The Tease is a book that could have been heavy on angst and sexy times - the various taboos here would have made that an easy place for the author to go. Instead, we get a book that shows you what the characters are feeling. We get to go with them as they discover what they truly desire and grow emotionally, apart and together, so that a true partnership can happen.
When we first meet Jules and Finn, they are both slightly dented by life. Their initial connection was explosive and their resistance (once they connected certain dots) was admirable. It was very entertaining to sit back and watch fate laugh at their efforts to stay apart.
The timeline here is fairly short (a couple of months at most), but the emotional work that goes in is heartwarming. The healing, growth, and trust themes make this much more than “just” a romance read.
The Tease is an interconnected standalone and does very well by itself. Having read The Tryst before added to the enjoyment here because I had more background into who Finn (and some of the secondary characters) were, but I don’t think it would have been necessary to fully embrace this story. I want to go back and find The RSVP now!

Welcome back to The Beard in this connected stand-alone read. This time we are getting to know Shea (sister of the previous main character Grady) better as she explores life outside the Sleepy Moose kitchen. She is paired with retired hockey player, Holt, as he and his kids start fresh.
Shea and Holt are both fun characters to get to know and people I found myself rooting for to find what they are looking for. Readers get to see both work through things they are struggling with and break out of ruts to try new/scary things.
Ms Rothert has created a sweet, feel-good town I wish I could visit in real life. The secondary cast here adds to the depth of the story. We spend a lot of time with Holt's kids (they are almost scene stealers) as well as Shea's brother. The rest of the town helps move things along too and I am curious to see if any of the other frequent players will have a story to tell soon.
