Tough Love is the third installment in the Ultimate series and is another quality work from Lori Foster. We meet Stack and Vanity at the tail end of a wedding and the evening doesn’t go the way either expect, but it gives them both a chance to get to know each other just a little bit better. Both are great characters and it was fun watching Stack’s reaction to Vanity being friends with the other guys in their group. I wish we had gotten to know Vanity a little bit better, it would have helped to understand some of her motivations with how she was with Stack’s family. I have to confess to not having read the two books prior to this in the series, so maybe I am missing information that was covered there. One of the things I appreciate about this book is that Foster gives us the opportunity to be in Stack’s head a good bit of the time. It was refreshing to see a strong, very Alpha male start to fall so quickly. This is the third book in the series, but it is not necessary to have read the previous books in order to enjoy this one (I’m a prime example). There is a strong cast of secondary characters that you will enjoy seeing if you have read the prior books in the series or even some of Foster’s earlier work set in the same community. We also get to see the seeds of the stories for future books in the series, but they are nice little sub plots woven into the fabric of Stack and Vanity’s story and don’t demand too much attention. This is definitely a book to enjoy whether you are a long time Lori Foster fan or new to her work.
