Lust in Translation: A Harbour Point SEAL Novel by Rachel Robinson ~ New Release and Review

Beginning a new career as a linguist at Harbour Point SEAL base is a fresh start. It’s a way to bury my loss.
The grief.
The façade my shot-gun marriage has become. It is the only bright spot in an otherwise dim existence. I don’t expect to rekindle a friendship with a wildly cocky, always humorous, and sometimes demanding Navy SEAL. I’m supposed to teach him foreign languages. The job is supposed to give me purpose.
Quickly my friend ensnares me with more than just his wit and bad pronunciation.
He traps me with salvation.
Lust has a pulse—a memory. It strips inhibitions and dilutes the world around us. Love? That comes and goes. Lust is the only language capable of healing. It’s his language. I will speak it to save him. To save myself.
It’s the only choice.
*A standalone novel*

I'm struggling a little bit here because this is a book that I really wanted to like. The premise floated in the blurb - the idea that someone has experienced a tragedy and could find purpose and pull themselves back up via hard work and friendship appealed to me.

That story is here to a certain extent as we follow Kendall's journey, but for me that message got muddled into other pieces of the story. I liked Lust in Translation, but I didn't love it. The book is well written and there isn't one thing I can point my finger on, but for some reason this is a book that I just didn't connect with.

The thing that I come closest too is that I felt a bit confused reading. On one had, we are presented with the idea that Kendall is grieving and trying to decided what direction her life is supposed to go in. On the other, we have her friendship with Leo and the potential for drama. I guess I wanted Kendall to be a stronger character and take charge a bit, but instead she seemed willing to float through and let others push her one way or the other.

Ms Robinson is an author I haven't read much of and after reading Lust in Translation, I am curious about her back list. While this book and I didn't have a super strong connection, there were pieces that I liked and I want to see if I might connect to a different story more strongly.

Boss I Love To Hate ~ Mia Kayla ~ Cover Reveal

Title: Boss, I Love To Hate
Author: Mia Kayla
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 25, 2019 Cover Design: Jersey Girl Designs

Dear Mr. Brisken,

How do I hate you?
Let me count the ways.
I hate your smug, sexy millionaire face.
I hate your cocky, skirt chasing, playboy ways.
I hate working as your secretary—but, I love the pay. It almost makes dealing with you worth it.
I hate how my friends call you a BILF, when really BILK (Boss I’d like to kill) is more appropriate.
I hate that I need you to be my date for my best friend’s wedding because my ex-boyfriend, the King of Heartbreakers, and his new busty blonde girlfriend will be in attendance.
But mostly, I hate how once the charade is over, I might not hate you at all...it was so much easier when you were the Boss I Love To Hate
Mia Kayla is a New Adult/Contemporary Romance writer who lives in Illinois. She is the wife to the husband of the year and mommy to three unbelievable cute little girls who have multiplied her grey hairs.

In her free time she loves reading romance novels, jamming to boy bands, catching up on celebrity gossip and designing flowers for weddings.
Most of the time, she can be caught on the train with her nose in a book sporting a cheeky grin because the main characters finally get their happily-ever-after at the end.
She loves reading about happy endings but has more fun writing them.

Advise From a Jilted Bride ~ Piper Rayne ~ New Release and Review

What’s a girl to do after being ditched at the altar by text message?
That’s right. Text. Message.
How does she pick up the pieces and move on?
I’m no Dear Abby but here’s a little free advice…
Advice #1 – First, purge your apartment of all things him—by tossing his belongings off the balcony. Advice #2 – Do not, I repeat do not, throw anything out into the hallway because you’ll injure your hot new neighbor.
Advice #3 – When said neighbor brings over Chinese Food do not let him stay and keep you company. It’s awkward when you realize he’s your boss.
Advice #4 – Accept his offer to help you with your side business but think twice before using a date to his sister’s wedding as collateral.
Advice #5 – Investigate who your mystery neighbor really is. Don’t trust his word even if he’s the world’s best kisser.
If you listen to nothing else, pay attention to that last one. It’s the most important and will save you a lot of heartache. Xo, LOVESICK IN LAKE STARLIGHT   ADD TO GOODREADS

3.5 Stars- Worth a Reader's Time

Review Copy from Author

A book series is always an interesting thing, especially if you are reading in order. I feel like everything after the first book gets judged a little more harshly - and I have to admit I am guilty of that.
We met Brooklyn and her siblings in “One Night Stand” and “Jilted Bride” picks up shortly after in terms of timeline.
I liked both Brook and Wyatt, as they were both interesting characters with more going on than we saw at first glance. I especially enjoyed how Brook took the negative and used it as a learning opportunity and ended up spring boarding into something more.
My “complaint” about this well written and fun story is that I felt liked it leaned a bit too heavy on the previous book in terms of world building and plot line. There were several inside jokes and references to things that happened in “One Night Stand” that I am not sure would make complete sense to someone reading this as a stand-alone. There is also a heavy similarity to the key conflict/resolution. While there are enough differences that it works for both stories, I hope we see more variety in the future Bailey sibling books.
The Bailey siblings create a large secondary cast and we see a lot of them (some more than others) and there are lots of breadcrumbs regarding future or potential future story lines. I am curious to see how the series plays out and if future books will work on their own as well as this one does.
Overall, this is a fun read and I hope to see more of Austin/Holly and Brooklyn/Wyatt as we get to know the rest of the Bailey’s

Having read After Care, I was intrigued by the story behind Gage and Ivy’s relationship. In Collide, Ms Dunbar takes us back in time to see them come together.

We first meet Ivy when she is 20, but has lived more than most girls her age because of who her mother is. As much as I liked Ivy, she almost made me a little sad because she is the embodiment of young women looking for validation in the wrong place. Her first interaction with Gage is an example of this.

Fast forward 2 years and we get to know Gage better when he and Ivy are in each other’s orbit for a couple of weeks. I liked Gage and Ivy together, in especially liked how Gage seemed to know what she needed and worked to show her, even when it meant battling the past.

Reading Collide made me want to know more about Gage’s band members, Jared and Petty. Hopefully they will have stories soon!
