“Ian,” my bartender, Toby, calls with his hand out. “What’s up?” “You have a call.” He pushes the phone toward me. No one calls the club for me other than vendors, and it’s eleven-thirty at night, so whoever it is can wait. “I have to deal with something now, send them to my voicemail.” He shakes his head. “She’s called three times.” The annoyance in his voice is clear, even over the music. She? The only woman that would resort to calling the club is my ex-wife. God only knows what bullshit she wants now. For all I know she broke a nail, it’s my fault, and she thinks I should pay for her new manicure, or a hand replacement. We don’t get along at all—partly because we’re polar opposites and partly because of our history—but no one gets to make her cry. “Are you hurt?” I ask. “Not in the way you think.” Her voice hitches. I’ve known London for twenty-five years. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen or heard her cry—I was the reason one of those times. “What’s wrong? Is it an emergency? Because I’m at work and the club—” “Now, Ian. You need to come here now.” She also doesn’t play games. Fuck. I look at my watch and blow a deep breath through my nose. It’ll take me at least thirty minutes to get there. This is seriously a shitty night. “I’ll be there as soon as I can.” “Just . . . hurry,” London says and hangs up. Dread pulls at my stomach, telling me there’s something going on. I don’t know what, but I know I need to get there. “Get rid of the line, no more get in,” I tell the bouncer, and then head inside. Drea is at the bar, and my anxiety is starting to grow. London needs me there, why? What happened? Did someone break into her house? Mine? Maybe it has to do with an ex, if she even has one, or it could be nothing like that. Regardless, her voice was shaky and I can’t waste time wondering. “I have to go,” I tell Drea. Her eyes widen. “Go? Go where? It’s a packed house.” “I’m aware of that, but something came up. I need you to handle things tonight.” I turn to Toby. “Stay until Drea is done closing and I want you to escort her to her car at the end of the night.” He nods. Three hundred missing and presumed dead.” My sister was going to Hawaii. My sister is gone. I sink to my knees in front of the kids, unsure what to say. They just lost their parents, and my heart is breaking. My sister was my best friend. She was the one who pushed me to open Veil and do what I wanted. I’ve always had her support, and now she’s gone. Christopher lifts his head, his brown eyes filled with unshed tears. “They’ll find them,” he says with conviction. “Okay,” I reply. We both know it’s a lie, but it’s one he has to tell himself. I remember being fifteen; there was no telling me I was wrong. “Dad wouldn’t . . .” he starts, and then stops as his lip quivers. This was a great debut effort for the new collaboration of Ms Harlow and Ms Michaels.
From the set up - a nearly 20 year old heartbreak and lost love forced to work together for the needs of someone else- to the evolution- to the end, this was an enjoyable read.

I liked Ian and London and appreciated the efforts they expended to work together for the benefit of loved ones and how they started to mend broken fences between each other.
The thing that kept this from being a higher rated read for me was the fact that their arguments with each other were always the same, they never seemed to really resolve anything or learn from their mistakes. The repetition in the arguments made me start to skim a little and I hate that because you never know when you might miss something.

Given that this is basically a debut novel, it is very well written - I wouldn’t expect less from two veteran authors- and a book that was hard to put down once I started. The one piece I wish that had been resolved for us, was what happened with London’s job. It was such a key piece to her character that I would have liked to know the conclusion to that story line.

Blood Cure is the conclusion to the trilogy and is the book that makes the whole series work. I struggled a little bit with books 1&2, but this book made it all worth it. This picks up right where Blood Match leaves off, so this is definitely not a stand alone. Reyna has a maturity level in this book that makes it much easier to like her as a character and to root for her success.

This story is packed with action and intrigue from the get go, there are twists and turn that keep you on your toes and make the book hard to put down. As much as this has action and intrigue, there is also a strong romantic story that comes from somewhere unexpected.

Well written and engaging, this is definitely a book/series to read if you like paranormal and battles between good and evil.

This was a fun read about two secondary characters in the Quantum universe.
Leah and Emmett end up being a much different couple than I expected from the way the book started and I enjoyed the lighter take this story provided. Both characters still come with some baggage - it’s kind of a given with this group- but it doesn’t seem to be the soul ripping variety we’ve seen with other couples. There was a lot of humor in this book and it made the emotional evolution of both characters as pleasure to watch.
Outrageous can be read as a stand alone, but I think it would lose a lot of the punch without the backstory the previous books provide; especially as there are multiple references to events featured in past books. As much as this is Leah and Emmett’s story, it’s a catch up with other characters - and that’s probably my one complaint - there are a couple of places where Ms Force switches to the POV of supporting characters. The deviation from Leah/Emmett telling the story was a bit jarring and did pull me from the story a bit.
This is a series that has been very entertaining- I am hoping to see a book for Marlowe soon!

Bishop by Sawyer Bennett

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a friend

If you have enjoyed Ms Bennett’s Cold Fury hockey series, then this series will be right up your alley.
Well written and entertaining, I was pulled into Bishop’s story right from the beginning and could see the good guy underneath the playboy.
All of the characters were interesting and engaging and I appreciated the fact that Bishop was given multiple chances to screw up. You’ll have to read the book to find out if he passed those tests or not!
One of the things I really liked about this book is the fact that Ms Bennett was able to tell us Bishop and Brooke’s story while also building the world that will be the Vengeance series. Both things were done very well, and the quality of the story stood out because of it.
These are two characters that I liked and enjoyed seeing their somewhat unlikely connection. I am looking forward to getting to know the guys on the team a little bit better.

 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4.5 Stars - One of the Best

This is a book I picked up on sale a while ago based strictly on the recommendation of J A DeRouen, an author’s whose work I enjoy.
It’s fun to sometimes go into a book blind and this is a read that definitely rewarded the effort.
Well written and intriguing, the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo tells a tale that was as unexpected as it was raw. I was captivated hearing Evelyn’s story from her point of view. There were times when her truth was uncomfortable, but it was hard not to feel for her at the same time.
Monique is a secondary character and facilities Evelyn’s story, but has a unique tale of her own.
Both women and the web of characters around them were worth getting to know. Several hard topics were addressed - including what Love really means.
This author is new to me, but I will be seeking out more of her work in the future.

This was a fun read about two secondary characters in the Quantum universe.
Leah and Emmett end up being a much different couple than I expected from the way the book started and I enjoyed the lighter take this story provided. Both characters still come with some baggage - it’s kind of a given with this group- but it doesn’t seem to be the soul ripping variety we’ve seen with other couples. There was a lot of humor in this book and it made the emotional evolution of both characters as pleasure to watch.
Outrageous can be read as a stand alone, but I think it would lose a lot of the punch without the backstory the previous books provide; especially as there are multiple references to events featured in past books. As much as this is Leah and Emmett’s story, it’s a catch up with other characters - and that’s probably my one complaint - there are a couple of places where Ms Force switches to the POV of supporting characters. The deviation from Leah/Emmett telling the story was a bit jarring and did pull me from the story a bit.
This is a series that has been very entertaining- I am hoping to see a book for Marlowe soon!
