Review Round Up ~ November 14

Recent Releases

Knox (Chicago Blaze, #4)Knox by Brenda Rothert

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

Review Copy Purchased by E-Reading After Midnight

With Knox, Ms Rothert returns us to the world of the Chicago Blaze in a heavily connected stand alone story.

Knox is a character that honestly don’t recall seeing too much in the previous books, but I loved getting to know him here. Over the course of the book we find out that Know is really like a truffle - hard deliciousness on the outside with a sweet, soft center.

His love interest, Reese, is a fun character to get to know. I appreciated the way she responded to adversity and channeled that into something bigger and better for herself.

Together, this couple was awesome. They were the perfect combination of instant chemistry combined with a slow burn/friendship. Knox is a well written and fast paced book. There were some things I would have liked to have more time with, but overall things were well balanced. The conflicts in the story were organic to who the couple is and flowed well with the rest of the story.

My one caution would be for readers new to the series. The secondary cast (primarily the other players) is heavy with people who have been in previous books in either a primary or secondary role. Having read some of the previous books would definitely help with understanding the relationships discussed. Having said that, don’t let it stop you from reading Knox if this is the best place to start.

Not the Girl You MarryNot the Girl You Marry by Andie J. Christopher

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy Provided by publisher via Net Galley

Not the Girl You Marry is a book I picked up to review based strictly on the blurb as the author is new to me.
The premise of the book puts a spin on the “fake relationship with a purpose” trope that was unique and had me curious about who these people would be.

The author included a note at the beginning of the book about how some of her personal experiences influenced the heroine’s attitudes. Having that information was helpful - knowing that Hannah’s experiences and her resulting thought process was even somewhat based real experiences made me more open to seeing where she was coming from and how she responded to some of Jack’s behaviors.

Overall, I liked Jack and Hannah. Both characters were interesting and a bit different than those I’ve seen before. I appreciated the emotional growth that both experienced, I could especially (and I think most woman can) relate to Hannah’s experience and how history influences how she responds.

The plot and pacing of the story was entertaining, but I felt like there were places were the cross purposes being worked on could have been explored a bit more for the humor aspect. There were times the story felt a bit heavy. My other concern/ complaint was some of the language used - and I don’t mean the f bomb, etc- I mean some of the “headline” words that I’m not sure are mainstream yet. (I had to google a couple of things).

This is a book that I liked and I will definitely be exploring more by this author, there are just a few small things that fall under the “ maybe think about this” list.

Wait for Me ~ Tia Louise ~ Cover Reveal

Dear Taron,
I should have told you this before...

Dear Taron,

Is there a time-limit on forgiveness?
If there is, I haven't reached it...

Dear Taron,
I still love you...

Taron Rhodes was my brother’s best friend.

He was sexy as sin.
But he was more than that…
He was ponytail-pulling, ice down your shirt teasing, throw you in the lake screaming…
Strong, tanned arms and bright green eyes over a heart-stopping, naughty grin…
Did I mention his tight end?
I gave him my first real kiss, my heart, my everything.
I said I’d wait for him…

I’m still waiting, because Taron Rhodes is still the man of my dreams,
And I have a secret that has his bright green eyes.

Noel LaGrange stole my heart when she was only eighteen—pushing me off a flatbed and calling me a city slicker.
Her brother Sawyer would kick my ass if he knew how many times we made out that summer, how close we got.

Everything changed when Sawyer and I joined the military.
We were honorably discharged, but I didn’t go to her.
Instead, I went back to the city… where no amount of money, no amount of pills can heal this wound.
Only her whiskey eyes and dark hair, her slim arms and her sweet scent, give me hope.
I broke her heart just as surely as I broke mine, but I’m going back to make it right.
If she’s still waiting…

(WAIT FOR ME is a STAND-ALONE small-town, second-chance romance with a guaranteed HEA. No cheating. No cliffhangers.)

Insatiable by Melanie Harlow ~ Blog Tour

Insatiable - BT banner

“Absolute magic!”

—Helena Hunting, New York Times bestselling author

Insatiable, an all-new fun and flirty friends to lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow is available now!

Insatiable AMAZON
I didn’t mean to see him naked--it was an accident.
It had to be, right?
Because Noah McCormick and I have never been anything more than friends. In all the years I’ve known him, he’s never once laid a finger on me. And even though he was a cute lifeguard at 16 and a hotter-than-hell sheriff’s deputy at 34, he's always been that protective guy I could trust to keep his hands to himself. I never wanted to mess with that.
Until I walked in on him getting out of the shower and saw his hard, muscular body totally bare and dripping wet. At that moment I never wanted to mess with anything so badly in my entire life.
I should have covered my eyes. Said I was sorry. At the very least, I could have handed him a towel.
After all, I was only in town for a few days, and he was just doing me a favor by escorting me to my sister’s wedding. It wasn’t a real date.
But I didn’t apologize. And he didn’t cover up.
(Talk about a hot mess.)
After all those years of being just friends, suddenly we’re insatiable.
He’s made it clear he’s not interested in romance. Which is fine with me because
I’ve got a plane ticket back to my real life at the end of the week.
It’s all in fun...or is it?

Excerpt:
Sawyer?” I said in disbelief. Breaking into a huge grin, she started to run. I was still standing there in shock when she barreled into me, throwing her arms around my neck. She smelled fucking fantastic. Feminine, sweet, delectable. “What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to hug her back without getting sweat or paint on her. “I thought you didn’t get in until Thursday.” “I changed my ticket.” She let go just enough to smile up at me impishly. “I’m glad to see you too.” I laughed. “I’m glad to see you. You just surprised me is all.” “That was my plan.” She stepped back, and I figured my odor was probably repulsing her. “I stink, sorry. I went for a run earlier and I never showered. Then I painted the garage.” “I never mind the smell of sweat. It means hard work.” She brightened. “Will you run tomorrow? I’d love to go with you. “Sure. We can run tomorrow. I’m off again.” “Great! Although I’m probably way out of shape.” She made a face. “My work schedule is so crazy, I don’t run as much as I used to.” “You look great,” I told her. And it was true—she did look great. Maybe not quite as skinny as the last time I’d seen her, but the added curves looked good on her. My eyes wandered without my brain’s permission to her slightly fuller chest and rounder hips. Quickly, I attempted to look at her face again, but then my gaze lingered on her mouth. I remembered what it had looked like the other night in my fantasy as she’d wrapped her lips around my cock and moaned like it was the best thing she’d ever tasted. My dick twitched beneath my running shorts, and I cleared my throat. “You’ve got a favorite murder? Is there something I need to know?” She glanced down at her shirt and smiled. “It’s a podcast about true crime. I’m addicted.” “Never heard of it.” A sound of exasperation escaped her. “You live under a rock! I can’t believe you’re still not on social media.” “Yes, you can.” “Okay, I can, but it makes it really hard to stalk you.” I shook my head. “People like you are exactly why I don’t want to be on social media.” She hit me on the shoulder. “I’m kidding! I just want to keep up with your life. I miss you.” “So come home more often. Talk to my face.” She grinned. “I do like seeing your face. Want to go grab a beer? Maybe some food?” “Sure.”

Elizabeth's Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

Insatiable takes us back to Cloverleigh Farm in Michigan to reconnect with the Sawyer sisters in the third book of the series. This interconnected stand alone focuses on Meg. We haven’t seen a lot of her up to this point as she has been living in Washington DC. A personal shake up has Meg returning earlier than expected for youngest sister, Frannie’s, wedding and reconnecting with life long friend, Noah.

From a character stand point, I found myself genuinely liking Meg, Noah, and the secondary cast of siblings, parents, and friends. They are people I could see myself hanging out with.

On the story/plot front, I appreciated that Meg was facing a bit of a cross roads and how she handled things. It was sweet to see her lean on her sisters and really listen to herself as she was trying to decide the direction she wanted life to go. For Noah - his journey was a bit different. It was fun to see him open himself up to Meg even when it violated his own sense of masculinity. The impact his siblings had on his decision making just highlighted the potential he and Meg had to be a good fit.

Insatiable is a well written family centric, friends to lovers story. It continues the excellent world building around the Cloverleigh Farm/Sawyer sisters, but new readers to the series could easily start here. If you have been following the series, you will be glad for glimpses of previous characters. There are also hints about what maybe coming, but this is very definitely Meg’s story.

I enjoyed the balance Ms Harlow had in Insatiable. Not only is there a romantic relationship, but family relationships play key roles in the story. Add in the emotional elements that Meg, Noah, and several of the secondary characters are dealing with and you have a must read story.

A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land.
An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny.
