The Billionaire ~ Marni Mann ~ Cover Reveal

Marni Mann has revealed the cover for The Billionaire!

Releasing: March 1, 2022

Cover Design: Hang Le

I've always been a good girl.

But the second I walk into the hotel bar, I see temptation.

The man sitting there is delicious. Older. Experienced. Once our eyes meet, I know I'm not walking away unscathed. I've heard about men like Jenner Dalton--richer than God and hotter than sin. He's got heartbreak written all over him.

But it only takes fifteen minutes before we're headed up to his room.

I've never done anything like this before, but something tells me he's worth it. Every swipe of his tongue feels electric, every kiss sets me on fire, and his experience has me begging for more.

And more.

And more.

In one week, I'll return to college in Miami.

He'll go back to being LA's most eligible billionaire.

The miles and years between us are just too many for this to mean anything.

So, between now and then, I plan to spend every moment being anything but good ...

Elizabeth's Review

3.25 stars - Above Average Read

Review Copy Provided by Author

Ms Finley is a new to me author. I picked up this advanced copy because of the romantic suspense element. Overall, I enjoyed Pierce Her, but I didn’t love it.

The good stuff:
Charlie - she is an awesome, take no prisoners leading lady. She strong, she’s been through a lot and she doesn’t let those things keep her down.

Who is the bad guy - Ms Finley does an excellent job of teasing this out so that it really is a surprise at the end.

The okay, but not great:
The balance between the suspense story and the romance story line. It felt as if the suspense story line was taking a back seat.

Daniel - To keep this spoiler free, I won’t go into full details. But, I will say that as much as I liked Daniel and how he cared for Charlie, he committed what I consider to be a relationship cardinal sin…. You have to read to see if you agree.

This is supposedly book 1, but it felt like there was a lot of backstory that we were supposed to know, but don’t. Is Charlie a secondary character from another book or series? I don’t know!

The personal preference, could go either way stuff:
Holy details Batman! There were several Charlie/Daniel scenes that were repetitive. We really just didn’t need to see basically the same thing three times. In addition, Some of the romantic scenes felt over detailed and as if a thesaurus had been thrown at them. This caused me to start skimming and lose focus on where the story was going.

The ending….. I’m not going to elaborate, but I will say that there are a lot of loose ends and it left me feeling unsatisfied. Yes, there is a book 2 that appears to pick up where this leaves off, but…..

Like I said, I received this as an advanced copy. I hope that maybe the version I received wasn’t final and there has been some additional editing to streamline things a bit. Pierce Her is an interesting read, but it didn’t quite ring the bell for me. I am a bit curious about the next book in the Come for Me series.

Tagline: Life might be a highway, but the last thing this grumpy silver fox expected was a road trip across the country with a ray of sunshine.

Blurb:

Tucker Ashford has forgotten who he was. The former rock star – Tucker Ashe – turned social media sensation knows exactly where life took a U-turn. Problem is, he’s convinced it’s too late to circle back. When he needs a ride from Chicago to California for his daughter’s wedding, an eight-state journey with a quirky woman is more than he bargained for, but quite possibly the chance he needs to rewind time.

Mae Fox is ready to discover who she is. After two decades of marriage (gone wrong), motherhood (still going), and a not-so-small business (going quite well), she’s looking for the adventure of a lifetime – alone. However, her well-planned escape of come-what-may down the Mother Road is slightly detoured when she’s asked to haul a grumpy silver fox across the country.

The highway is a melody of cheesy sight-seeing stops, nostalgic locations, and a playlist that rocks as two lonely hearts take a road trip down the path of second chances and the possibility of love over forty.

+ + +

Hint: Can be read as a standalone, but if you’ve read After Care, Midlife Crisis, and Second Chance, this is the elusive original band member who left them behind.

Trope: later in life romance; second chance romance; road trip romance; travel; dating after loss; dating after divorce

What to expect:

*Grumpy silver fox

*Ray of sunshine

*Cross country shenanigans

*Second chance

*Love over 40

3.5 stars  - Worth a Reader's Time

Hauling Ashe is a stand alone that begins introducing us to the Fox sisters with middle sister Mae as she embarks on a journey along Route 66. Mae ends up with an unexpected traveling companion in Tucker Ashford and the resulting journey changes more than either expect.

Overall, this is a book that I enjoyed, but I feel like I need to review it in two different parts. It's a bit hard to seperate the story from execution/voice, but for me it feels neccessary here.

The story: 4 stars: The journey Mae and Tucker take is evocative and timely. They traverse emotional journeys as the miles go by and their evolutions resonated with me. I appreciated that both characters had issues/baggage that they brought to the equation and needed to deal with. These two fit together well and balanced each other in ways that had me rooting for them to find a way to be together.

Execution/Voice: 3 stars: As much as I enjoyed this book, there were pieces of it that just didn't flow well for me. Some of these are pet peeve type things that really fall under preference, so I am not going to list them here. The one thing I will call out is that while this is a stand alone book, there is a big element of "small world" in the secondary cast (that mainly appear in conversation/memories). The majority of these characters have been main characters in other books by Ms Dunbar. While it was nice to see what these characters are doing now, for me, this distracted from the story of Mae & Tucker.

If you have been a fan of Ms Dunbar's silver foxes and books like After Care, then Hauling Ashe will be something that you enjoy as well.

This was a fun, sweet read.

Based on how things started, I expected Max and Kendall to have a bit of an enemies to lovers interaction, but both characters are just too nice for that to happen.

I enjoyed getting to see Kendall and Max get to know each other. The semi isolated setting was perfect for the real people to shine through and I found myself rooting for them to find a way to have a happy ending.

There are a couple of twists to the story that were unexpected and that kept things from being trite. We see a few tidbits from Max’s brother Issac that have me curious about his story and I hope to see that soon!

My first 5 star read of 2022.
I do have to say that this book wasn’t exactly what I expected based on the blurb.I was expecting something dark and instead found a story that was hopeful and sweet.

Damian and Stella are both interesting characters that come together in an unexpected way. It was fun to watch their initial interactions and the evolution of their relationship. I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that I appreciated how these characters were the balance to what the other needed and they helped each other grow.
There are important messages here about self esteem, self care, and learning what internal messages to give importance too.

The one thing that this book doesn’t touch on, but I am incredibly curious about, is how Damian ended up in the foster care system to begin with. Based on flashbacks and ages, I have guesses, but would have loved to know the real story.

Western Waves is the third book in the Compass series, I have not read the first two books, but that did not hinder my enjoyment here at all. I am curious about the other books in the series- mainly because I enjoyed this one so much!

This was an entertaining, semi light hearted follow up to the Lasaran. This picks up almost where The Lasaran left off and tells the story of what happened to Eliana after they were attacked.

The first part of the book has a fairly high tension level smooths out as the action continues. I enjoyed seeing the interactions between Eliana, Dagon, and his crew.

I do wish there had been a little revealed about what happened to some of the other missing women, but I have a feeling those details are in book 3 of the series.

Southern Bombshell by Jessica Peterson ~ New Release & Review

Southern Bombshell by Jessica Peterson is now live!

The Wedding Planner’s Rulebook:

Keep the bride happy.

Keep the wedding party out of trouble.

Never let anyone know you’ve been in love with the groom for years.

I lived by these rules. Until Nate Kingsley.

The Capulets and Montagues have nothing on the Beauregards and Kingsleys. Our families have feuded for centuries, and Nate was always forbidden—which made fooling around with him that much more delicious. But then I fell for him, and he fell off the face of the earth, ghosting me without so much as a goodbye.

Fast-forward two years: as an expert in romance, I’m a wedding planner to the rich and famous. I never expected Nate to show up at my office, least of all with a shiny new fiancée on his arm. She’s got money to burn, and she wants me to plan the most extravagant wedding of my career.

It’s a make-or-break moment for my business. I convince myself I can do Nate’s wedding and keep my feelings for him in check, even if he does look good.

Really, really good.

But when the secrets we buried years ago come to light, what kept us apart suddenly binds us together. Even if my heart belongs to Nate, and his belongs to me, he belongs to someone else. And that’s a rule we absolutely cannot break.

Confession time:  I had very mixed feelings going into Southern Bombshell. From the blurb we knew that there were forbidden aspects to the story and I was nervous about how those were going to play out - especially since this is a series/family that I have truly enjoyed getting to know.

I should have known that Ms Peterson would deliver a story where our couple got the ending they deserved in a way that allowed them to both be the stand up, quality people we hoped they would be. I am not going to say too much more about what happens with Milly and her love interest because I think you should enjoy the book, and the twists, for yourself. This is a story that pulled me in and had me rooting for everyone to find a truly happy ending.

Southern Bombshell is an excellent way to wrap up the series surrounding the Beauregard family. Not only do we see Milly and her softer side, but we get updates on where her brothers and their significant others are in life. This story had just the right balance on focusing on the principal story and exploring the secondary cast. I will miss this family and look forward to seeing what comes next from the author.

I’m terrified of falling for him.
But one taste might be all it takes.

TASTE, an all-new enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, surprise pregnancy small town romantic comedy from USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author Melanie Harlow is coming March 7th, and we have the delicious cover!

The last person on earth I want to be stranded with is Gianni Lupo.

But thanks to the blizzard of the century, I’m trapped in a roadside motel room with that cocky bastard for two straight days.

With one small bed.

Some women might thank Mother Nature for delivering a polar vortex that maroons them with six feet of solid muscle, those deep blue eyes, that sexy grin--but not me. I’ve known Gianni Lupo all my life, and he’s never brought me anything but bad luck and trouble.

So when the tension between us explodes with enough fiery heat to melt my icy defenses, I should have known what the disastrous end result would be--

A big fat plus sign.

After the snow melts, I’m left with more than just memories of the night we spent keeping each other warm. And he might be a rising star on the culinary scene, but he’s got no idea how to handle this bun in the oven.

He says he wants to do the right thing, but I’m not about to spend the rest of my life feeling like someone settled for me.

But just when I think I’ve got Gianni Lupo all figured out, he gives me a taste of the man he could be, of the family we could become, of the way he could love me if I let him.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

Review Copy Received from Publisher via Net Galley

Sophie Sullivan is a new to me author and I picked this book up off of Net Galley based on the blurb and I am glad I did!

Grace and Noah were both interesting characters to get to know. We meet them when both are at a cross roads and after a bumpy start, it was a pleasure to see them navigate new waters together as friends then as more.

Both are people who came to the situation with baggage that colored their reactions. I appreciated that both were willing to seek help/advice from friends on how to move in the directions they wanted to go.
The secondary cast here is interesting and I am curious about several of them. Noah’s brothers play a big part in his story, so I am definitely interested in knowing if they have their own stories to tell.

Unforgettable In Love (The Maverick Billionaires, Book 7)Unforgettable In Love by Bella Andre

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Author

This is a solid, entertaining read in the Maverick Billionaire world. Lyssa is the younger sister/foster sister/sister-in-law of the 6 men who have anchored the series so far. In this book we see her come into her own both personally and professionally as she is paired with Cal.

I enjoyed Lyssa and Cal. They had an excellent working relationship that flowed naturally into more. I appreciated the weight that they both gave their differences and the work put in to move past them. The focus on family and maintaining relationships with the larger secondary cast also spoke well of both characters.

The thing that kept this from being a full 4 star read for me - that large secondary cast. This is book 7 in a series and all 6 of the previous main couples make appearances here. At times that can be a bit distracting and keeping track of who belongs to who and what the back story is made it harder to focus on the action related to this book.

If you have followed the series to date, I think you will enjoy seeing Lyssa and getting updates on her brothers. There are also hints in the epilogue that we may not be done with the Mavericks just yet. I am curious to see if the series will continue or if certain secondary characters might launch something new.

Stop! If you have not read the first book, just stop…. This book picks up right where the first book leaves off, so this won’t make sense unless you have read the first book.

My other disclaimer here is that the 4 star rating is for the two books together and the complete story they tell.

The conclusion of Jack and Darcy’s story is full of push/pull and conflict that honestly flirts with being over the top, but stops just short of crossing that line.

My one frustration with Jack and Darcy (in book 1 and here) is that while they talk to each other a lot, they never seem to listen to each other or really communicate.

Together, the It’s You books weave together an interesting story and had me actively rooting for our main characters to figure things out. I am also curious about some of the backstory hinted at surrounding the town - I definitely wouldn’t say no if the author were to revisit the genre.

Dianne Duvall is an author I have enjoyed before and for some reason drfited away from. The Lasaran has been on my TBR list for a long time and I am so glad that I finally made time for this entertaining read.

This is the first book in a new series, but it definitely intersects with Ms Duvall's Immortal Guardian world. I would strongly suggest that to fully appreciate this book, the reader should have some familiarity with who the Immortal Guardians are.

I enjoyed meeting the characters featured here and returning (at least tangentally) to the Immortal Guardiand I have met and liked before. Reading The Lasaran has spiked my interest in the books I have missed from Ms Duvall and well as the books that are hopefully coming in this series as well.

I worked my whole life to achieve one goal—play professional hockey. As part of the defending Cup champion Arizona Vengeance, I was living my dream until one split second decision destroyed it all. When a coaching opportunity with the Pittsburgh Titans is presented to me, I find myself with a career I had never considered but which allows me to continue being part of the sport that I love. While my injuries are physical, the same can’t be said for the woman I rescued. Suffering from wounds that can’t be seen, Sophie Winters has withdrawn from the world in fear and guilt. I didn’t know Sophie before that fateful night and have only met her once since, but I refuse to let her face her demons alone. Determined to be a friend, I support Sophie in the only way I know how… by simply being there. Through our shared trauma, Sophie and I begin to find peace within one another. As a book, Baden has a lot going on!
This is the first book in a new series about the Pittsburg Titans, so there is world building and a whole cast of characters to introduce. But, as Baden is coming from another team where he was an active secondary character, this book has to straddle that world just a little too. We also see the closing of one “chapter” and the beginning of another. All of this to say that the potential was here for a giant hot mess - it speaks to Author Bennett’s skill that Baden is exactly the opposite! This is a well crafted story that balances all of the different pieces just right.

Baden is paired romantically with Sophie- initially I wasn’t sure about this choice, but the more time I spent with them the more I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else for either of them!

This is not a “traditional” book. There is no one big conflict scene that then has to be resolved, there are smaller challenges and struggles peppered through the story. Seeing how our characters react to and address these issues is one of the things that makes me like and root for them to find happy endings.

I enjoyed getting to meet a few of the other Titan players and I am incredibly curious to see how this team evolves and see how their stories play out.

But maybe it takes a little crazy to build a good life. If putting the past behind her requires a thousand miles and a new town, she'll do it if it means a better future for her son. Even if it requires setting aside the glamour of her former life. Even if it requires working as a housekeeper at The Eloise Inn and living in an apartment above a garage.
It's there, on the fifth worst day of her life, that she meets the handsomest man she's ever laid eyes on. Knox Eden is a beautiful, sinful dream, a chef and her temporary landlord. With his sharp, stubbled jaw and tattooed arms, he's raw and rugged and everything she's never had--and never will. Because after the first worst day of her life, Memphis learned a good life requires giving up on her dreams too. And a man like Knox Eden will only ever be a dream.

With Juniper Hill, Author Perry returns us to Quincy, Montana and the Eden family. This time we are getting to know the second oldest, Knox, the chef behind the family restaurant.

Knox comes to the unwilling aid of his sister by providing a place for her new employee to live temporarily- little did he know the change Memphis would bring with her!

I enjoyed getting to know both Memphis and Knox. Their connection was instant and the fact that they tried to resist made their budding romance all the more real as they had time to get to know each other as people first.

Even though Knox is the connection to the Eden family and a major player here, this really feels like Memphis’ story and evolution. She pulled into town on her 5th worst day and then proceeded to pull herself up by her bootstraps. It was a treat to see her begin to understand what family really means and how she might fit into that.

As the second book in the Eden series, there is more world building that goes on in terms of getting to know the secondary cast better. All of Knox’s siblings pop in at some point - some more prominently than others. The timeline here is sequential to the first book in the series (featuring Griffin and Winslow) so there are updates for where they are now. Reading this series in order would add to the enjoyment factor of this book, but it isn’t necessary to love meeting Knox and Memphis.

In The Family You Make, we meet the town of Sunrise Cove (set near Lake Tahoe), the Cutler Family, Jane Parks, and a small group of the doctors and nurses who make up the community’s emergency services.

The focus here is on Jane and Levi (who meet under less than ideal circumstances) and Charlotte and Mateo (neighbors and coworkers).

It was entertaining as well as heartwarming to watch these two couples navigate the roadblocks to becoming the people they are meant to be.

Ms Shalvis once again used humor to tackle some serious issues and gave us a community that I am glad to have met and am looking forward to getting to know better.

Holy cliffhanger batman!
Yes, when you dive into this book, be prepared for a cliffhanger, but the story is worth it.
Jack and Darcy are interesting characters who are easy to like. The paranormal aspects of their story are fascinating and I enjoyed watching them form their bond and seeing how things played out from each point of view.
I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the conclusion to the story!

I have a confession to make….
I read the first two Bellamy Creek books and loved them, then I got bogged down and missed the last two books. I still haven’t read book 3 (Enzo), but was glad to get caught up with Beckett here.

Beckett is a secondary character I remember meeting, but he was a bit of a mystery man. It was nice to get to know who he really is and discover that I really liked him too.
He is paired with Maddie (a high school friend/crush 15 years later). I liked her as well and enjoyed seeing their friendship blossom.

One of the things I enjoy about Ms Harlow and her writing is that she incorporates timely social issues into her stories in a way that shows the strengths of her characters. That is definitely true in the case of Beckett and Maddie.

If you have been following the Bellamy Creek series, you will be thrilled to catch up on the 4 friends central to the series. Don’t worry, if you are new to the series this will work as a stand alone too!

A Chance for Us ~ Corinne Michaels ~ Cover Reveal

Corinne Michaels has revealed the cover for A Chance for Us!

Releasing: February 8, 2022

Photographer: Sandra Holzfuß

Cover Model: Kevin Lütolf

Cover Design: Sommer Stein

My marriage started as a lie.

But some lies are worth telling.

My father's dying wish was to walk me down the aisle, and I'd do anything for him.

Even marry a man I don't love.

So when my fiance jilts me only days before the ceremony, I turn to my college friend, Oliver Parkerson, and convince him to marry me.

My family hasn't met either man, so I'm confident we can pull this off.

But the feelings, our touches, the way my heart beats for him... none of it feels pretend. The way he holds me at night and carries me through loss tells me he's not acting either.

I didn't mean to fall for my fake husband, but real love was the one thing I couldn't predict.

Except, nothing built on lies can last--I know that better than anyone.

But the truth might tear us apart forever.
