Title: Spider Author: Ilsa Madden-Mills Publication Date: November 13th, 2017

He calls himself Spider.
I just know him as the sinfully gorgeous guy with eyes of fire that fate places next to me on the airplane.
I didn’t who he really was . . . future rock star . . . my stepbrother.
He kissed me because he thought he’d never see me again. He would.
Everyone warned me about him.
They told me he was careless and ruthless and screwed up.
They said he’d leave me with a hole in my heart.
Maybe I should have listened.
Maybe I should have built a fortress to keep him out.
But I crumbled instead.
They say an unbreakable thread connects those who are destined to meet. If that’s true, then the moment he sat next to me, we were bound together forever.
He just had to figure it out before it’s too late…

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills writes about strong heroines and sexy alpha males that sometimes you just want to slap. She's addicted to dystopian books and all things fantasy, including unicorns and sword-wielding females. Other fascinations include frothy coffee beverages, dark chocolate, Instagram, Ian Somerhalder (seriously hot), astronomy (she's a Gemini), and tattoos. She has a degree in English and a Master's in Education. When she's not pecking away on her computer, she shops for cool magnets and paints old furniture. Ilsa Logo.jpg

Oh the power of love!
Rose and Spider cross paths briefly when she is 11 and he is 16 when their lives could not have been more different. They did not know that they will meet again and play a key roll in each other's lives.
The story that follows after they reconnect sends the reader on a bit of a roller coaster as only very young love (17 and 22) can. Ms. Madden-Mills made me ache for Rose as she navigated her changing relationship with her adoptive mother, high school angst, post high school plans, and her brief dalliance with Spider. I was impressed with how much I could feel for both characters in just about half the book.
The second half of the story, the story of Spider's redemption made it impossible not to fall a little bit in love with him. I rooted for him, I rooted for Rose, and hoped they'd find the missing pieces they were both looking for.
One of the things I appreciated most about Spider is that while it was a story of young love, we also so other relationships evolve. Spider and his father in particular which showed us just how much the characters grew into being people we could really cheer for.
This was a fairly quick read, but definitely a good one!
