At First Sight (A Modern Fairytale #7)At First Sight by Katy Regnery

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - Would recommend to a friend

This a quick, entertaining read from the queen of the rewritten fairytale! At First Sight is a great retelling of Alladdin featuring an Irish bad boy and an Italian Princess.

Ian Ladd/ Prince and Valentina are both characters that were interesting from the beginning when we met them at 15 and 16. I would have liked to have a bit of a deeper dive into who they were when we remet them again 15 years later.

Given the state of the world right now, this was a the kind of feel good read that was needed. The idea that two people can come together, be separated by life, and brought back together when the time is right is so very appealing.

The Summer Deal (Wildstone, #5)The Summer Deal by Jill Shalvis

3.5 stars - Worth a Reader's Time

In The Summer Deal, Ms Shalvis returns us to Wildstone with a new group of characters. Kinsey, Brynn, and Eli all attended summer camp together once upon a time. Now with Eli’s brother Max, they are all roommates.

When we meet this group, both Brynn and Kinsey are at crossroads for different reasons. Ms Shalvis does an excellent job of pulling us into their lives and letting us see how they are feeling as they navigate where they are and where they need to go.

The Summer Deal is a relationship story. We see parent/child, brothers, friends, romantic connections, and budding friendships. The histories behind these relationships and the things that shape the characters are explored. The emotional growth by both Brynn and Kinsey is affirming and gives a sense of hope.

This was a sweet read and I would love to see more of these characters and hope there is a story for Max in the future.
