Until I Met You ~ SL Scott~ Excerpt

Their love burned bright, white hot, and strikingly blue around the edges. Some thought them careless. Some thought them crazy. No one approved. Taylor Barrett was looking for answers in a universe that had abandoned him. Jude Boehler flooded her dark world with charisma and mystery, drawing everyone into her hurricane. It was a most captivating of love affairs. They were shooting stars, meteors in the sky, colliding to create a spectacularly wonderful reckless romance, leaving them breathless and tethered. But that’s what Love does. Their souls were exposed to the chaos, bare and vulnerable. Can these two star-crossed lovers survive the madness that is life?

 Excerpt:

“Do you want ice cream?” She hit him with one surprise after another, and he replied, “It’s freezing out here. How about a coffee?” “I don’t like coffee.” “Wow, a New Yorker who doesn’t like coffee.” Taking her by the arm, he stopped her. “Are you going to tell me anything about yourself?” “I just told you I don’t like coffee. That’s something.” He sighed. “I’m serious, Jude.” His emotional sigh was wearing on her and she gave him the most honest answer she could. “Not if I can get away with it.” He looked into her blue eyes. Under a bright fluorescent light of a convenience store, he could see they were tinged in green with champagne centers. They were the most unique eyes he had ever seen. She was the most unique woman he had ever met. Now he felt bad for making her unhappy, so he broke his gaze away. “Fine. I’ll limit my questions.” And just to see her smile again, he said, “Ice cream it is.” She jumped for joy. “I know a great place a few blocks from here.” “Should we catch a cab?” “No, I love the snow. It’s magical.” Looking down the street and then back to her, he started wondering when he’d stopped seeing magic in the world. He could probably guess, but he didn’t want to think about that time. A half hour later, his hands were frozen but he still found himself eating pistachio ice cream with Jude for dinner. He bought the treats and joined her at a booth where she was contentedly licking her rocky road. As soon as he sat down, she asked, “I think you can tell everything you need to know about a person by their favorite ice cream flavor.”

Excerpt

“Thank fuck!” Sam said, swinging the door open before Devon even had the car in park. “Oh, this isn’t my place. We’re just dropping Devon off. I’m about twenty minutes across town?” I tossed him a sugary smile then boldly shifted my hand into his lap, purposely brushing the bulge under his denim. Grabbing my wrist, he narrowed his eyes and called out, “Devon, I’m gonna need to borrow a bedroom.” I burst out laughing as Devon cursed loudly. “Fine. This is my place. No smoking inside though,” I snipped as I climbed from the SUV. “You better have some seriously exciting extracurricular activities to keep me distracted, then.” “I have Ping-Pong!” “Not exactly what I was thinking.” He mischievously cocked his head. “But I guess paddles and balls are as good a start as any.” Dipping down, he hoisted me over his shoulder. “Point me to the Ping-Pong table, my lady.” I didn’t. I laughed hysterically as he carried me inside. Then I directed him to my bedroom instead. I heard Devon locking up the house as Sam deposited me on the bed. “Jesus. This view.” He pushed the curtains back. “Why the hell would you ever go up to the bridge when you have this here?” “I don’t know,” I answered, pulling my earrings off and placing them on my nightstand. Oh, but I knew. It might not have been what had originally sent me up that bridge, but it was why my feet carried me back every night. And that very reason was currently standing in front of me with entirely too much clothing on. “You want a beer?” I asked, sliding my shoes off. “Nah, I’m good.” He faced me, and I could tell something was off with his demeanor. He didn’t inch any closer. Instead, his lips were tight and his eyes uncomfortably flashed around the room. It suddenly didn’t feel like Sam standing in front of me at all. He felt like a stranger who had just come face-to-face with Levee Williams. Damn it. “Why are you looking at me like that? Are you about to freak out?” I whispered, nervously moistening my lips. He shoved his hands into his pockets. “I’m not really sure yet. But I’m gonna need you to stop licking your lips long enough for me to figure it out.” His mouth cracked into a wide grin, and my shoulders relaxed. Now that was a flash of my Sam. “Want to tell me what’s going on?” I asked. “It’s just… I think this is the first time I’ve realized that you’re some big-time celebrity. I might be in over my head here, Designer Shoes.” “I just make music, Sam.” I returned his smile and very slowly prowled in his direction. “Imagine how I feel though. You’re Samuel Nathan Rivers. A tough, tattooed furniture designer who makes six figures a year but is too afraid to tell his mommy he votes democratic.” I giggled as he frowned humorously. Stopping in front of him, I dragged a fingernail down his chest then teased the waistband of his jeans. “Have you considered that maybe I’m the one who’s in over her head here?” I leaned forward to nip at his lips, but he spun us around. “Excellent point. I’m going to need you to try really hard to keep it together, Levee. You haven’t even seen my six-pack and huge cock, yet.” He smirked and attempted to return my nip, but I stepped out of his reach. “You brought beer and chicken?” I feigned excitement. That one corny joke was all it took to bring my Sam back completely. With a sexy smile and a coy shrug, he seductively backed me toward the bed. “What can I say? I like to be prepared.” “Clearly,” I breathed. He moved in close so his lips were only a centimeter away, but for as much as I wanted him, it was agonizing. “Clearly,” he repeated, his smoky yet sweet breath breezing across my mouth. His strong arm looped around my waist, tugging me against his chest, while I stared into his hooded eyes, eagerly waiting for him to make a move. Any move. Every move.

I have been a fan of Sawyer Bennett for a while, but this was my first experience in her Legal Affairs series and I'm kicking myself for not checking this series out before. One of the things I have always enjoyed about Ms. Bennett's work are her smart, savvy heroines and Leary Michaels fits that mold perfectly. In Friction, she is paired with and against Reeve Holloway, an equally intelligent and sexy fellow lawyer. Leary and Reeve meet when they are opposing each other in court. Their initial interaction makes steam come off the page and things just get hotter from there. Between the well balanced work interactions and sexual tension, there are no slow moments in this book. The reader is pulled in and can't help falling a little bit in love with both of these characters. There is a small, but interesting and important supporting cast in this latest entry to the Legal Affairs series. Friction will be an enjoyable read for die hard Sawyer Bennett fans and new followers alike. Now that I've had a taste of this series, you can bet I will be back for more Legal Affairs.

Meet the Author ~ Briana Pacheco

Please welcome Briana Pacheco to our Meet the Author feature... Make sure to say hi and check out her work.

Published work
Don’t Let Me Fall – a dark New Adult Romance novel

What are you working on now?
I’m currently in the process of writing two books. Yes, I know, I’m crazy. One is Let Her Go, a friends-to-lovers book, which I had to put on hold because it will be heavy and I needed to take some time to get the emotions right. The second book, Sounds of Yesterday, a second chance romance, is currently blurbless and only 60 pages in. I know what you’re thinking, she’s a mess. I really am. I hope to get so much done over the next few months so I can publish these two books.

Do you get to write full time or do you also have a “day” job?
I get to write full time and I’m so grateful for that! I am thinking of college and being an adult but for now, writing is my passion and that is what I’ll do!

Favorite part of being an author?
I’ve met so many awesome people! The book world is so welcoming and caring. I don’t think I’ll ever meet ‘regular’ people like them. People who love to read because they want to are my kind of people. There’s nothing better than opening a book for the first time and losing yourself in the words.

Scariest part of being an author?
Being seen! I think I’m the shyest person on the planet so promoting and having my book out in the world, terrifies me at times.

Who are your favorites to read?
I have many but if a book by Cheryl McIntyre, Lex Martin, Kimberly Rose, Whitney Barbetti, and Autumn Doughton are published, it’s an automatic one-click. I love emotional reads and I’m addicted to the New Adult genre so I always keep a look out for a new release by any author.

If you had $1 million to giveaway, what would you do with the money?
Oh, boy. I should say ‘help whoever needs help, charities, etc.’ but I’m going to be selfish for a moment and say I’d help my mother out first. She raised my siblings and I as a single mother ever since we were young toddlers and it wasn’t easy. She always put us first and never took the time to do something for herself. I’d buy her a house and spoil her rotten then figure out what to do with the rest of the money.

One piece of advice to an aspiring writer?
Just do it! Write. Don’t ever stop. Whenever your characters talk to you, listen.

Where can we find you?

Freya Nissan grew up knowing that she was different. A free spirit, an outsider, a maverick who sees beyond the confines of her human world. She’s the soulful, idle daydreamer of her sleepy English village, who no one believes will ever amount to much…until the day she does. Her visionary beliefs spark in her a passion to bring to life the dreams she has at night — dreams of journeying to other realms (entire worlds that exist alongside of and even intertwine with the Earth we live on now). And as this story embarks, Freya disappears from her village in search of a discovery that will change her forever. Christian Delaney died a long time ago. From that day to this he has been waiting for a love that seems determined to elude him…until the day Freya appears. The inter-dimensional love story that unfolds between them proves to be as unique as it is troublesome, for not all are enchanted by Freya’s capabilities and for daring to be different she and Christian might just pay the ultimate price. This series debut from bestselling author Annabel Fanning delivers a thrilling and compelling tale of adventure, love, and believing in your dreams.

 Excerpt:
“So, where am I?” I ask nervously, walking forward and hoping that this awkward feeling will disappear very soon. But before I can get an answer, I stumble over my own feet and fall forwards. He catches me in his arms without moving backwards. My hands are splayed on his chest. I remove my left one immediately, but the right one stays where it is. Over his heart. We stare at each other. There’s a moment’s silence, which feels like hours. Then understanding comes pouring into me. Oh my God. I look into his eyes, my own now flooded with a mixture of panic and accusation. He stares sadly back — obviously I’ve reacted the way he feared I would. I feel nothing under my hand. There is no heartbeat. “Am I dead?” I whisper. Images flash through my mind…my parents, Felix, my home…can this place really be where I am safest? He looks down, then back into my eyes. The back of his hand brushes softly over my bruised cheek, but I pull it away. This is no time for him to be seducing me. “Am I dead?” I ask again, a little more firmly. He gently takes my hand off of his chest and places it over my own heart. I feel its quickened pace and sigh in relief. “No, Freya, you’re not dead,” he says, seriously. “But I am.”

Can she ever trust a man with a past she might never know?

Elizabeth's Review

3 Stars - Average Read

Review Copy provided by Author

Forsaken is a book that I really wanted to like, but struggled with on several levels. We are thrust into the story of Grace as she inherits a house in Maine and moves there the summer after college graduation to decide what to do with it. Forsaken follows Grace as she renovates the inherited house, makes friends with Chloe, and begins a relationship with Alexander, her architect. This is a well written book, but it felt like there were a lot of inconsistencies and loose ends. One example: Alexander's age. He is supposed to be an award winning architect who is apparently wealthy, but he's only 27. Given other things that he references during the story, I would have expected his character to be older. There are other things that stand out as odd or seem to be left hanging. I don't want to give too much away, so I won't list them here. But, I will say that I kept waiting for the issues to be addressed. This is the first book in a series, so we might be getting more information in coming books.
