The Thing About Love ~Kim Karr ~ Release Boost

Title: The Thing About Love
Author: Kim Karr
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 3, 2018

Blurb

The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn’t my cup of tea.

I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 - 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)

Tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t change the fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude.
Not that I care, but he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.

Turns out no isn’t an option.

I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn’t have a choice. He looks at our situation like he’s stuck with me, but in reality, I’m stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)

When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I’m in trouble.
He isn’t supposed to make my heart pound.
I’m not supposed to make him look twice.
And we aren’t supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)

Falling for him is definitely a mistake.

Here’s the thing…
Jake is unavailable, and I know it.
Just not in the way you might think.

I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

This took me a little bit to get into, but once I did, I was hooked!
Jules and Jake get off to a rough start and while I wouldn’t call them enemies, there is definitely animosity when they start working together.
5 weeks working together and their chemistry explodes into something more.
One of the things I appreciated about this story is that both Jake and Jules ended up taking a hard look at who they were and if they were living their best life. Both characters seemed to blossom as individuals when they were together. The thing I loved about their maturing process was that the changes were for them as people being their best, not just about making the relationship work.
Ms. Karr does an excellent job of blending steamy and emotional with some unexpected humor thrown in as well. This is a book where I was happy with the ending, but still wanted more. I’m so glad that there are more books coming in the series, I just hope we get glimpses of Jake and Jules.

Since the release of her debut contemporary romance novel, Off Sides, in January 2013, Sawyer Bennett has released multiple books, many of which have appeared on the New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active daughter, as well as full-time servant to her adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or even better, both. Sawyer also writes general and women’s fiction under the pen name S. Bennett and sweet romance under the name Juliette Poe.

Warning - if you are expecting a “traditional” Wicked Horse Book, this is not it. Ms Bennett explains why at the beginning of the book :)
This is also a “sweeter” story emotionally than some of the other Wicked Horse books, but that really worked for Bodie and Rachel.
I have to admit, I really think of this as Rachel’s story with Bodie being her biggest support. She goes through a lot emotionally and that evolution makes it easy to root for her and hope she finds her happy ending.
Bodie is a character that is easy to like from the beginning. He’s just a good guy with a sexy Alpha side.
Ms Bennett does an excellent job (as always) of combining the sweet/emotional story with the sexy time. While it’s not a typical WH book, the story does pull you in and not let go until the very end. I am looking forward to future installments!

Cowboy Stole My Heart by Soraya Lane ~ New Release and Review

It takes true grit to build a billion-dollar dynasty like the Ford family ranch. But when it comes to finding love, all it takes is one handsome cowboy to steal a woman’s heart…

SHE’S RIDING SOLO

As one of the heirs to the River Ranch fortune, Mia Ford is practically Texas royalty. But that doesn’t mean she’s some pampered princess. She can saddle up and ride a horse as well as any man, even a hard-working cowboy like Sam Mendes. For years, she’s harbored a crush on the strong, silent horseman. But how can she make a move when she’s his boss?

 HE’S TAKING THE REINS

Sam Mendes is through with love—or so he thought. Still recovering from a breakup, he’s doing everything in his power to resist Mia Ford. It’s bad enough she’s the kind of beauty who drives men wild with desire. It’s even worse she’s got him so worked up, aching to kiss her lips, when he’s supposed to be working her ranch. Is this lovestruck cowboy willing to risk losing his job—and breaking his heart—to win the girl of his dreams?

This is a bit of a classic trope - man wounded by Love meets a woman he can’t resist, he starts a “casual” fling and gets upset when she breaks the rules by developing feelings. He’s a jerk and punishes himself by not admitting that he loves her too.....
I genuinely liked Sam and Mia. I appreciated that their mutual love of horses bridged the initial animosity between them and that their relationship developed organically. I found myself frustrated with Sam for not opening up to Mia about the things that had him holding back, but if he had I doubt the conflict piece of the story would have felt as natural.
One of my favorite parts of the story was Mia as a strong female character. She didn’t let her wealthy background deter her from living the life she wanted and she wasn’t afraid of standing up for herself.
This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last.

A Wedding At Two Love Lane by Kieran Kramer ~ New Release and Review

Never say never when it comes to love.

Greer Jones has made a real name for herself at the elegant matchmaking agency Two Love Lane. For a lot of reasons—including a past engagement she broke off—practical tech expert Greer is more interested in the business of love than the experience of it, but she can’t help but covet a gorgeous wedding gown that’s the prize in an upcoming cocktail-party contest. In a moment of brazen inspiration, Greer asks a handsome Brit she’s only just met to accompany her to the party. He agrees—and Greer believes her date is a starving artist. Little does she know the truth. . .

Ford Smith, as he calls himself, is actually Stanford Elliott Wentworth Smythe, the Eighth Baron of Wickshire. Fresh off a breakup with a money-grubbing siren who deceived him all the way to the altar, Ford has no desire to fall in love—especially with Greer who, like the desired wedding gown, is beautiful but only skin-deep. But soon Ford realizes that there’s more to Greer than meets the eye. Her professionalism is matched only by her passion for life and love. . .and, best of all, she has no idea that he’s to the manor born. Could it be that true love is priceless after all?

A Wedding at 2 Love Lane was a cute read, but I didn’t love it.
While the story is entertaining, I struggled with the fact that it seemed to be written at a 30,000 foot level. The bones of the story were laid out, but there were large gaps were more detail would have made the characters more relatable and easier to connect to.
The flip side of that is that pieces of the story that weren’t really important were went into in a lot of detail.
I also found myself a little confused about the direction of the story as there several sub plots going on all at the same time.
I liked Greer and Ford and would have really liked to have gotten to know them better. This is my first read by this author, so I don’t know if some of my issues are related to her style of writing or specific to this work.
