Gia Riley is an author whose books have been sitting in my TBR for a while and I am so glad I finally had a chance to read her work.
I started In Pieces this afternoon and honestly had to make myself put the kindle down to do things like eat dinner, talk to my parents, and put my kids to bed - the story pulled me in that much and I was almost disappointed when the story was over.
We meet Kinsley as she begins her senior year in high school and it's impossible not to like her. This poor girl has been through the absolute ringer and is plowing through to get where she wants to be in life. On that first day of school, Kinsley has an encounter with Rhett and this fantastic, wonderful boy changes the course of her life.
At first, I thought this was just a really well written story of young love. Rhett had to work to convince Kinsley he was for real, but the more I listened to him and watched how he acted with her it was easy to see that she was very lucky to find him so young. Rhett, especially when seem from Kinsley point of view had moments of being way too good to be true, but we learn that even though he’s been attracted to Kinsley for a long time, he has not been an angel while waiting to approach her. Kinsley's unusual home situation adds some conflict to their relationship, but they continue as a strong couple until they get a massive curve ball. How Kinsley's brother and her best friend handled the curve ball is my one complaint about In Pieces. Their reaction didn't really make sense to me and why they behaved the way they did was never really addressed or even brought up again as the story moved forward. Rhett and Kinsley both displayed an unusual amount of emotional maturity as they dealt with the situation, although my heart broke for her in a couple of places as they were getting things figured out.
The supporting cast of In Pieces is small, but very impactful to our characters and their behavior. I loved Kinsley and Rhett and had so much fun rooting for them. Now, I need to back and read Ms. Riley's other books!

EXCERPT

When I open my eyes, I meet hers. They’re wide and full of confusion, maybe a touch of horror, too. “How—Why—Did we...?” She shakes her head then throws her leg over mine, scrambling off me. I watch her as she runs her hands over her clothes and through her hair, and her expression makes me laugh. “Did you know you snore when you sleep?” “I do not!” Snatching a pillow from the floor where I tossed it last night, she lobs it at my face, but I catch it one-handed before it can reach its target. “You’re right. You were too exhausted to do much more than drool.” Her eyes flare and I can tell she’s about to scream, so I decide to take mercy on her and put her mind at ease to save myself the ruptured eardrum. “Don’t worry, princess. Your virtue, or what’s left of it, is still intact.” She scowls down at me, but when she speaks her voice is soft and filled with doubt. “We didn’t sleep together?” “Oh, we slept together,” I say as I push myself up and place my bare feet on the floor. “Just not in the way you’re hoping.” “Oh, get over yourself. Believe it or not, not every woman in the world wants to sleep with you.” With sharp movements, she strides toward the stairs. I watch her go for a moment before remembering that I can match her pace now, and then I get up and go after her. “You’re right. Not every woman in the world wants a piece of me. Although, they’d be crazy not to.” She glowers at me as we reach the top of the stairs, but her eyes betray her as they fall to my bare chest. She wants me just as much as I want her, and when she lifts her gaze back to mine, I wink at her. Huffing, she picks up her pace. “But you know what I’ve come to realize?” I ask. Taking two large steps, I reach her bedroom before she does and plant myself in the opening, blocking her entry. Her expression twists and I can see the rage burning in her eyes. “What?” she snaps. “What is this big revelation?” Again, her gaze drops to my chest, then falls to my abs, then comes back up, sweeping over my arms, which I cross over my chest because it makes the muscles look bigger. I love her attitude. It’s the right mix of pissed off and intrigued. She can’t resist me and she knows it, and that’s what’s got her all riled up. I can read the truth all over her. I decide to enlighten her. “What I’ve come to realize is that it doesn’t matter how many women want me, just which woman wants me. And there’s only one woman whose opinion of me matters right now.” I hold her narrowed gaze until dawning lights in them. For a split second, the little lines around her eyes vanish and I almost think she might smile, but she recovers herself quickly. “Keywords: right now. I wasn’t born yesterday, Levi, so don’t presume me to be one of your nitwit groupies who can’t tell the difference between the truth and a crappy pickup line.” With more strength than I would have guessed her to have, Vista places her hands on my chest and shoves. Knocking me off balance, I fall back a couple steps, just enough to give her room to pass. “So you’re saying I need to work on my technique?” Gripping the door, she’s practically seething as she stares up at me. “I’m saying you need to find yourself a different practice dummy.” Then she slams the door in my face. A smile tugs at my lips. Vista has more guts than I realized. No woman has ever turned me down. Up until last night, I thought that was pretty damn awesome. I never understood why some men got off on chasing women around, dating, and buying them things to earn their attention. Now, I’m beginning to appreciate the thrill of the chase. Is that what Vista’s looking for, a guy who will chase her? Leaning in, I push my face close to the door so I know she’ll hear me. “You know what I think, Vista?” Her silence only spurs me on. “I don’t think you want me to go away. I think you want me to chase you. Well, princess, you’ve got your wish, because you’re the only dummy I want to chase.” Something slams against the door and bounces twice on the floor. A shoe? Throwing my head back I belt out a laugh. Damn, she’s a spitfire. Game on.

Truth or Dare ~ Aimee McNeil

✺★✺BLOG TOUR ✺★✺

TRUTH OR DARE
A new adult, contemporary romance
Author: Aimee McNeil
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

“Choose TRUTH and risk exposing your heart
Choose DARE and risk exposing everything else…”
Amazon.co.uk http://goo.gl/N5z7Jh

✺SYNOPSIS✺
Sophie Rogers has left her demons in the past and finally has her life under control…
Three years after leaving high school, where she was endlessly tormented by the school’s golden couple, Sophie has her art degree nearly in hand. Juggling two jobs, she prides herself on her focus and determination to ensure her independence.
Until Ashton King saunters back into her life as a nude model for her art class…
Ashton and Lucinda had made it their mission to make Sophie’s life miserable from the moment she walked into their lives. But now, with Lucinda out of the picture and Sophie back in his sights, Ashton changes the rules of the game and takes it to a whole new level.
Sophie is thrown back into the turmoil she thought was long behind her…
Ashton’s body is made for sin, and his icy blue eyes scorch her with feelings too intense for a heart as scarred as Sophie’s to bear. Glimpses of another side of Ashton give her a flash of hope, but his deceptions run much deeper than she ever dreamed.
Truth or Dare…Which would you choose?
✺EXCERPT✺
Ashton sauntered in, making his jogging pants and t-shirt look ridiculously sexy. He walked toward the cabinet, retrieving two glasses and a bottle of whiskey. He filled the glasses with ice before pulling out the stool next to Sophie. She glanced up at him questioningly, unsure what his mood would be. He filled both glasses before sliding one in front of her. “Your favorite,” he teased. She watched his hands and noticed that even they were sensual and perfect. She couldn’t stop thoughts of how they would feel running over her naked body.
“How sweet, you remembered.” She smiled sarcastically.
He laughed then, a deep beautiful sound that showed a side of him that had always seemed so out of reach. His genuine smile was stunning and perfect upon his strong masculine face. He sipped the amber fluid from his glass like it was water. He didn’t mind the burning sensation and strong flavor that made her feel like she was swallowing household cleaner, without the refreshing lemon scent to accompany it.
“Let me see this.” Ashton picked up her tablet and angled it away from her.
“What are you doing?” She grabbed at it but Ashton pulled it out of her reach. “You’re making me nervous.” Sophie complained.
“Don’t I always?” He smiled before setting it back down in front of her. A truth or dare game was displayed on the screen. “Truth or dare?” he asked playfully.
“Oh god…really?” Sophie asked in disbelief.
“Are you chicken?” Ashton baited her.
“Fine…truth,” Sophie caved. Ashton picked up the tablet and selected truth.
He leaned in close to her ear. “What were you thinking when you were staring at me tonight?” Ashton asked mischievously, his gaze unwavering.
“That’s not what it says. You’re cheating.” Sophie tried to take the tablet from his hands but he refused to let her take it.
“You said you would play.” He raised his eyebrow.
“Argh…” Sophie picked up the glass of whiskey and took a generous sip, causing her to cough through the burning sensation. “I thought you looked nice.”
“Nice? Come on. I saw the way you were looking at me.” He pushed.
“I thought you looked incredibly hot. Okay? Are you happy now?” Sophie said impudently. Heat flooded her cheeks at her confession. “It’s not like you didn’t already know that.”
“I didn’t know that you thought that.” Ashton’s expression softened a bit.
“Like it matters,” she added as she rolled her eyes.
“It does.” He looked deep into her eyes like he was searching for something. Sophie broke the connection as the heat became too intense.
“Your turn. Truth or dare?” She held up the tablet.
“Truth,” he answered without hesitation.
“Do you want to kiss me?” The words were out of her mouth before she realized it. She wanted to take them back immediately but they were already out there, hanging between them.
“Yes,” he answered truthfully. “Truth or dare?”
“Dare.” Sophie didn’t want to make any more confessions that she would regret later. Was this thing between them still a game?
A slow smile curled the edges of his full lips. “Take off your shirt.”

3 Stars - Average Read

Review Copy provided by author

This is my first book by Ms. McNeil and I felt like it was a story that had a lot of unfulfilled promise. I was intrigued by the premise of the book. Sophie, our heroine, was the subject of bullying in high school at the hands of Ashton (our hero) and his then girlfriend. Fast forward several years and Sophie runs into a very different Ashton and a romance sparks. As much as I liked the premise, and even some of the early devices used in the book, I found both characters frustrating. Sophie has self esteem issues and is incredibly naive about certain aspects of life, much more so that I would have expected for someone who had her childhood experiences. Combine the naivete with trust issues and we have a character that is somewhat hard to relate too. Ashton is equally confusing. He claims that he has loved Sophie from the day he met her, but he spent years being part of her torment and runs hot and cold with her now. We combine the character issues with how everything just magically starts falling into place for Sophie and things start to take on a hard to believe aspect. Overall, this is a story that I enjoyed, but felt like didn't live up to it's full potential. I would have like to have seen Ashton have to work a little harder to get the girl.

The Reluctant Duchess ~ Sharon Cullen

Perfect for fans of Mary Balogh and Eloisa James, Sharon Cullen’s seductive new historical romance ignites as a shy country girl and a hotheaded duke surrender to dangerous temptations. Lady Sara Emerson was jolted out of her dull provincial life by her cousin’s murder. Now that the killer seems to be targeting her, Sara seeks help from the man who was once her cousin’s fiancé, Gabriel Ferguson, Duke of Rossmoyne. With his towering frame and fiery personality, Ross cuts an intimidating figure. Living under his protection, however, has its own hazards—like the sudden urge Sara feels to take their relationship in new, exquisitely inappropriate directions. Dazzled by the social graces of his betrothed, Ross never noticed her shy, blushing cousin. Looking at Sara now, though, he’s drawn to her lovely eyes and calm disposition. Funny how a year away from the hustle and bustle of the tonchanges a man. But Ross has no intention of allowing a woman to interfere with his plan to return overseas. He will simply capture the murderer and set sail once again. The problem is, with her beguiling lips and heavenly touch, Sara makes him never want to leave home—or his bed—again.

This is a fun spin on the historical romance in Victorian England. Lady Sara begins receiving threatening letters and turns to her cousin's former fiancee, Ross, for help. The story that follows allows Sara and Ross to spend time together in a manner that is unconventional for the time period and they get to know each other in a way that most couples of their social standing would not. Both Sara and Ross are great characters. Sara has several insecurities that she is dealing with and the longer she is with Ross the more she blossoms into a strong and lovely woman. I loved the possessive streak Ross showed and the lengths he went to protect and support Sara. The supporting cast is small, but all play important roles in helping to move the story along. I would love to know a little more of the back story between Sara and her adoptive parents as it seems to impact her view of herself. This is my first book by Ms. Cullen and after reading The Reluctant Duchess, I would love to read more.

I contributed a holiday novella with the crew from Lighter and Weightless called Drifting.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on completing, In Pieces, releasing Nov 10th! I’m also patiently awaiting the release of two holiday novellas. I have two other books started that I’m itching to get to. They’ll be released in 2016.
Do you get to write full time or do you also have a “day” job?
I’m a behavioral therapist, but currently, I’m writing full-time along with my mommy duties.
Favorite part of being an author?
Meeting readers, blogger, and fellow authors. Some of my very best friends are people I’ve never met in person.
Scariest part of being an author?
Putting your work on display for the world to judge.
Who are your favorites to read?
You realize how impossible of a question this is, right? Oh man. Where do I begin? I have a serious lady crush on Jodi Ellen Malpas since she created MY Jesse Ward. I’ve also fallen in love with the words from so many other authors, too. I’ve read the Thoughtless Series more times than I care to count. My son’s middle name is Kellen. In my defense, he was pre-Kellan Kyle.
If You could have one super power, what would it be?
The ability to read minds. I’m a people watcher and love figuring out what makes people tick.
One piece of advice to an aspiring writer?
Don’t expect perfection with the first draft. Write what your head is begging you to get out. Then, go back and rewrite all of it with your heart.
Where can we find you?

Kinky Sexy Dirty ~ Christine Reiss Cover Reveal

Now Available for Pre-order!

 Release Date: March 28th

Cocky. Sexy. Charming. Out of my league.
That's Dash Wallace. A toe-curling, sheet-ripping mistake waiting to happen. It would be helpful if he'd stop moving with the grace of a hungry cat. Or staring at me with his thumb stroking the stitches of his World Series ball. We're talking about the game but all I can think about is how much of my body he can cover with those hands. It's keeping me from concentrating on what his lips are saying. Which is dirty. All dirty. I have to gird my freaking loins against this guy. I'm determined to know his secrets and he seems determined to get into my pants. Sleeping with him could ruin everything, and let's face it, I don't trust him enough to let him anywhere near me.
Smart. Witty. Direct. Sexy as a fastball low and inside.
That's Vivian Foster. A real pistol with legs till Tuesday. I can't get around her. She has a way of asking me one thing and meaning another, which I'd manage fine if I could get my mind off all the things I want to do to her. On the desk. In bed. With-a-feather-blindfolded-and-her-hands-tied-to-the-headboard kinds of things. She doesn't trust me. Just like everyone else, she thinks I gambled against my own team. She's wrong, and I'm going to prove it.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles. Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Stalk Her: Facebook | Twitter | Website | Goodreads | Pinterest | Instagram

Author Note:
You’re going to notice that the cover doesn’t say CD Reiss. It has a real first name, and it’s a name I’ve always been grateful to have. I’ve discovered that The Submission Series is considered quite dark and scary to some readers. I didn’t realize that when I wrote it. I was just turning myself on. So, in the interests of making it easy for new readers to separate the lighter from the darker, I’ll be using a full first name on some of my new work. CD Reiss will be the darker stuff. Everything from Submission to Perdition and what’s in between (and darker, if I have it in me). I’m going to label lighter stuff with Christine Reiss. I missed Shuttergirl and it may be too late to change that. But going forward, any fun kink that doesn’t go into serious pain up to light, fun romance will be Christine Reiss. Kinky Sexy Dirty will straddle the line. Since it’s kinky without being as dark as Submission I think it’s a great place to start with the new pen name. I’ll be promoting from the same accounts, same email lists, same everything. So fear not, this shouldn’t create confusion, only clarity.
