New Releases
A couple of new release that I've read recently.....
Need You Now by Emma Douglas3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time
Review Copy provided by Publisher via Net Galley
I enjoyed getting to know Faith and Caleb, but there were moments when I felt like I was going into an existing story instead of a stand alone effort.
Ms. Douglas is a newer author for me, so I don't know if it is just her style of writing or if there is a series somewhere I am missing.
Both Faith and Caleb are interesting characters and I liked their interactions, but I would have enjoyed a deeper dive into who they are vs some of the technical music fest discussions. Some of the secondary characters also seemed to take on a prominence that never really played out through the rest of the story.
From a pure entertainment standpoint, this was a well written, good book. I am curious to read more about Cloud Bay.

Arm Candy by Jessica Lemmon3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time
Review Copy Provided by Publisher via Net Galley
I have to confess that I enjoyed this book more than its predecessor, Eye Candy. Since the two books are very similar, I think it comes down to enjoying the premise of Arm Candy a little more.
In Arm Candy, we rejoin our cast of characters shortly after the end of Eye Candy, but his time the focus is on Grace and Davis.
These two have had an antagonistic relationship and the sexual tension finally boils over!
I appreciated how these two kind of stumbled into dating each other exclusively and there was real relationship building and not just crazy hot sexy time. I found myself enjoying the process of getting to know them as they got to know each other and I found myself really liking each of them.
My one complaint is that the conflict seemed forced. I understand where Grace is coming from, but it just didn't seem like enough to be the "break up" issue. I know that's a personal preference thing, so it may not be an issue for everyone.
Overall, this is well written and fun. If you've read Eye Candy, you'll enjoy getting to revisit friends. But, by no means to you have to go in order - this does stand alone.

Drumline ~ Stacy Kestwick ~ New Release and Review
Traditions are important. Especially in the South.
College football. Rivalries. Tailgating. Halftime shows.
Some things just don’t change.
Until Reese Holland shows up with her long legs and no-bullshit attitude to audition for the prestigious all-male Rodner University snare line.
It doesn’t matter how much hazing she has to endure from Laird Bronson, with his narrowed green eyes and arrogant smirk. She wants that damn spot, and she’s more than good enough to earn it.
She expects there to be tension. Even friction.
But not sparks hot enough to burn the entire campus down.

Excerpt:
He devoured me.
Being eaten alive had never felt so good.
His lips. His hands. His heat. My entire being was overwhelmed by him finally, finally touching me. The kiss started hard, desperate, the inevitable conclusion to the tension that had been building between us for two weeks. With my eyes closed and my breasts flattened against the wall of his chest, I gave into it, surrendered to the moment. My mouth clung to his as he tilted my head to the side, changing the angle to deepen the contact.
His hands moved over me restlessly, hungrily, skimming down my back on the way to my ass, then back up my sides to frame my face, his fingers leaving a trail of heat behind on every inch of skin he claimed for himself. I pulled at his shirt while he pushed me against the solidness of the door. My heart tripped over itself in its race to keep up. Muffled sounds came from both of us, vibrating in our throats but not escaping our lips because we hadn’t even parted for a breath yet.
Who needed fucking air when Laird Bronson was kissing them? Not me.
His lips were somehow firm and soft at the same time as he slanted them over me again and again. It was like being called up to the major league from the minors. Nothing in my past compared. I shivered from the intensity of it, from the innate authority of his mouth as he consumed me. Like I was made to bend to him, as inevitable as the moon ceding to the sun.
I lifted on my tiptoes to get closer, one of my hands snaking up to tangle in his dark hair. The strands were barely long enough at the top to grip, and when I gave them a tug, he rolled his hips against me, showing me just how much he liked it. I moaned and felt an answering wetness gather at the juncture of my thighs.
Dear sweet rosy-cheeked baby Jesus and all the saints in heaven.
His mouth needed to come with a warning label. Danger. Highly flammable.
But it was too late. I’d had a taste and I liked the burn.

How can you not love a book where the hero is a Computer Science major, drum playing, band guy?
In Drumline we meet Laird (see above) the Captain of the drumline and graduating senior. His lady love, Reese, is a college freshman who tries out for the historically all male line.
Their story is cute and more emotional than I would have expected for a book that centers around Drumline.
These two have physical chemistry, but they also have an emotional connection that I think actually makes more sense to us the reader than it does to them at first. These two have more than a love of Drums in common, they also have to torture of childhood cancer. Reese is a survivor and Laird lost his brother and they both routinely volunteer with young patients, especially Eli.
We see them deal with what I consider normal young adult angst. We see Reese's worry about how people perceive her position in band, where does their relationship stand, a bully, etc. A small but impactful supporting cast gets them through and when the chips are down, they are their for each other.
My one complaint was that some of the sexy time seemed a little mature for people who were 18 and 22. It's not a issue that detracts from the story, but just something I noticed and bothered me a little - it really falls under a personal preference thing for me.
Over all, this is a fun book that makes me want to see more of Laird and Reese and read more by Ms. Kestwick.

If you ever doubted that you can meet the right person at the wrong time, then you need to read this second chance romance by Melissa Foster!
Willow and Zane have been life long friends (and a little more) when he decides to use a career issue to spend more time with her and hidden desires blossom.
These two were fun together! I loved the idea that they had 10 years of miscommunication to deal with and that they never really let the other one go.
Willow and Zane don't have a perfectly smooth road once they reconnect, but it's a definitely an entertaining one to watch.
As the first book in the series, we spend time with Willow's family as the cast of Sweetwater is established. As important as the secondary cast is, the focus is firmly on our lovebirds and their journey to happily ever after. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next in the series!

New Releases....
I had the chance to read a couple of brand new books this week!
Compromised in Paradise by Samanthe Beck3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time
Review Copy Provided by Publisher via Net Galley
Arden and Nick are a couple that is meant to be, they just don't know it.
From the get go, this was a fun book. The premise is a little "out there", but works if you are ready for escape. I liked the fact that both Arden and Nick knew the score and went into their "deal" with no pretense.
It was interesting to see them walk the line of sharing and caring, but each trying to maintain the pretense for the other's benefit. I loved watching the "conflict" moments and how Arden's father's well meaning interference swept in and saved the day.
This is part of a series, but as there is minimal character cross over between the other books, it can easily be read as a stand alone. Definitely a book I would recommend if you are looking for a quick, fun read.

Make Me Want by Rebecca Brooks3 Stars - Average Read
Review Copy provided by Publisher via Net Galley
This book was fun and had a great idea, but I had a difficult time in connecting with the characters.
Tyler and Abbi are both interesting people with tragic and sad moments in their pasts, moments that almost make them the exact wrong person for each other to begin with. There was just something about both of them that made it hard for me to relate, especially to Abbi.
I think the lack of connection also made it harder for me to appreciate them as a couple. I did like them together more as the story went on and a real relationship started to develop.
The secondary cast is what saved this story for me. We don't get to know the secondary group well, there is obvious back story in previous books, but they do shed some light on Abbi and Tyler that make them more sympathetic and likeable.
Overall, this is a decent read. It wasn't a favorite, but I enjoyed it enough that I will read more of the author's work in the future.

Rapturous by M.S. ForceMy rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would recommend to a friend
Wow!
It's been a while since I read the first three books in the Quantum series, but these are so well written that I didn't have any trouble slipping back into that world to spend time with Hayden and Addie.
We've met both of these characters before, but really get to know them here. It was nice to see a softer side to Hayden as they tried to figure out if the love between them was enough to make a life together.
Ms. Force did an excellent job of walking the line of showing us Hayden's tortured side, but without making the push/pull he had with Addie seem repetitive. This is also a story where the secondary cast makes a huge impact, but doesn't detract from their love story.
Rapturous doesn't have the heavy feel of the first three books in the series, but the emotions still ripple off the page and pull the reader in.
Ravenous by M.S. Force3.5 stars - Worth a Reader;s Time

This is a case of I liked it, but....
I love the premise! 2 people who have been friends for years and have always been attracted to each other - they just never admitted it. One thing changes and they get a taste of being together -they just have one pesky hurdle to clear....
Ms. Force does a good job with the attraction/relationship building with Ellie and Jasper. I found their relationship to be believable and rooted for them to make it work.
My issue was the sexy time. Yes, the "life style" is important to Jasper and it's something Ellie is new too, but I felt that too much time was spent on the introduction of her to that life and it went too far too fast. I actually found myself skimming those scenes in the book to spend more time with the characters in more real life situations.
This is a good addition to the series, but may not be the strongest book.
