Meet the Author - Caleigh Hernandez

Let's give a warm welcome to today's Meet the Author guest, Caleigh Hernandez.
Published work:
Love Takes Your Breath Away (Book 1)
Love Turns With Twisted Fates (Book 2)
Love Needs Another Chance (Book 3; Release Date TBA)
What are you working on now?
Right now, I'm working on book 3, Love Needs Another Chance. I'm cranking out the words like my life depends on it and I love it. This time the words are coming easier (most of the time) and I'm even finding myself wordier than the other two books. In all fairness, I do believe this is because book 3 is from Diego's POV and he's got a lot of shit going on.
Do you get to write full time or do you also have a “day” job?
LOL. You could say that it's my full time job only second to my job as a mother. I do design work as well. I design all my graphics, teasers and book covers. It was actually while getting my Bachelor of Science degree in Multimedia and Web Design that I rediscovered my dream to write and came up with the idea behind the Truth About Love series.
Favorite part of being an author?
My favorite part of being an author is getting the out-of-the-blue message from a reader that tells me how much she loved it, how she can't wait for the next book, and then mentions specifically what she got out of it and it hits the nail on the head with what I was trying to accomplish.
Scariest part of being an author?
The scariest part of being an author is wondering if people will like my characters, their story or the way I tell it. Holy crap…that's terrifying. I know that it won't be for everyone, but I have this recurring waking nightmare that one day no one will like what I wrote.
Who are your favorites to read?
My favorites are of the eclectic variety: K. Bromberg, Anne Rice, Kallypso Masters, R.K. Lilley, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde…OMG, I could keep going.
If you had $1 million to giveaway, what would you do with the money?
I'd set aside enough money for my daughters to go to college, move to Hawaii where I will put most of our money into setting up my husband's woodworking business. I would also donate to our family's favorite charity Alex's Lemonade Stand.
One piece of advice to an aspiring writer?
Write. Just write. Then, get yourself a trustworthy duo or trio of beta readers to read your story. Expect them to tell you the story isn't working, it's going wild, or running away from you. But keep writing. You will get there. Don't force yourself to write something you don't want to write. Oh and research. Research, research, research. You don't want to come across that one reader that's intimately familiar your characters career or health affliction or something. Then, when you're done with writing and the trusting and the writing some more and the researching, write until you hit the end. Then, find a few more trustworthy persons to read your story as a whole. But really…JUST. WRITE.

Falling For Him - Release Day

11655279_10204717468993462_469401012_n   synopsis
What happens when the life you've taken for granted gets suddenly turned upside down? Erica Kennedy was excited about starting her freshman year of college at State University with her best friend Monica. Out of the blue, her parents surprised everyone with a divorce that quickly turned nasty and she was forced to change all of her plans for the fall. Now, no longer attending State, Erica enrolls in Bishop University, a local four-year school geared more for older, working adults and those serving in the military at the nearby Air Force Base. Being one of the younger students, Erica feels out of place. With two of her classes actually being on the military base, she's even more uncertain because the classes there are filled with good-looking military men along with another interesting group who wear gray jumpsuits bearing the name The Falcon Club. One guy in particular, Jaime, catches her attention and she can't resist the urge to find out more about him. Not sure if it's luck or just coincidence, Erica is placed in a study group with Jaime and the mystery behind his gray jumpsuit becomes even more intriguing as does her attraction to him. What she thought was just an elite military group turns out to be so much more. In discovering the truth, can she stop herself from falling even more for him or will she take her chances and risk everything for a relationship with him? The Falcon Club: Falling for Him, told from Erica's point of view, is the first book in the two-part series. It will conclude with The Falcon Club: Falling for Her, Jaime's story, which is told from his point of view. The Falcon Club is like no other club you have read about before! excerpt

“We need to be going,” I whispered. “Will you promise to meet me here again?” Jaime’s words were powerful and full of lust. I nodded, knowing I also wanted this moment to pick up where we’d left off. Who cared about doing schoolwork when this was so much better? “I promise.” “Next time, wear something sexy for me. I want to be able to see more of this gorgeous body of yours.” He leaned back and examined me closely, letting his fingers drift down my arm. “Your legs are sexy as hell, baby.” I felt my face redden, since no one had ever really told me my body was attractive. I knew I had a decent figure, but to actually hear someone compliment me did wonders for my ego.

Just In Time - Rosalind James - New Release

What happens in Vegas… Will Tawera doesn’t do commitment, except on the rugby field. Moving to Las Vegas to become a kicker for the NFL would be a big change from New Zealand rugby, but then, he’s ready for a change. And when he’s asked to do a little modeling on the side? Thousands of dollars to hold a beautiful blonde while looking dark, dangerous, tattooed, and Maori? He could do that. Faith Goodwin doesn’t do dark, dangerous men. Especially not when they make her laugh, take her miniature golfing with four-year-olds, and are far too sexy and sweet for comfort. But when Will finds himself in hot water back in New Zealand, who’s he going to call? And who would be able to resist answering? Note: This book was previously published in Brenda Novak's SWEET TALK boxed set. This version contains an added chapter and added steam. If you prefer your books without steam...this may not be the book for you!

Elizabeth's Review

4.5 Stars
Copy provided by Author in exchange for review

Just In Time was originally released as part of a box set with other authors earlier this year. The new version is a little spicier with more sexy time between the two main characters. I gave the original version a 5 star review, but couldn’t get there with the new version.
Here is my original review:
I have to confess that I am a huge Rosalind James fan and have been ever since I discovered the Escape to New Zealand series a couple of years ago. The wonderful storytelling that I have enjoyed in her other books is in full force in this, the 8th installment of the series.
Just In Time features Will, our rugby playing All Black hero, and Faith, a super hard working photographers assistant/author. The rugby world actually takes a pretty big back seat in this book and Will and Faith have a different journey than James has taken us on before. This is definitely a friends to lover’s story and an emotional one too. From an emotional stand point, I think this might be the strongest entry in the Escape to New Zealand series.
All of the Escape books are interconnected, but most of the work as stand-alone novels and this is definitely true of Just In Time. Reading the previous books is helpful, but not at all necessary.
The changes from the original version are really pretty small and mainly seem to be expanded sexy time. It was definitely fun to read, but it didn’t add anything for me. Part of me liked the fact that Will and Faith’s relationship was on the “sweeter” side and some of the additions actually seemed to dim some of the emotional connection I felt with the original version.
Now that I’ve said that, let me also say that I still love Will and Faith and think their story is a wonderful addition to the Escape to New Zealand series.

When We Collide - A.L. Jackson

From the bestselling author of Pulled and Take This Regret comes a gripping new tale of loss and love. William has spent six years running from his past and the last eight months trying to rid his mind of the dreams that increasingly haunt his nights. Trapped in a world of false ambitions and feigned affections, William knows he’s reached a breaking point and something’s going to give. Maggie had lived her entire life without hope until one man showed her what it meant to be loved. He’d been her light in a lifetime of darkness. Six years ago, that darkness stole him away. Without him, she’s surrendered herself to an existence she doesn’t know how to escape. When the family William left behind is struck by tragedy, he is called back to the one place he’s sworn to never return to again. In a moment that will change his life forever, William comes face to face with the girl who, with one look, captured his heart. He is unable to ignore the buried desires and the hope for the future they’d once believed they’d have. Now William is ready to fight to take back what had been stolen from him six years before. But he never imagined what that fight might cost him. A.L. Jackson gives you an intimate look into the lives of a family bound by an unseen connection in this new contemporary romance.

I started seriously reviewing books about 6 months ago. As I have gotten more involved, I have “met” new authors through the wonderful world of social media. One of the things I love about the author/reader community, is that some of an author’s biggest “fans” are other authors. That is how I came across A.L. Jackson. I knew absolutely nothing about her or her work, except that an author whose work I enjoyed recommended her.
When the opportunity to review When We Collide came up, I grabbed it partially to see what everyone was talking about. All I can say is WOW! I don’t even know if I really have the words to describe this book adequately, so please bear with me.
For starters, A.L Jackson does a fantastic job of weaving the past and present together so that you have the full picture of what is going on while maintaining an element of mystery. The book is honestly hard to put down because you really want to know “why?”
Maggie just breaks your heart; there is no other way to describe her. I can’t even begin to fathom the situation she found herself in at only 18 years old. Part of me was thrilled at what she found with William, but part of me was so sad for her too.
William is the perfect tortured hero. As the full story emerged, it is hard to imagine how these two could come back together and heal. No one expects a teenage relationship to have the depth to survive the things these two go through.

Even though the time that William and Maggie are together in the book is relatively small, it is impossible to not feel their love and connection to each other. Ms. Jackson takes us on a wild roller-coaster of a ride that makes me look forward to reading more of her work. My only regret is that it has taken me nearly 3 years to find this book!

Excerpts

The past two weeks had changed her world, mostly for the better, but not entirely. She would miss Colt Rafferty when he was gone. However, thinking it through while she mopped her kitchen floor, she decided she was still glad he was leaving. The man was like a dog with a bone, always pushing, always prodding, always wanting to discover a fact, solve a mystery, and piece together a puzzle. He did it in a nice way. Most of the time you didn't even notice he was doing it. Still, she'd had enough of it. Sage would only be pushed and prodded so far. With today's revelation, she'd pretty much reached her limit. Were he not already on his way out of town, she suspected she might have been forced to give him his walking papers. Because Colt Rafferty might push, but Sage Anderson planted. When she absolutely, positively, established a boundary or claimed a position, she sank her roots as deep as Murphy Mountain was tall. She'd learned that she had to do it that way. It was how she managed to survive.
-----------
He looked at the blank screen on the television, then back at her. "I don't like my dates to be bored."
"Oh?"
There came that damned smile again, and Colt was suddenly reminded of the look in her eyes when she'd thrown that last snowball at him. He'd had it all wrong. Forget the name Cinnamon -- he should call her Vixen. She'd been leading him down the pine forest path all along, and he'd been too dense to recognize it.
Well, the blinders were off now.
"No. Boredom won't do." He reached out with his index finger to trace the V of her neckline, where her skin was as soft as the cashmere that caressed it. "Gonna let me entertain you?"
"What do you have in mind?"
"I thought we'd start with that dip in the hot tub."
"I didn't bring my swimsuit."
"That's handy." He skimmed his hand down her torso, grabbed the hem of her sweater, and whipped it up over her head. "You're not gonna need it."

July New Releases

We all have certain authors we love and we ALWAYS know when they have a new book coming out, am I right? Well, there is a wonderful community of independent authors out there, and sometimes we miss it when they have a new release because they have to do so much of the work themselves. Here are a couple of July releases that I've heard about. If you know an indie author who would like to have future releases shared here, please have them get in touch!

After a perfect summer, Sophie returns to college for her senior year. Leaving behind her greatest source of strength, she has to work even harder to keep her demons quiet. But when her past collides with her happiness for the final time, she’s faced with a new normal. Is she strong enough to stay on top? Does she believe she’s worthy of forever, or will she give it all up for a chance at peace? One more try. One more chance. Now a college graduate, Kipton stumbles upon the opportunity of a lifetime. Facing an unexpected long distance relationship, he’s struggling to find the perfect balance between life and love. All he wants is to protect his girl, but he doesn’t know how. Especially when she starts keeping secrets. Fate has already determined their path. Time controls it. Are Sophie and Kipton strong enough to overcome the odds? Will they conquer the past once and for all? Only one person knows the answer to free her – to make her weightless. Weightless is the full-length follow-up to Lighter, and the conclusion to Sophie and Kipton’s story.
My life changed forever the night my husband died. I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t want to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him. But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope. My life changed forever the night my brother died. I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that. When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I'm willing to sacrifice it all.
Love is somewhere near the bottom of Lily Thomas’ list of life goals, right next to competitive eating and underwater cave diving. She’s spent six years pirouetting and pliéing her way up the ranks of the New York Ballet with her eye on the prize and love in the back seat. But now that Blane Baker -- Lily’s long time crush -- is finally single, she’ll throw her rules out the window without thinking twice. Reality with Blane isn’t as epic as the fantasy she imagined, and the truth sends her spinning straight into the arms of the man she never knew she’d always wanted. West Williams has been friends with Lily since the day she moved into their building and he saved her armoire from a swift, sudden death by staircase. Their friendship has always been easy, the boundaries clearly defined. With neither of them willing to risk their relationship, they’ve drifted happily through the years as companions, never considering more. That is, until they do. And that realization changes everything.
All she wants is to keep her title. To stay at the top of her game. The world is harsh and Tory has already learned many of the harder lessons. Her life’s story has always been about control and the cowboy code, but will this year teach her the toughest lesson? Her own stubborn will may help her escape death, but will she come through unscathed? Can she remain true to who she is? In order to survive the pain, the cowardly men, the lies, and the passion that will threaten to tear her apart, Tory will have to hold tightly to what has always been important – friendship, loyalty, and always Rusty.
