, we had the opportunity to see the journey from old friends to more from both Sage’s and Nix’s perspectives. This made me root for them even more.

There is a fairly large secondary cast within the Cinnamon Bay community, so I am curious if there will be more stories here!
