Do you ever wonder what Romeo and Juliet would have looked like if they'd tried to get their families to work things out? In Reckless Kiss, Tia Louise gives us a brief glimpse of what that could have looked liked....
Our leading man, Deacon, is a character that has appeared in secondary rolls in previous works by the author. It was a bit of a fun surprise for me when the light bulb of "I know this guy" went off about halfway through. Our leading lady, Angel, is a complex and interesting character that I enjoyed getting to know as well.
Deacon and Angel met accidentally when she was 15 and have spent roughly 10 years (I'm estimating) courting each other long distance and over summer breaks. Seeing them finally come together as adults to create a lasting relationship was sweet. Watching them discover a 70+ year old feud between their families, not so sweet. Ms Louise did an excellent job of blending Deacon and Angel fighting to be together with them also solving the mystery of why their families hate each other.
This is a story that pulled me in and didn't let go until the very end. I found myself on the edge of my seat while rooting for them to figure things out. I genuinely liked both Deacon and Angel and also enjoyed evolution of the secondary cast.
