Sparking The Fire ~ Kate Meader ~ Blog Tour and Review

SPARKING THE FIRE
BOOK 3
 A HOT IN CHICAGO NOVEL
KATE MEADER
Pocket Books
September 27, 2016
ISBN 9781476785936
$7.99

Praise for Sparking the Fire, Book 3:

“The tale of hot firefighters and the women—and one man—who love them has come to an end. Meader ends this series with role playing, fierce family loyalty and multiple orgasms. The male protagonist goes through a transformation that showcases his vulnerability, insecurities, possessiveness and protectiveness. The many instances of a family sticking together through it all are more than enough to tug on the heart strings, but the steamy sex and sentimental pillow talk make this book a must-read.” —RT Book Reviews Four Star Review, Scorcher

“Can a firefighter and a movie star really make it work? Meader (Rekindle the Flame, 2015) immerses you in Wyatt’s tight-knit family of foster siblings that she’s built throughout the Hot in Chicago series, and readers will feel like part of the family in no time. Her descriptions of Chicago will leave fans wanting to travel to the Windy City and fall in love with their own firefighters.” —Booklist

About Sparking the Fire, Book 3:

Heating up reading lists this Fall will be Kate Meader’s highly anticipated Sparking the Fire, the “sexy and sassy” (#1 New York Times bestselling author Jude Deveraux) steamy third novel in the Hot in Chicago series, where former lovers unexpectedly reunite for a sizzling affair that will have the director yelling, “Quiet on the set!”

AN OLD FLAME STILL SIMMERS… Wyatt Fox, resident daredevil at Engine Company 6, needs a low key job to keep him busy while he recovers from his latest rescue stunt. Consulting on a local movie shoot should add just enough spark to his day. But then in struts Molly Cade: the woman who worked his heart over good, and then left him in the Windy City dust.

BUT WILL A NEW SHOT AT LOVE LEAVE HER BURNED? Actor Molly Cade, America’s fallen sweetheart, finally has her shot at a Hollywood comeback with a dramatic new role as a tough-as-nails firefighter that promises to propel her back into the big time. And she’s not going to let anything stand in her way—even a certain brooding, blue-eyed firefighter she’s never quite been able to forget…Their story is straight out of a script: irrepressible, spunky heroine meets taciturn, smoldering hero. But these two refuse to be typecast, and when the embers of an old love are stoked, someone is bound to get burned…

About the Author:

Kate Meader was raised on romance. An Irish girl, she started with Catherine Cookson and Jilly Cooper novels, and spiced it up with some Mills & Boon. Now based in Chicago, she writes romances of her own, where sexy contemporary alpha heroes and strong heroines match each other quip for quip. When not immersed in tales of brooding mill owners, oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron or a fire hose, Kate lives on the web at katemeader.com.

In Sparking the Fire, Ms. Meader takes us back to Chicago and the Dempsey family of fire fighters. This time we follow the story of Wyatt, the strong silent member of the family. Wyatt has been a character that has lurked in the background during the other Hot in Chicago books, you knew he was there, but didn't know much about him. It was really nice to get to know him better in this book.

Molly is a blast from Wyatt's past suddenly in his present. Fabulous sparks flew between these two. Add in the rest of the Dempsey clan and a surprise niece and you have a fun story.

Sparking the Fire got off to a slow start for me, but I ended up enjoying it. Ms. Meader did an excellent job of peeling the layers back and giving us a glimpse at the gooey center of super Alpha Wyatt. Molly is a female character that I couldn't help but like. She is wounded, but strong and reclaiming her identity. Well written with humor and multi-layered relationships, this was an excellent end to the Hot in Chicago series.

Olivia hates Flynn, but it's that special kind of hate reserved for someone you used to care about. He is the last person she wants in her space as she recovers from the wedding that wasn't.....

Ms. Meader takes these two former friends and shows us what happens when they stop avoiding each other. This is a quick, fun read that is surprisingly emotional. Olivia and Flynn have been in each other's lives for fifteen years, so a lot of baggage gets aired out during their week together. There were a couple of times when I wanted to shake them both, but overall I really enjoyed this story! It's a great conclusion to the Tall, Dark, and Texan series.

A Chat With Kate

Who are your favorite authors to read?

I love romantic comedies from authors like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Julie James, Lauren Layne, and Jill Shalvis. But I also like it a little bit more angsty as well. Victoria Dahl is one of my favorites – amazing sex-positive heroines with funny, potty mouths.

What is your favorite part of being an author?

Being able to come up with the snappy comeback that I wish I could say in real life. My characters are always such witty smart asses!

What is the scariest thing about writing?

That something you put your heart and soul into won’t find an audience or people might not love it or your characters as much as you do. I’ve figured out that I can’t please everyone, so those tough reviews don’t make quite as much impact as they once did.

Do your ideas come from "real life" situations or pure imagination?

Mostly my imagination. I wish I knew a sexy chef or a hard-bodied firefighter or a Texan tycoon. Of course, I do steal a few things from real life. My current hero, Brody from TAKING THE SCORE is a cat-loving, Dr. Who-adoring, Star Wars-quoting geek—just like a certain man in my life.

Of the places you have traveled, what is your favorite?

Italy, without a doubt. It’s been ten years since I’ve been but the last time was really special. I got married in the hills above Florence! Read all about it.

What advice would you give an aspiring author?

It seems obvious but write every day, even it’s a few words. The writing brain is a muscle and it needs exercise.

Do you have writing rituals?

Not really. I pretty much need quiet, but other than that, I don’t have any rituals.

You've written several series, do you have a favorite?

I usually love whichever series I’m writing right now. I most recently finished the last book in the Hot in Chicago series—Wyatt’s book, so that’s my current favorite. It centers on a kick-ass group of firefighting foster siblings, the family you make rather than the one you’re born into.

When you settle down to read Taking the Score, be prepared to enjoy meeting Brody and Emma. Both were very likable characters. Brody appears to be straight laced and uptight at first, but the more we get to know him the more we discover he has several interesting personality quirks. Emma is funny and strong; I enjoyed watching her stand up for herself.

The circumstances that lead from Emma being Brody's assistant to them establishing a relationship is almost cringe worthy, but it's potential for awkwardness is what made it work for these two. Ms. Meader does a fantastic job of letting us get into the characters heads a little bit and giving us a chance to understand why Brody went around Emma to fix her problem and why Emma reacted as harshly as see did.

Brody's romantic gesture to win Emma back is definitely cute and shows the sweet moments that Brody slips into throughout the story. Taking the Score is the second book in a series, but it works very well on it's own. There is some character cross over between this book and the first, but not so much that you have to read the first book to enjoy this one.

But when a chance reunion at his family’s bar, sparked by a drunk Santa, places her in his path again, destiny can no longer be denied.

I fell in love with the Dempseys of Chicago when I met them in Luke's book. The love affair continued in reading both Gage and Alex's stories, so I was thrilled to get to go back and read about the brother who started it all, Beck.

Rekindle the Flame is not a long book, but it packs a punch as Beck and his first love reconnect. I loved watching him woo Darcy and try to get her to stay and continue the love affair they rediscovered. At the same time, I completely understood Darcy's fear and anger about how Beck handled things the first time around. These two are a lot of fun and I swooned when Beck swept in and swept Darcy off her feet (with a little help from Gram).
If you haven't met the Dempsey family of firefighters yet, you need to.

Playing with Fire ~ Kate Meader ~ NEW RELEASE

From popular romance author Kate Meader comes the second novel in Hot in Chicago, a brand-new, sizzling series that follows a group of firefighting foster siblings and their blazing hot love interests! As the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, Alexandra Dempsey gets it from all sides: the male coworkers who think she can’t do the job, the wives and girlfriends who see her as a threat to their firefighter men, and her overprotective foster brothers who want to shelter their baby sister at all costs. So when she single-handedly saves the life of Eli Cooper, Chicago’s devastatingly handsome mayor, she assumes the respect she’s longed for will finally come her way. But it seems Mr. Mayor has other ideas… Eli Cooper’s mayoral ratings are plummeting, his chances at reelection dead in the water. When a sexy, curvaceous firefighter gives him the kiss of life, she does more than bring him back to the land of the living—she also breathes vitality into his campaign. Riding the wave of their feel-good story might prop up Eli’s flagging political fortunes, but the sizzling attraction between them can go nowhere; he’s her boss, and there are rules that must be obeyed. But you know what they say about rules: they’re made to be broken…

Elizabeth's Review

Things continue to be Hot in Chicago for the Dempsey family of the Chicago Fire Department! After seeing how Alex Dempsey and Mayor Eli Cooper dealt with each other in Flirting With Fire (Book 1 of the series), I really wondered how Author Meader was going to get them together in this story.
The answer is an awesome combination of chemistry and sneaky. I initially didn’t like the lie Eli told Alex to get her to spend time with him, but after seeing them together for a while, I could forgive it. These two were adversarial with and attracted to each other from the day they met. Ms. Meader does a fantastic job of playing off both aspects to keep their interactions authentic to who their characters are.
We are also given great glimpses of who Eli and Alex are as individuals and some of the struggles they are dealing with, especially Alex as a female fire fighter. One of the things I enjoyed about this romance was the fact that we saw the couple together in normal “this is life” situations, so it was easy to root for them with the going got tough.
Playing with Fire is a continuation of the Hot in Chicago series, so we see characters from previous (and future) stories appear as supporting cast here. Having read earlier parts of the series would be helpful for background, but not necessary. Playing with Fire is a complete stand-alone work and Ms. Meader does a great job of providing enough background so that the roles of the secondary characters make sense without them overwhelming the story being told.
If you have any interest in a story with a strong female lead and a very alpha hero then this is definitely a book you want to pick up.

Melting Point ~ Kate Meader ~ NEW RELEASE

And easy isn’t in his vocabulary. When cocky Gage swaggers into his restaurant kitchen, the former Marine-turned-five-star-chef is blindsided by the firefighter’s beauty. Then confused that this golden guy with the sparkling blue eyes and the body of a god might be interested in him. In Melting Point we go back to Station 6 and catch up with Gage from the fire fighting Dempsey family. In this steamy novella, we find Gage stepping in to help Brady (the very hot chef we met in Flirting with Fire) after an accident. Brady's pain killer buzz is just enough that he is finally honest with how he feels and the developing relationship is great to watch. The sexy time between Gage and Brady is incredibly hot, but what I really enjoyed was these two wounded souls opening up to each other to create a loving relationship. Gage is a character that stood out in Flirting with Fire and it was great to get to know him better here. It didn't take long at all for him to get passed Brady's physical issues, but the emotional barriers were harder to brake down and I briefly wondered if they were going to be able to make it. Ms. Meader does a great job of balancing the relationship and hot sexy time in a novella that is just right length wise to tell the story. While Gage and Brady are both introduced in Flirting With Fire, Melting Point is a complete stand-alone and can be read on it's own.

If you are looking for a quick, fun read you need to check out Even the Score.
Tess and Hunter had a rough introduction, she was the maid of honor in a wedding that never was and she was the one to give him the bad news. A year later they cross paths again. She is a struggling actress looking to start a theater company and he is a wealthy land developer who needs someone to act like his fiancée to close a deal.
The instant connection between these two just about jumps off the page and the sexual chemistry sizzles. They also have an emotional connection that adds to the story. Meader does a great job of having both main characters grow emotionally as individuals so that their relationship can move forward.
My only complaint is that due to the length of the book, some of the plot points seem a little rushed and there were a couple of places where I wondered what happened. None of this was enough to detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. Tess and Hunter are definitely a hot couple, it would have been nice to have just a little bit more of them.

Flirting With Fire by Kate Meader

I am going into my review stash to get us started. I stumbled onto Kate Meader through a contest somewhere and was intrigued by the Hot in Chicago series she had just launched. I bought Flirting With Fire and was hooked. Here is a little bit about the book and what I thought. Happy Reading!

The first installment in Hot in Chicago, a brand-new, sizzling series from Kate Meader that follows a group of firefighting foster siblings and their blazing hot love interests! Savvy PR guru Kinsey Taylor has always defined herself by her career, not her gender. That is, until she moved from San Francisco to Chicago to be with her fiancé who thought she wasn’t taking her “job” of supporting him in his high-powered career seriously enough—and promptly dumped her for a more supportive and “feminine” nurse. Now, as the new assistant press secretary to Chicago’s dynamic mayor, she’s determined to keep her eye on the prize: no time to feel inferior because she’s a strong, kick-ass woman, and certainly no time for men. But that all changes when she meets Luke Almeida, a firefighter as searingly sexy as he is quick-tempered. He’s also the second oldest of the Firefightin’ Dempseys, a family of foster siblings who have committed their lives to the service—if Luke’s antics don’t get him fired first. When Luke goes one step too far and gets into a bar brawl with the Chicago Police Department, Kinsey marches into Luke’s firehouse and lays down the law on orders from the mayor. But at Engine Co. 6, Luke Almeida is the law. And he’s not about to let Kinsey make the rules.
Elizabeth's Thoughts:

5 Stars

I have a new addition to my “must buy” author list! Flirting with Fire is the first book in Kate Meader’s Hot in Chicago series and it is just that… a very hot novel.
We meet the Dempsey family of fire fighters, all foster siblings who work at the same fire house. They are incredibly close and have each other’s backs at work and at home. Luke, is one of the older Dempsey “kids” and currently in trouble with the mayor after a run-in with a former friend and detective. Kinsey is part of the city’s PR team and was assigned to “fix” Luke’s mess. She has her own issues, but when they meet the spark is instant. I really liked both Luke and Kinsey and I liked them together. They seemed to balance each other very well. The other members of the Dempsey family were huge players in the story and it will be entertaining to see where their stories go. There is just the right amount of drama involved in the story, both between Luke and Kinsey and with outside forces. You can understand where the characters are coming from and are anxious to see them work it out, but things don’t cross the line to frustrating. My only complaint, and it’s more of a concern, is the amount of time spent setting up the story lines for other characters. Gage and Alex are the siblings that will be featured in upcoming works by Meader and time is spent establishing the relationships we will see them explore in future work. The secondary story lines do not detract from the Flirting with Fire story, but it makes me curious to see if subsequent books will work well as stand-alone novels.
