Review Round Up ~ August 11

New Releases:

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by Publisher via New Galley

This is the third installment of the ladies behind King & Co investigations, this time focusing on Daisy.
She is paired with Lucien Vaughn, a Duke that has been in her orbit for several years via her brothers.

This was a fun, unique forced proximity story. I enjoyed the sparing between these two as their adventures unfolded. If only they could communicate!

Add in a fun supporting cast and this was a treat of a historical romance that highlights the dichotomy of English Society of the time.

Slightly morally grey hero? Check
Quick attraction/love? Check
Happily ever after? Check

Ms Moreland delivers another entertaining and fun dip back into her morally grey heros with Unexpected Complication when homeless Skylar stumbles into a warehouse she should be in and sees “Tony” do something terrible.

What follows shows the depth of both characters and I ended up liking them very much and rooting for them to be successful.

This cemented Ms Moreland as one of my go to authors as I know I will enjoy each book she writes!

Ms Shalvis gives us a new family to love with the Colburns!
They are 3 brothers and their younger sister running a family business in the small town of Stars Fall. He Falls First features the oldest, Ryder, paired with Penny after her return town.

I loved these two! Both Penny and Ryder have baggage related to family and past relationships. Those wounds have them gun shy, but the grace they gave each other had the whole story feeling like a great big hug!
The slight role reversal of him being the one ready and genuinely giving space for Penny to catch up played a big part in the emotional dynamic of the story.

As with all first in a series stories, this book had to do double duty of telling one story while also laying the ground work for others. The balance here is spot on! The secondary cast is amazing and I can’t wait to see where their stories go.

Synopsis:

Falling into bed with my best friend’s brother was an accident.

What happened right after… not so much.

With abs more defined than the Texas Hill Country and a killer smirk I can’t ignore, the “boy next door” is all grown up and too hot for his own good.

My heart races for a man that’s forbidden.

My breath catches each time his hand brushes against mine.

His heated glances melt me, leading me closer to temptation.

One night together has us desperate for more. But we have no desire to give this small town something to talk about—or worse, upsetting his sister.

But when my family’s business is threatened by a new tyrant of a landlord, I need a miracle.

Call it a marriage of convenience or a friendly favor, but Baylor Greene comes through for me. The ring on my finger gets me out of a jam but also has us confronting our feelings.

Did I just make a deal with the devil? Or am I actually falling in love with my husband?

Lead Me Knot (Peachtree Pass, #2)Lead Me Knot by S.L. Scott

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

When we first came to Peachtree Pass, we met the youngest Greene and watched her fall in love with her older brother’s best friend. In this installment we get to see the brother, Baylor, fall in love with HER best friend, Lauralee.

I loved this story! My biggest regret was that work and kids got in the way of reading time!
Timeline wise, Baylor and Lauralee’s story is a couple of years after Christine and Tagger’s and the idea of right person/right time definitely radiates through. I appreciated how they seemed to bring out the best in each other, even when mistakes were made, and helped nudge each other in the right directions.

Ms Scott is a go to author and this is just another example of why! I can’t wait to see what happens with the third Greene sibling.

When my ex-husband leaves me for the co-star in his movie, moving back to Ember Falls feels like my only option.

But he wants me, the baby, and my heart.

As we have spent time in Ember Falls, Everett has been in the background. We know there is something going on, but don’t know what. In Against All Odds, we find out what he’s struggling with and get to see him reconnect with his first love.
Violet’s story emulates real life (July 2025) events that make me wonder if Ms Michaels can see the future.

Seeing these two reconnect was a bit bitter sweet at first, but I enjoyed them and seeing these two reconnect life lessons that they learned together.
Well written with just enough angst, this was a couple that I was truly rooting for. The town of Ember Falls is an amazing secondary character as well.

Fans of the series will be glad to see previous leading characters and where they are now. We also get a few more insights into Killian and Hazel- I can’t wait to see if they get stories of their own!

Niall (The Irishmen #2)Niall by Melanie Moreland

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a friend

In Niall, Ms Moreland takes us back to Toronto and the Syndicate. The story here picks up right where Finn left off, so I suggest reading the books in order!

Niall and Anna are sweet together and I appreciated how she (along with Finn and Una) helped him grow emotionally while he helped her feel more secure physically.

Add in an intrigue element and this was an exciting and feel good story all rolled into one. Loyal Moreland readers will be glad to see additional past heros pop up in supporting roles.

Okay- I’m going to be honest, with this being a second generation book, I was a little worried about how I was going to like seeing one of Theo’s friends “go after” his daughter.

I shouldn’t have worried!! Ms Meader did an excellent job of bridging the gap between Adeline and Lars to bring them to an even playing field.

Even though Lars is technically older, Adeline is more emotionally mature at the beginning of the story. It was fun to see them both evolve and grow as things moved along. Add in the connections between them before a romantic happened and the secondary story line was just as important as the live story.

The secondary cast has me very curious about where this series will be going!

The Way We Win by Tia Louise ~ New Release & Review

The Way We Win by Tia Louise is now live!

Coach Bradford has a dirty little secret… and it’s not (just) me.

Jack Bradford is the oldest of the Bradford siblings, my best friend’s brother, and my son’s

football coach.

He’s six-two, dark hair, ocean-blue eyes, broad shoulders, and a square jaw that’s perpetually

flexed.

He’s a hero in our small town, and the gentle way he cares for his young daughter will melt

your… everything.

I’ve done my best to show my interest, even walking down the aisle on his arm four times (in

his younger siblings’ weddings).

Everyone in Newhope ships us, but he always keeps me at arm’s length.

I’d pretty much given up on landing this DILF, when an overbearing dad says my son is only QB-1

because I give the coach “special favors.” (I wish!)

Then my ex-con ex-husband starts threatening us, and the walls break.

Coach Jack shows up at my door, sleeps on my couch, and his fight disappears.

Being with him is beyond my wildest dreams. His secrets don’t scare me.

He’s everything I’ve ever wanted… and more.

Together, we’re a win, and at last I go from dirty little secret to dirty little wife.

(The Way We Win is a small-town, single dad, single mom, football romance with a HOT high

school football coach, a sexy librarian, Friday night lights, ALL the Bradford fun, SPICE, and a

touch of suspense. No cheating, no cliffhanger, and no third-act breakup.)

The Way We WinThe Way We Win by Tia Louise

We have been with the Bradford family as they have each found their happily ever after - all except oldest brother Jack.
We’ve slowly watched him and librarian/family friend, Allie, develop feelings for each other and fight those feelings.

In this last installment of the Bradford series, we get to know Jack and Allie a little bit better. It was entertaining to see behind the scenes for both of them. Allie has baggage that she left behind before coming to New Hope and that history is starting to rear its head again. Jack’s hang up is more internal for him and the spiciness of that reveal turns up the heat.

Ms Louis did a wonderful job of tying the previous 4 books into Jack and Allie’s story without overpowering them. It was great to see where everyone is now and how the family relationships have evolved.
There are also several sub elements flowing through the story. The potential for things to get messy was huge, but I appreciated how the story was crafted to avoid that.

I feel bad because work and life have made reading so hard lately that I didn’t get to spend the time with Tyler and Sabrina that I wanted to!
These characters are so sweet - I loved them together from the very beginning.

She’s plucky and brave and total girl goals for embracing what she loves and making it work. He’s an awesome Dad, hockey player, brother, and even manages a successful divorce/co parent relationship.

The slow burn between these two is well written and they are surrounded by an excellent supporting cast. One of the things I appreciate about Ms Blakely is that her series tie in together, but the connections don’t overwhelm the current story.
Add in some super cut scene stealing kids and kittens - and this is a winner of a read.

I have been a Jill Shalvis fan for a long time and books like The Love Fix are an example of why!
I appreciate how real the characters here are! Lexi, Daisy, and Heath all have baggage and are flawed in ways that make them relatable.
I found myself invested in Lexi facing her struggles, rebuilding her relationships, and building something new.

For long time Shalvis fans, this is slightly different as Lexi is very much the center of the story. Heath is a wonderful leading man, but he is a gentler version than she usually writes.

This is definitely a feel good story!
