In the Shadow Princess, Ms Bennett returns us to the world created in the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series. This is a connected stand alone with new characters, but reading the original series first would add significantly to the enjoyment factor here.

The primary characters here are Thalia and Bastien. They have a heartbreaking backstory that leads to where they are in the story here. I appreciated how Ms Bennett used flashbacks to let us see the characters “then” and “now” while also keeping the story moving forward.

The romance between Thalia and Bastien shares billing with a suspense/revolution story line that is interesting and keeps the reader in their toes.

Overall, this is a fast paced, enjoyable story in a world that I had fun with the first time around. There are just enough crumbs from the first books that we see the continuation of the time line and I am curious if we will see more from this world.
