Let’s go back to Moonlit Ridge and see what the crew is up to, this time with Theo and he discovers Piper, Finn, and Nelly as they need help.

Much like his found brothers, Theo firmly believes he doesn’t need/can’t love. It was captivating to see him tumble into the abyss that was falling in love with Piper.
She is a character that is easy to root for as she tries to create a life for her family.

Ms Jackson uses flashbacks well to reveal what drives both characters to where they are now. Add in a great supporting cast and this is a story that pulls you in and won’t let go.

I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but please don’t read anything into the fact that it took me a while to read Play Me. It’s more a reflection of my schedule vs the quality of the book!

Astrid is a a character the has been filtered through most of the Brewers family books and she takes center stage in her role as Renn’s assistant and working with his newest player. She and Gray get off to a rough start, but I ended up loving these two together!

Ms Locke does a great job of introducing us to new characters and building worlds around both Astrid and Gray while also letting us get to know these two. I enjoyed the way they truly saw each other and built something real from animosity. I am also curious about where we may go next!

This is a book that made me a bit mad - not that there was a problem with the book, but with the fact that I couldn’t just sit a read like I wanted to.
That said - about the book!
Hell Bent is a “football” book in that our male lead, Sebastian, is a kicker for the Portland Devils and there is significant game play in the book. The games are actually fairly key to the story line and Ms James does an excellent job of incorporating this with the plot and who Sebastian is as a person.

Our female lead is Alix and I absolutely loved her! She’s such a unique and layered character I could not do her justice here - you just need to meet her!

Ben and a wonderful golden retriever round out our key cast. We have an unusual set of circumstances that bring this group together. Ms James’ uses her distinct style to craft a story that lets us see behind the curtain into how they develop as people and as a unit.
There are some hard topics addressed in Hell Bent. This is very much a case of literature causing the reader to be introspective and think about key life issues as our characters are dealing with them as well.

Loyal James readers will be glad to see favorite Devils pop into the story as well!

Formula Freedom ~ Sawyer Bennett ~ New Release & review

The Race Fever series from New York Times Bestselling Author Sawyer Bennett continues as
one of the hottest drivers to hit the Formula International circuit makes waves across the
racing world in Formula Freedom, a forbidden romance standalone.
Reid Hemsworth is still a relatively new face in the racing world but hasn’t wasted any time
making a name for himself. No stranger to standing on the podium, Reid’s success isn’t all
champagne showers and post-race parties. He may be considered a rising star in the sport,
but to his brother, Lance, Reid stole his chance at racing glory and that can never be
forgiven.
Lara Candlish grew up with the Hemsworth brothers, the three of them wasting away the
hours of their youth riding waves together in the Australian surf. But as they got older and
Reid’s career started to take off, their trio splintered under the weight of Lance’s jealousy. In
the end, one brother had the career and one got the girl, but they both wanted what the other
had.
When Lara finds herself trapped in an increasingly volatile relationship, she turns to the one
man she knows she can trust above anyone else—Reid. Harboring deep feelings for much of
his life, Reid doesn’t hesitate to bring Lara into his inner circle to provide her with the safety
that she needs, no matter how much that might infuriate his brother. Their forced proximity
quickly uncovers feelings he thought he’d left behind and Reid is prepared to act on them. But
when his brother finds out that Reid now has the career and the girl, the situation goes from
bad to worse.
As the relationship between Reid and Lara intensifies, so does the danger, and one truth
becomes abundantly clear. Reid will stop at nothing to protect the one thing he now knows he
can never live without—Lara.

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

I feel bad that it took me so long to finish Formula Freedom! It isn’t that I didn’t like and connect with Lara and Reid, it’s just that real life kept getting in the way.

These two are life long friends that get caught in a bit of a messy situation. There is definitely a sense of them finally being “the right person at the right time” but having drama to get there.
The balance of sport/relationship/drama made this book feel a little more surface level than some of Ms Bennett’s other works. I didn’t feel AS invested in these two as a couple even as I rooted for them.

Formula Freedom is an enjoyable read and it continues the world building for Formula International, but it felt a bit of a stepping stone to the next book. I would have appreciated a bit more of a dive into the triangle surrounding Lara and Reid.

This is the third installment of the ladies behind King & Co investigations, this time focusing on Daisy.
She is paired with Lucien Vaughn, a Duke that has been in her orbit for several years via her brothers.

This was a fun, unique forced proximity story. I enjoyed the sparing between these two as their adventures unfolded. If only they could communicate!

Add in a fun supporting cast and this was a treat of a historical romance that highlights the dichotomy of English Society of the time.

Slightly morally grey hero? Check
Quick attraction/love? Check
Happily ever after? Check

Ms Moreland delivers another entertaining and fun dip back into her morally grey heros with Unexpected Complication when homeless Skylar stumbles into a warehouse she should be in and sees “Tony” do something terrible.

What follows shows the depth of both characters and I ended up liking them very much and rooting for them to be successful.

This cemented Ms Moreland as one of my go to authors as I know I will enjoy each book she writes!

Ms Shalvis gives us a new family to love with the Colburns!
They are 3 brothers and their younger sister running a family business in the small town of Stars Fall. He Falls First features the oldest, Ryder, paired with Penny after her return town.

I loved these two! Both Penny and Ryder have baggage related to family and past relationships. Those wounds have them gun shy, but the grace they gave each other had the whole story feeling like a great big hug!
The slight role reversal of him being the one ready and genuinely giving space for Penny to catch up played a big part in the emotional dynamic of the story.

As with all first in a series stories, this book had to do double duty of telling one story while also laying the ground work for others. The balance here is spot on! The secondary cast is amazing and I can’t wait to see where their stories go.
