ABOUT THE BOOK:

I thought I’d finally met the man of my dreams...

Marlowe I’ve planned this night for weeks, down to the last detail. I want it to be perfect. Bringing someone new into my private life is not something I do lightly, having learned the hard way over the years that celebrity has a dark downside that I go out of my way to avoid whenever possible. But he is different. We’ve been together for months and the time is right to take this next step with him. It doesn’t take long for me to realize I’ve made a huge mistake trusting this man. Before things go from bad to worse, I have the presence of mind to know I’m in big, big trouble. Marlowe Sloane’s story, FAMOUS, is the thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Quantum Series.

Elizabeth's Review

4.5 stars - One of The Best

Review Copy Provided by Author

I have a small confession to make.... as a long time a Marie Force reader I wasn’t sure how I felt when she launched the Quantum series. Now, 8 books later, I am so glad we got to know this group of people. The 4.5 star rating is a much for the series as it is Famous because while this is technically a stand alone, I think a reader would be doing themselves a disservice to not read the series in order.

Well written, Ms Force weaves current day headlines (the #metoo movement) and important social issues (domestic violence) into Marlow’s story. Shining a light on these issues, even in a fictional setting, hopefully brings hope to others struggling.

This is very much Marlow’s story. The focus is on her desire to have the type of relationships her friends/co workers have found, the missteps along the way, and a potential happy ending. We see just how strong Marlow is as she faces a challenge and learns to lean of the people closest to get through it.

My one complaint (that seems really strong) was the shifting away from the key main characters POVs to that of several secondary characters for several chapters in a row. It captured needed information and made sure the gang was all spoken for, but the presentation seemed a pick awkward. This is totally personal preference, so please don’t let this one thing dissuade a reader.

Overall, I loved the book and series.

Review Round Up ~ October 21

COMING SOON

Meant to Be Yours (Happily Inc #5)Meant to Be Yours by Susan Mallery

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would Recommend to a Friend

Review Copy Provided by Author

Meant to be Yours is a fun, light hearted addition to the Happily, Inc series. The focus of the story is two characters we have seen previously in secondary roles, Jasper and Renee.

Both Renee and Jasper believe they aren’t meant for happily ever after/committed relationships so it was entertaining to watch them get to know each other and figure out just where they were meant to go.

There is a lot of emotional growth going on in Meant to be Yours for our characters. I appreciated how Ms Mallery took what could have been very dark and made it much more light hearted with the addition of a quirky parent and a group of good friends (Both of the human and animal varieties).

It was hard to put this book down - thankfully I was able to dive in on a quiet weekend! While it is technically a stand alone book, it is very much part of a series and almost all of the key secondary character had staring roles in previous books. If you are new to Happily, Inc you could easily start here, but the experience would be much more enjoyable if the series is read in order.

NEW RELEASES

3.25 stars - Above Average Read

Review Copy Provided by Author

This was a sweet read and pretty much what I would expect from Ms Andre.

As Long as I Have You moves us across the pond to meet more of the extended Sullivan family and focuses on Owen, the oldest of 5 siblings. Owen is easy to like and falls completely into the Sullivan model of being a “fixer” with a slight shadow over him (very slight in this case.)

He is paired with Mari, an equally likeable heroine who is stronger than she appears at first. Add in Owen’s siblings and the tight knit community around them and this is a solid world building romance.

This was an enjoyable read and definitely a feel good book. My complaint- which I’ve raised about the Sullivan series before - is that it’s very formulaic. There were no big surprises and while the book delivered, it’s not a book I would rush out to buy.

From the TBR Pile:

A.C.H.E.A.C.H.E. by M. Never

3.25 stars - Better than Average Read

Free at the time of purchasse

A C H E is a book I picked up as a free read, mainly because it sounded different than something I've read in a while and it didn't disappoint. There are elements of suspense, heartbreak, healing, and a potential love triangle as we get to know Everly, Alec, and Tage.

I found all three characters interesting, but would say that Everly is my favorite. I appreciated how she was working too rebuild a life as an adult even though there were plenty of reasons for her to curl up in a ball and hide.

This was more than an average read for me, but there were things style wise that just didn't fit with me. Some of it was language and word choice, some was situations that the characters found themselves in and actions they took. The things that detracted from this read for me are strictly personal preference and should not discourage anyone from grabbing it.

A Lie for a Lie, an all-new sexy second chance romance from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting is available now!

Hunting-A Lie for a Lie-28155-CV-FT
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.
Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.
Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.
A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

Excerpt
I stuff my earbuds in and cue up a movie on my entertainment console. After the last flight, I deserve three hours of brain candy. Just as I settle on an action flick, a body lands in my lap. At first, I think I’m being accosted—yet again. It’s not unusual for women to literally throw themselves at me. Typically I’m not on a plane, though, but considering my last flight I shouldn’t be surprised by anything right now. “What the—” “I’m so sorry!” says the voice attached to the body in my lap. She scrambles to right herself but jerks back, gagging, her tidal wave of silky, dark hair slapping me in the face. It smells like mint and cucumber, which would be nice if it weren’t in my mouth. She grabs my shirt with one hand and catches my earbuds, yanking them free. The other hand curls under the fabric wrapped tightly around her throat. She’s sprawled across my lap, legs hanging over the armrest, face level with mine. She’s totally blocking the aisle, making it impossible for anyone to get by and creating quite the spectacle. “My scarf is caught,” she rasps. “Oh my God. I’m choking myself. I’m so sorry. This is so embarrassing.” The more she struggles, the more the scarf tightens, which in turn causes her to flail. I slide a supporting arm behind her. “Stay still for a sec.” She freezes, still gripping my shirt, eyes wide with panic. I turn my head to the side and lean forward. Her lips connect with my cheek. “Oh!” She tries to turn away, but she really is stuck, so her nose ends up in my ear and her lips are still pressed against my jaw. “Just give me a few more seconds, and you’ll be free.” She exhales heavily against my jaw, warm breath making my skin prickle. I lift her carry-on and use my foot to pull the scarf free from the wheel. She loosens the fabric around her throat, dragging in a long, deep breath. “Thank you. So much. Choking to death on an attractive man’s lap really isn’t the way I wanted to go.” She squeezes her eyes shut and pushes to a stand. “I’m so sorry.” She keeps her gaze averted as she gathers up the scarf that never seems to end. It gives me time to check her out. Well, shit. This woman is hot. Like Pour a gallon of gasoline on me and light me on fire hot. She has long dark hair, a shade of brown so deep it’s nearly black. Her eyes are the color of coffee or chocolate—something with caffeine in it. Something that would amp me up. And her face . . . daaaaamn. High cheekbones, full lips, a dainty nose, arched brows, thick lashes. I take in the rest of the package, which gives me pause because her outfit is just . . . out there. She’s wearing a full-on parka, hiding her figure, but based on her legs I’m thinking she’s probably slender. That’s a guess, though, with all the layers she has going on. And that scarf has to be a mile long with how many times she winds it around her neck, hence the near strangulation. Her little wardrobe malfunction has resulted in a line of people waiting to board, so she rushes down the aisle, throwing another “So sorry” over her shoulder as she disappears into coach. I’m almost disappointed. Almost, but not quite. I plug my earbuds back in and veg out to movies for the next three hours.

Don’t let the title fool you.... A Lie for a Lie is a sweet second chance romance.

Rook/RJ and Lainey have one of the best meet cutes I’ve seen in a long time. I loved watching their intense Alaskan experience and was sad to see it end....
Just for them to have a great meet cute .... again!

As fun as the first six weeks Lainey and RJ knew each other was, the meat of the story come when they reconnect. In the real world, we get to see who they are as individuals in their natural environments. We see the growth that has happened and the emotional growth that continues to happen as they decide if a second chance is possible.

Ms Hunting does an excellent job of creating characters who are unique, engaging, and easy to root for. The use of secondary characters to help smooth the way for Lainey and RJ was also handled well. Eden (the best friend) and Stephi (the sister) gave good swift kicks in the rear when needed and the hockey family did a great job of making sure they knew they could function in the real world.

My one complaint come from the use of gestational diabetes as a pregnancy complication that impacts Rook’s family. Having lived that experience 3 times, the descriptions of what happened to his sister in law didn’t ring true. Every experience is different, but for me, this pulled me out of the story when it can up.

Ms Hunting is a newer author for me and with each read, she confirms that I want more!

As the Nashville Assassins’s new assistant coach for special teams, Posey is ready to focus on her job and have the attention on her for a change. She’s been haunted by her place in her sister’s shadow, but this is her chance to shine and force her family to take notice. But in order to make a name for herself, she’s going to have to go toe-to-toe with her team’s leading power play scorer. Boon Hoenes lives for special teams. The power play is his favorite thing about the game. He loves having that advantage over his opponent. And most of the time, it’s his quick thinking that sends the puck to the back of the goal when he’s on the ice. Off the ice, however, no amount of quick thinking prepared his heart for being dumped by his college sweetheart. Boon has sworn off women, but when Posey Adler comes onto his ice—and kicks him off his beloved power play—he decides she’s one woman he doesn’t want to swear off. They’ve both been hurt, but instead of going in for the penalty kill, Boon is ready to convince Posey their hearts are the secret to how they’ll win. How they’ll score the ultimate goal.
