Coalescence by J.C. Hannigan ~ New Release and Review

Title: Coalescence
Series: A Welder Romance
Author: J.C. Hannigan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 26, 2018 Cover Design: Shari Ryan from Madhat
After the betrayal of her ex-boyfriend, Gwen has sworn off men. Her sister's upcoming wedding and her new single lifestyle serve as constant reminders that she's not where she hoped she'd be in life.
At the urging of her sister, she steps out of her comfort zone with a girl's night out. Counting on disappointment, the one thing she never saw coming was the handsome stranger with capable hands, who lit a fire in her after a steamy ‪one-night‬ stand.
Love-wary single dad, Alaric, is starting over.
In an effort to be closer to his daughter, Alaric has sold everything, including the business he inherited from his father.
After all the upheaval he’s experienced lately, the last thing he's looking for is another complication, but that’s exactly what he gets when he discovers the daughter of his new boss is none other than his latest one night stand.
Their co-working relationship is only one of the obstacles keeping them apart, but when their insane attraction causes sparks to fly, will Gwen and Alaric deny their chemistry, or will they coalesce into something even greater than their individual parts?

Just when you think you know an author, they go and mix it up on you! I think Coalescence is the most overtly sexy book that Ms. Hannigan has written and for Gwen and Alaric it really works.

I am a self confessed fan of Ms Hannigan and when it came to reviewing this book, she's a little bit of a victim of her own success. I really liked this book, but didn't get quiet the same level of emotional impact that I am used to from a Hannigan book. Yes, I like it when she twists me up before making it work and I missed that here a little bit.

Gwen and Alaric are both interesting characters that are easy to like and relate to. I like them separately and found myself liking them together. In Coalescence, we are taken right to the edge of too much sexy time, but there is enough true relationship building that we don't cross that line.
There are hints of angst and conflict, but most of that is internal to the individual characters and they seem to be able to reign it in before things blow up. I do wish some of the external conflicts hinted at had been explored a little bit more, but am okay letting my imagination work too.

Overall, this a good read showing how even the most awkward of beginnings can work when it's the right person.

J.C. Hannigan lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband, their two sons, and their dog. She writes contemporary new adult romance and suspense. Her novels focus on relationships, mental health, social issues, and other life challenges.
