An Ex for Christmas by Lauren Layne ~ New Release and Review

She’s making a list—and checking it twice. But is there a nice guy among all her naughty exes? The New York Times bestselling author of Blurred Lines returns with a charming friends-to-lovers rom-com.

When a psychic tells spunky, superstitious Kelly Byrne that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas. Kelly immediately writes up an “Ex List” and starts contacting old boyfriends to figure out which one is the one. When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. The trouble is, sparks are flying with someone she’s never given a chance: her best friend, Mark.

Mark Blakely has watched the guys on Kelly’s list break her heart, and he’s not looking forward to watching them do it all over again. Mark’s always been there for her, but the timing’s never worked out for their relationship to be something more. Now, just as Mark is ready to move on, the sexual tension between them is suddenly off the charts. With Christmas morning around the corner, he just hopes Kelly will wake up and realize that everything she wants has been right in front of her all along.

This was a cute, fun, quick read perfect for anyone who appreciates a good friends to lovers story.
Kelly and Mark have been friends since high school. They share everything, including a back yard and a dog since Kelly splits her time between living in NYC and their hometown 2 hours away. Their adventure kicks off when a fortune teller lets Kelly know that she's already met "the one" and she takes that to mean an ex-boyfriend.
Watching Kelly track down her exes with Mark in the background was interesting and frustrating. I found myself liking Kelly, but I also wanted to reach into the book and shake her for being clueless. To be honest, Kelly is the main reason this isn't a full 4 star read for me. She is a funny and interesting character, but I didn't like how she consistently put herself down nor did I think the constant comments about her weight were constructive; especially considering how she compared herself to Mark. Kelly's self doubt made it a little harder to fully buy into the concept that Mark had been secretly in love with her for so long, mainly because he is portrayed as such a string character.
I enjoyed An Ex for Christmas and loved the premise, I just would have liked to have seen a little bit of a stronger heroine with a more positive body image.
