Midge Everette.
I'm forty-one today.
It's my birthday,
And I'm crying over burnt toast.
That's not some euphemism.
Literally, I'm sobbing over stupid bread,
so I call a crisis center.
I just need someone to talk to about life.
Only I recognize the smoky voice of the man on the line.
In the name of all things, don't let it be...
Hank Paige.
As a former rock star,
I once had it all.
Fame. Fortune. Females.
Except for the one thing I wanted most.
Now, I fix cars and restore other people's dreams.
I just want to be somebody's someone.
And there's a certain woman with captivating eyes,
I want to fulfill my dreams.
For the love of all things, please let it be her...
In the midst of questioning everything,
could love be the resolution to a midlife crisis?
+ o +
If you loved Tommy Carrigan in After Care meet his best friend and former drummer, Hank, as he discovers romance in his forties.
Book 2 of the silver fox, former rock stars can be read as a standalone.

Midlife CrisisElizabeth's Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars - would Recommend to a Friend

Ms. Dunbar has mastered the art of giving women over 40 a second chance at love.
Both After Care and Midlife Crisis feature heroines who are divorcees that have just turned 40. Midlife Crisis' hero is Hank, a former band mate of Tommy (the hero from After Care).
By now you are probably wondering why I keep mentioning a book that I am not reviewing - the answer to that is the Midlife Crisis is very connected to After Care and while it is an independent book, reading them in order will help significantly with the back story of secondary characters that directly impact the featured players.
I found Midge a character that was incredibly easy to connect to, probably because I read this on the eve of my own milestone birthday. It was very easy to put myself in her shoes and root for her to find her way to being "somebody's someone"
Where Midge is a very straight forward character, Hank is more complex and brings a great deal of baggage to the situation. I found it impressive that Ms. Dunbar was able to craft such a vulnerable hero inside a very Alpha package.
For me, this was very much the "fantasy" book for the over 40 set. Single, Divorced, or Married - I think a lot of women would be hoping for the sex life Midge and Hank have! Midlife Crisis is a well crafted story focused on putting ghosts in the past and building a new life. This came close to being a 5 star read for me, but there were a couple of personal preference things that rubbed me just a little bit the wrong way. Because they are preference, I'm not going to go into details because this is very much a book that I would recommend.
