Code Name: Ghost by Sawyer Bennett ~ New Release and Review

Code Name: Ghost (Jameson Force Security, Book #5) Sawyer Bennett Release Date: June 30, 2020

Synopsis:
I knew the risks of this job when I signed on with Jameson Force Security. Knew my time as a marine would prepare me for the danger I would face. But no amount of training could have ever prepared me for the helplessness of watching my teammates die, the agonizing mental and physical pain of torture, or the despair of captivity. Returning home to Pittsburgh following a mission gone wrong, I am riddled with guilt and haunted by nightmares. I spend my days trying to regain the parts of myself I lost in that desert, the pieces that made me the Malik Fournier I once was. While the physical effects of my torture are fading, the emotional ones are proving much more stubborn and I find solace from the last person I should ever seek such comfort. Anna Tate lost even more than I did in that mission. Now a widow and a single mom to the daughter she gave birth to shortly after her husband’s death, Anna offers me comfort I don’t deserve. As my feelings for Anna grow, I worry that once she learns the truth about what happened, she’ll turn her back on me. I pull her to me just as tightly as I push her away. Hoping this forbidden love will save me from the ghost I’ve become.

If you have been following the Jameson Force series, then you will very excited to see what happens in Code Name Ghost. Not only do we get to see what happens to Malik (a secondary character we’ve met several times going all the way back to the Cold Fury days), but we also get to see if Anna (whom we’ve also met before) can have a second chance at love.

This is a well written story featuring likeable characters who have been through a lot to get where they are. Ms Bennett handled the emotional minefield both Anna and Malik faced with grace and dignity. I appreciated the fact that mental health after trauma wasn’t brushed under the rug and even the big tough special forces guy saw first hand the value of good help.

Supporting friends and family helped make Code Name: Ghost a feel good story. There is some natural push/pull regarding feelings, but those moments between Malik and Anna felt authentic and not overly done. The true conflict of the story also felt natural and was one where I could have seen myself reacting in the same way given the circumstances.

While technically a stand alone, Code Name: Ghost is a story that will enjoyed more if some of the preceding books in the series are read first. The action here is not dependent on the previous books, but there is character insight to be gained. This is a strong addition to the series and I am looking forward to what comes next for us!
