Tragic ~ Devney Perry ~ New Release and Review

Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he’s cut off all ties to his former life so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how.W Alone. So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face. But Kaine’s gruff demeanor doesn’t scare her. She’s set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn’t mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband’s betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate. Yet what neither of them suspect is that their no-strings affair will result in the surprise of Piper’s lifetime—and Kaine’s worst fear.

Every book I read of Ms Perry’s further cements her on my must read list and Tragic is no exception.
We return to Lark Cove with Piper (a secondary character from the first book) when she comes to rebuild her life post divorce. She has battle scars and several issues to deal with on the emotional front. Once she is in town permanently, she meets Kaine - a man with his own freight train of emotional issues.

I loved watching these two. From instant lust, to friends, to much much more, they had a dynamic that made you root for them to be happy.

Ms Perry does an excellent job of peeling back the layers of emotional trauma that both Piper and Kaine have dealt with as their relationship evolves. The interactions and issues that they face feel organic to the situation and while those situations bring drama, it doesn’t go overboard.
The secondary cast is small, most of whom have been met before in previous books of the Lark Cove series. As the books are sequential, this is also a chance to see what Logan/Thea and Jackson/Willa are up to now.

I enjoyed spending time with Piper and Kaine and hope to see glimpses of them again in future Lark Cove books.
