Second Chance Girl by Susan Mallery ~ New Release & review

A touching modern fairy tale that won't let go of your heart, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fool's Gold romances!

Mathias Mitchell's easy smile hides a world of hurt. After the worst kind of family betrayal, he moves to Happily Inc., California—the wedding destination town supplies a steady stream of bridesmaids, perfect for his "no promises, no pain" lifestyle. Yet he can't stop watching for his beautiful, elusive neighbor on the animal preserve behind their homes.

Gamekeeper Carol Lund knows she's not special enough to attract an alpha male like Mathias, so his offer to help her adopt a herd for her lonely giraffe is surprising—and his determined seduction, even more so. But just as she finally welcomes him into her bed, his careless actions crush her heart. Will she give him a second chance to prove she'll always come first in his heart?

This is a sweet story focusing on sisters, Carol and Violet, and a family reunion for the Mitchell family of Fools Gold fame. I feel like there needs to be a bit of a warning for this book, if you have not read the tail end of the Fool's Gold series or at least the first Happily, Inc book, do NOT start here.
I enjoyed Second Chance Girl, but having the back story for the Mitchell family and having met both Carol and Violet previously played a big part in that.
Mathias Mitchell and his relationships with his brothers and family are really the stars of Second Chance Girl. He's a hero that is fairly easy to like and invest in. His relationship with Carol is a sweet friends to lovers adventure that allows his best qualities to come through.
Unfortunately, Carol is not the strongest of heroine and there were times when it was hard to stay focused on her parts of the story. The addition of Violet's side story justified the length of the book, but other than her relationship to Carol, the addition doesn't seem to jive with the rest of the story.
Second Chance Girl is a good book and a decent addition to the Happily, Inc series and is a nice follow up to the Fool's Gold series. If you have read the previous series/books, then you will enjoy this too.
